John M. Wilson, who spent six years leading global data-center design and construction at Google, has joined Anthropic as a member of technical staff leading EMEA capacity delivery, according to a Data Center Dynamics report published October 5, 2026. His appointment adds an experienced infrastructure-delivery leader to Anthropic’s growing data-center organization.

Wilson’s role at Anthropic

Wilson’s reported remit is to lead capacity delivery in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Data Center Dynamics describes his formal position as member of technical staff. The report does not detail the scope of his authority, specific projects, or a start date beyond reporting that he joined Anthropic.

His infrastructure and leadership background

Before joining Anthropic, Wilson spent six years at Google as head of global data-center design and construction. Data Center Dynamics says his work there also included delivery of data-center and subsea infrastructure. Earlier, he was Amazon’s European head of design and construction.

His previous roles also included chief of staff at the British Army and director of infrastructure at NATO, according to the report. The positions span large-scale technology infrastructure and public-sector organizations, but Anthropic has not stated that this background explains its hiring decision.

What Wilson said about the move

Data Center Dynamics attributed Wilson’s comments to LinkedIn. Reflecting on his infrastructure work, he said: “Leading global infrastructure delivery across data centers and subsea programs taught me two enduring truths. Scale is humbling, but high-trust teams make the extraordinary feel routine. Clear intent, rigorous operational control, and calm execution will always beat complexity.”

On joining Anthropic, Wilson added: “The stakes and scale have never been higher, and I’m eager to get stuck in.”

How the appointment fits Anthropic’s infrastructure push

Wilson is one of several former Google employees whom Data Center Dynamics identified in Anthropic infrastructure roles in its October 5, 2026 report. The examples included Winnie Leung, head of data-center infrastructure; Liwen Mao, data-center design lead; and Adam Johnson, data-center electrical lead. The report also described former Google staff in construction, operations, security, energy, capacity delivery, and compute finance. These roles are a snapshot from that report, not a complete or necessarily current staff list.

Separately, Anthropic announced in November 2025 that it planned to invest $50 billion in American computing infrastructure. The company said data centers developed with Fluidstack were planned in Texas and New York, with additional sites to follow. Anthropic estimated the project would create approximately 800 permanent jobs and 2,400 construction jobs, and said sites were expected to come online throughout 2026. Those figures and the schedule were company projections; they are not independently audited outcomes or confirmation of completed construction.

Anthropic’s announced US plans provide context for its infrastructure ambitions, but they do not establish Wilson’s responsibilities outside EMEA or show how his appointment will affect those projects.
