One July 2025 Reddit post recounts an imported Pixel 8 Pro with connectivity and heating complaints before it began boot-looping. The motherboard diagnosis and repair cost are the poster’s account, not independently verified findings. A separate 2026 discussion contains users’ broad descriptions of “poor quality,” battery problems, and connectivity failures, alongside replies from people reporting no major problems. Pixel 7a: possible battery swelling
Google’s Pixel 7a Extended Repair Program page, dated April 23, 2025, says: “Google has determined that certain Pixel 7a phones may experience unexpected battery swelling.” Google lists visible swelling, a bulging or separating cover, unusually rapid battery drain, and charging failure as possible symptoms. The page states a three-year coverage period measured from the original retail purchase. Owners should check Google’s current eligibility and available remedies rather than assume a device qualifies.

Google’s Pixel 6a Battery Performance Program page, dated July 2, 2025, describes a separate matter. For impacted devices, an update adds battery-management features intended to reduce potential overheating risk. Those features can reduce battery capacity and charging performance after 400 charge cycles. That threshold is when the features activate on impacted devices; it is not a failure rate or a measure of how many phones are affected. How to assess a problem on your own Pixel
Reports from other owners can help describe symptoms, but they cannot establish the cause or predict whether Google will offer a remedy. For a practical next step, identify the phone and symptom first, then check the applicable official support terms.
- Confirm the exact model. Distinguish, for example, a Pixel 6a from a Pixel 7a; the documented battery matters above apply to different models and are not interchangeable.
- Record what is happening. Note whether the concern is visible swelling or a separating cover, rapid drain, charging failure, overheating, weak connectivity, or failure to boot. Do not treat different symptoms as evidence of one cause.
- Check the official page for that model. Review current eligibility, regional availability, program status, inspection requirements, and available support options. A reported symptom alone does not establish eligibility.
- Keep purchase and repair details. The Pixel 7a program’s stated coverage period runs from original retail purchase, and device condition and program terms may affect the outcome. Keep proof of purchase and any prior repair records when contacting support.
Why the author’s device history matters
A first-person account about lost trust needs the author’s actual timeline: model names, dates, repeated symptoms, troubleshooting, repairs, and what happened afterward. Without those details, public reports can supply context but cannot explain the author’s experience.
