Two factory-built sports cars in the available evidence are specifically adapted for unpaved driving: the Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato. Both add features for gravel, sand and rough roads, but neither is shown to outperform every vehicle off-road. They remain road-going sports cars, not substitutes for purpose-built off-roaders.
What counts as an all-terrain sports car?
For this comparison, the useful distinction is between a sports car with factory-engineered equipment for unpaved surfaces and an ordinary sports car that can merely be driven on a dirt road. The 911 Dakar and Huracán Sterrato meet the stronger standard: their manufacturers specify raised suspensions, dedicated all-terrain tires and off-road driving modes.

The available evidence supports these two models, not an eleven-car ranking. It also does not establish that either is faster, more capable or better than every other vehicle off-road. The meaningful question is what each car is equipped to do—and where its limits begin.
Porsche 911 Dakar: adjustable clearance and two off-road modes
Porsche’s 2022 launch information says the Dakar has 50 mm more ground clearance than a 911 Carrera with sports suspension. Its standard lift system can add another 30 mm. Porsche says the raised setting is available at speeds up to 170 km/h, after which the car lowers automatically. These are manufacturer specifications, not comparative test results. The Dakar uses specially developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires: 245/45 ZR 19 at the front and 295/40 ZR 20 at the rear. Rallye and Offroad modes tailor the car for loose or rough surfaces. Porsche’s launch specifications list a 3.0-liter biturbo six-cylinder producing 353 kW (480 PS) and 570 Nm, with 0–100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and a 240 km/h top speed limited by the tires. Porsche announced a production limit of 2,500 examples.
The 911 Dakar’s adjustable ride height and separate off-road modes give it a broader set of rough-road tools than a standard 911. They do not make it a dedicated overlanding vehicle or establish performance superiority over off-road-focused vehicles.

Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato: a raised supercar with Rally mode
Lamborghini specifies that the Sterrato’s suspension is 44 mm higher than the Huracán EVO 4WD’s. Its listed equipment includes front underbody protection, reinforced sills, Rally mode and specially developed Bridgestone Dueler AT002 tires. Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato specifications.
Lamborghini lists the 5.2-liter V10 at 610 CV (449 kW) and 560 Nm, with 0–100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and a 260 km/h top speed. These are manufacturer figures, not independent test results. Equipment and availability may vary by market.

The Sterrato brings a supercar’s performance to roads beyond smooth asphalt, but its raised suspension and protective features have limits. It is not evidence that a low-slung sports car can match a vehicle designed for sustained travel over difficult terrain.
How the two cars differ on rough ground
MotorTrend’s August 21, 2024 comparison reported 6.4 inches of ground clearance for the Sterrato and 6.3–7.5 inches for the Dakar in the tested comparison. Those are the publication’s reported measurements and configurations, not universal figures for every car or setup. MotorTrend also described the Dakar as having height-adjustable hydraulic suspension and separate Rallye and Off-Road modes; the Sterrato has one Rally mode and no low-speed crawl mode. In its drive evaluation, MotorTrend said the Sterrato was less suited to overlanding and that deeper ruts exposed limits in its suspension and underbody protection. That is the publication’s assessment from its comparison, not a general test of every off-road condition. Taken together, the evidence points to different emphases: the Dakar offers adjustable height and two named off-road modes, while the Sterrato pairs a raised setup and protective features with a single Rally mode.
Which one makes sense for your driving?
- Choose the 911 Dakar if adjustable ride height and distinct Rallye and Offroad modes matter for the loose or rough roads you expect to drive. Its published tire-limited top speed is 240 km/h.
- Consider the Huracán Sterrato if you want a V10 sports car with factory all-terrain tires, added ride height and underbody and sill protection for driving beyond asphalt. Its manufacturer-listed top speed is 260 km/h.
- Look beyond both if your plans involve deep ruts, extended overlanding or terrain that demands equipment neither manufacturer describes as the car’s purpose. MotorTrend’s comparison specifically notes the Sterrato’s limits as ruts deepen.
Factory tire names and sizes identify what each car was developed with; they do not establish that the tires are interchangeable. For any replacement, confirm exact vehicle fitment, ratings and approvals rather than relying on a model name alone.
