If you want an AI agent for research, browser tasks, office actions, or file work rather than coding, the best alternative depends on where the work happens. Start with ChatGPT agent for browser and connected-app actions, Claude Research for web research that also uses work context, and Claude Cowork for cross-app tasks centered on files. Antigravity remains worth considering when you want scheduled agents, customizable skills, Google integrations, or development tools.
What Antigravity does—and why the distinction matters
Google now describes Antigravity 2.0 as an agent command center: it can orchestrate multiple autonomous agents across independent projects and offers scheduled tasks, customizable skills, project grouping, and deliverable artifacts. Its current documentation distinguishes a desktop command-center experience from CLI, SDK, and IDE surfaces. The IDE is still framed as an AI-powered developer environment, so “alternative to Antigravity” can mean either a replacement for its coding IDE or another way to get agent help with non-coding work.
Google’s November 18, 2025 launch announcement described browser control, asynchronous work, and task artifacts such as plans, screenshots, walkthroughs, and browser recordings; it also gave background research as an example task. That shows Antigravity can be applied beyond software development, but does not establish that it is optimized for general knowledge work. Google’s Antigravity Team called trust, autonomy, feedback, and self-improvement four tenets of collaborative development—Google’s own product framing, not an independent assessment. Which alternative fits your workflow?
| Product | Best fit | What the cited product information describes | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT agent | Browser tasks and connected-app actions | Web research and actions using a virtual computer with visual and text browsers, terminal, APIs, and connectors; examples include updating spreadsheets, interacting with websites, planning tasks, and scheduling recurring work. | Whether the needed connectors, plan, region, and controls are available for your account and task. |
| Claude Research | Research across the web and work context | Anthropic describes searches across web and internal work context with citations, plus Google Workspace integration for Gmail, Calendar, and Docs. | Current plan and regional availability; the cited announcement’s early-beta details are dated. |
| Claude Cowork | Cross-app knowledge work involving files | Anthropic positions Cowork in the Claude desktop app for work with files and multiple tools. Its illustrative example compares vendor PDFs by price and service-level agreements and records findings in a spreadsheet. | Whether its supported tools and file access fit your specific workflow and security requirements. |
| Google Antigravity 2.0 | Scheduled, multi-agent work or development-centered workflows | Google describes a command center for parallel agents, scheduled tasks, skills, and artifacts; its IDE remains developer-focused. | Which surface—desktop, CLI, SDK, or IDE—you need, and the current access and operating-system details. |
ChatGPT agent: choose it for browser and connected-app work
ChatGPT agent is the clearest fit when a task moves between web pages and connected services—for example, gathering information and then updating a spreadsheet or taking an action in a website. OpenAI says users can steer or interrupt work in progress. Those capabilities and examples come from OpenAI; they are not a comparative test against Antigravity.
#1 Best Overall
OpenAI also reported that ChatGPT agent’s output was comparable to or better than human output in roughly half of cases on its internal benchmark of complex, economically valuable knowledge-work tasks. This is a vendor-reported 2025 result for that benchmark, not a head-to-head comparison with Antigravity or a claim about every task. OpenAI’s ChatGPT agent announcement
Claude Research: choose it for research that needs work context
Anthropic describes Research as searching both the web and internal work context and providing citations. Its announcement also describes Google Workspace integration with Gmail, Calendar, and Docs. That combination may suit a question requiring both public information and relevant work materials.
Rank #2
The April 15, 2025 announcement described Research as an early beta for Max, Team, and Enterprise users in the United States, Japan, and Brazil. Those are historical rollout details, not dependable guidance on current access. Check Anthropic’s current plan and regional information before deciding. Anthropic’s Research announcement
Claude Cowork: choose it for file-centered work across tools
Cowork is the closest match among these options when the work begins with files and spans multiple apps. Anthropic’s product matrix identifies analysts, product managers, operators, and researchers as target users and describes Cowork as running in the Claude desktop app. Its vendor example—comparing vendor PDFs for price and service-level agreements, then putting the results in a spreadsheet—illustrates the intended kind of task; it is not an independently verified performance result. Before switching, map the real task rather than comparing product names. The relevant differences are the work surface, the kind of task, the context the agent can reach, the controls available while it works, and whether you can access the product under your current requirements.
- Work surface: Decide whether the task lives in a browser, connected apps, desktop files, CLI, SDK, or coding IDE.
- Main task: Identify whether you need web research, office actions, file synthesis, recurring monitoring, or software development.
- Context and integrations: Confirm which accounts, documents, and services can be connected for this particular task.
- Control and verification: Check how the product shows progress and artifacts, handles permissions, allows intervention, and lets you verify the result.
- Access and governance: Verify current supported regions, plans, operating systems, quotas, and enterprise controls. The cited sources do not provide a single harmonized, up-to-date matrix across all four products.
As a practical starting point, try ChatGPT agent for work centered on browser interfaces or connected-app actions; look at Claude Research when web findings need to be combined with work context; and consider Cowork for file-centered tasks spanning tools. Keep Antigravity in consideration when scheduled agents, customizable skills, Google integrations, or development work matter. These are workflow matches, not a universal ranking, and the available product descriptions do not establish comparative quality.
