For a typical U.S. .com buyer, Namecheap has the lower renewal price in the cited comparison: $18.48 versus GoDaddy’s $22.99. GoDaddy’s advertised $0.01 first-year .com offer was dated May 20, 2026, and required a three-year total purchase. These are vendor-published examples, not guaranteed current quotes; compare the full checkout cost and renewal price for your domain before choosing.
How the .com prices compare
The figures below are U.S.-dollar examples from different vendor sources: Namecheap’s live pricing table accessed October 7, 2026, and GoDaddy’s article dated May 20, 2026. They are not a like-for-like quote for every buyer or a promise of current pricing.

Which registrar is cheaper over time?
Namecheap for the cited renewal comparison
In these examples, Namecheap’s .com renewal is $4.51 lower than GoDaddy’s cited renewal. That makes Namecheap the stronger choice if your priority is the displayed renewal comparison and its current price and privacy eligibility suit your domain. The figures differ in source date, so check the current checkout rather than treating the difference as a fixed market-wide gap.

GoDaddy when the full offer makes sense
The $0.01 first-year price is not a standalone one-year deal in the cited article: it requires a three-year total purchase. Calculate the total amount due for the required term, then compare the renewal rate that would apply afterward. A very low opening price does not establish the lowest long-term cost.
GoDaddy’s registration agreement says renewal generally uses the non-sale list price shown during search and checkout, and that the rate may change before the renewal date. Automatic renewal is the default. The cited agreement opened with an en-AE market parameter, so review the agreement and price terms applicable to your own market. GoDaddy’s registration agreement sets out those mechanics.
Privacy, support, and bundled services
Check privacy for your exact extension
Namecheap offers free domain privacy on eligible domains, but registry rules restrict it for some TLDs. GoDaddy’s May 2026 comparison describes free privacy with registrations. Neither broad description guarantees identical coverage for every extension; check the selected TLD and the details shown at checkout.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSupport claims are not quality ratings
Both vendors describe round-the-clock support, and Namecheap also describes transfer concierge assistance. Those vendor statements identify stated availability and channels; they do not show which company resolves problems faster or more effectively.

Keep domain cost separate from a service bundle
GoDaddy’s comparison article lists hosting, email, website tools, and other online services. Consider that breadth if you want to manage related services in one place, but compare bundle prices separately from the domain’s registration and renewal cost. The reviewed evidence establishes Namecheap’s domain and related digital services, but does not provide a directly comparable bundle price.
How to choose for your situation
- Choose Namecheap when the current quote remains attractive, you value the lower renewal in the cited .com examples, and your TLD qualifies for its included privacy.
- Consider GoDaddy when its current checkout offer is favorable after accounting for the required term and renewal, or its broader service bundle fits your needs.
- For a domain you already own at GoDaddy, weigh the transfer price, eligibility, added registration year when applicable, and the renewal term against the convenience of leaving the domain where it is.
How to transfer a domain from GoDaddy to Namecheap
Namecheap’s guidance for moving a domain from GoDaddy is: “Unlock the domain in your GoDaddy account, then turn off Domain Protection if it’s on. Request the code (also known as an EPP code or transfer key).” Confirm the instructions and requirements for your TLD before starting. Namecheap’s transfer information gives the vendor’s current steps and eligibility details.
Rank #4
- Check eligibility. Namecheap’s general gTLD rules require that a domain has been registered or transferred at least 60 days earlier. TLD-specific rules may differ, so verify them before initiating.
- Prepare the domain at GoDaddy. Unlock it, turn off Domain Protection if enabled, and request the authorization code, also called an EPP code or transfer key.
- Start the transfer with Namecheap. Follow its transfer flow for the extension and provide the authorization code when requested. Check the displayed transfer price and any renewal time added.
- Allow time for completion. Namecheap estimates that most GoDaddy-to-Namecheap transfers finish in five to seven days; this is not a guarantee.
Namecheap says an applicable transfer adds a free year. Confirm whether that applies to your domain and how the resulting registration term and renewal date will work before submitting the transfer.
