Sucker Punch’s patch history documents several performance and crash fixes, but the notes do not identify the cause of every individual fault or guarantee that every issue is resolved.
Start by updating the game
Check the installed game version on your PS5 and install any update available for Ghost of Yōtei. For version-specific changes, consult Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yōtei patch history.

The September 30, 2025 Day 1 update documented improvements to environmental rendering performance, Ray Tracing Mode lighting consistency and performance, photo-mode performance and stability, and missions with high character counts. It also addressed uncommon crashes during extended play or idle periods and rare crashes when loading certain saves. These notes describe issues targeted by that update; they do not establish that a similar symptom on your console has the same cause.

Sucker Punch’s support page listed version 1.602 as the latest patch when checked on October 3, 2026. Its April 24, 2026 notes say, “Various rare crash fixes.” That general statement is not a promise that all crashes have been fixed.

Match the troubleshooting to the symptom
The game will not launch
Install available game updates, then try launching again. If it still fails, note whether the failure occurs before the title screen, while loading a save, or at another point. Record any error code rather than guessing at a fix.
The game crashes or freezes during play
Update first, then note when the crash occurs: for example, after extended play, while idle, during a particular mission, or while loading a specific save. The Day 1 notes addressed some uncommon crashes in extended or idle sessions and rare save-loading crashes, while the latest listed patch includes general rare-crash fixes. Those release notes do not identify the cause of a new or recurring crash.

Performance problems in a ray-tracing mode
Check that the game is current. Sucker Punch’s October 17, 2025 patch 1.010 notes specifically say that a rare crash that could happen with ray tracing enabled was fixed. That fix applies to the described crash, not necessarily to every performance problem or crash associated with ray tracing.
The Day 1 update also included work on Ray Tracing Mode lighting consistency and performance. If the issue persists, note the selected display or ray-tracing mode when contacting support; the available patch notes do not establish that PS5 Pro owners or ray-tracing users are generally affected.

Gather details before contacting support
If updating does not resolve the issue, these details can help describe the problem clearly:
- Your PS5 model, if known: standard PS5, PS5 Slim, or PS5 Pro.
- The game version installed on the console.
- The exact error code, if one appears.
- Whether the game fails at launch or crashes or freezes during play, and what was happening immediately beforehand.
- The selected display or ray-tracing mode, if relevant.
- Whether the issue follows one save or also occurs with other saves.
These are useful diagnostic details to report, not a claim that any one setting or console model causes the problem. If the fault continues after updating, use PlayStation’s official game support contact route.

What not to assume
Ghost of Yōtei is a PS5 exclusive with PS5 Pro support; Sony does not list PS4 or PC as supported platforms. Instructions for PC graphics settings therefore do not apply to this game’s supported release.

Patch notes identify categories of fixes, not the cause of an individual console’s problem, and official materials reviewed do not publish crash-rate or performance benchmark statistics. Do not treat player comments as proof of how often a fault occurs. Avoid deleting saved data or reinstalling the game as a universal remedy: the official game materials reviewed do not establish either as a guaranteed fix, and deleting a save can risk progress.
