A “GetStringBetween” error has no single universal fix: the method name is used by more than one API, and the right diagnosis depends on the host and its matching settings. If your workflow uses Microsoft’s IA-Connect Dynamic Code connector, first verify the input and boundary strings, then check line-by-line search, matching mode, and how the action handles a missing result.
First identify which GetStringBetween you are using
Microsoft documents a GetStringBetween operation in its IA-Connect Dynamic Code connector. A separate StringExtensions API reference uses the same method name and shows a different signature, including an optional startFrom parameter. The shared name does not establish shared behavior.

Check the action, connector, library, or programming environment shown where the error occurs. The checks below apply to Microsoft’s documented connector operation. If your implementation is different, use that implementation’s own parameter list and error contract rather than assuming these settings exist.

The operation returns the first instance of text between two specified strings, or between a start string and the end of a line. Its inputs include the source string, start and end search strings, line-by-line search, whether to throw when no match is found, trimming, regular-expression matching, and case sensitivity. The end search string may be blank to search to the end of the line.

The documented outputs are a Search string found boolean and a String between value. When throwing on a missing match is disabled, the found output indicates whether a match was found; check it before using the extracted value.
Troubleshoot the Microsoft action in this order

Inspect the runtime input
Verify the actual string reaching the action, not just the value you expect it to receive. Check for missing text, unexpected line breaks, or surrounding characters that could change where the boundaries occur.

Verify the start and end boundaries
Confirm that the start search string appears in the input and that the intended end string occurs after it. If the end string is blank intentionally, the documented behavior is to search through the end of the line.

Check whether the boundaries cross a line break
With line-by-line search enabled, matching is confined to the current line. If the start and end strings are on different lines, check whether that option fits the input you are processing.

Confirm literal or regular-expression matching
Check whether the search strings should be treated as ordinary text or as regular expressions. A string intended literally may not behave as expected when interpreted as a pattern.

Check case sensitivity
If capitalization differs between the configured boundary and the input, verify whether case-sensitive search is enabled. Choose the setting that matches the actual text.

Decide how a missing match should be handled
If the throw-on-not-found option is enabled, a missing match raises an exception. If it is disabled, use the found boolean to decide whether it is safe to use the extracted string.

Treat trimming as output cleanup
The trim option removes spaces or tabs around the result. It does not make an absent start or end boundary match, so investigate matching first when the operation finds nothing.

Why there is no universal error message or fix
Microsoft’s connector reference documents the operation’s controls and outputs, but does not provide a catalog of runtime error strings or version-specific defects. The title alone cannot identify a root cause: the particular error text, host application, connector release, and input would be needed for a narrower diagnosis.
The Microsoft reference was accessed on October 7, 2026; connector documentation can change, so consult the current connector reference if its available fields differ from those in your workflow.
