To enable a laptop’s built-in touchpad in Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad and switch Touchpad on. If the setting is missing or the pointer still does not move, check for a model-specific touchpad key and then troubleshoot the driver.
Where is the touchpad setting in Windows 11?
- Open Start > Settings. If using the pointer is difficult, press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
- Switch the Touchpad control on. The precise wording or layout can vary slightly by Windows build and laptop.

What key turns the touchpad on?
Some laptops have a touchpad button or a keyboard combination that disables and re-enables the device. Look along the function-key row for a touchpad symbol, or check the laptop’s instructions for its specific shortcut. There is no universal key combination: support and key assignments depend on the laptop model. Microsoft describes these controls as device-dependent in its touchpad toggle-button guidance.

Why is my touchpad missing from Settings or still not working?
If the Touchpad page is absent, or switching the control on does not restore pointer movement, enabling the setting may not be enough. A missing or outdated driver is one possible cause; a hardware fault is another possibility, but the cause cannot be determined without diagnosing the particular laptop.

Check for a driver update
Microsoft recommends using Windows Update as the preferred way to update touchpad drivers. If needed, Device Manager is another documented route. Follow Microsoft’s touchpad troubleshooting steps for the update process. If the issue continues, consult the laptop manufacturer’s support information for the exact model rather than installing a driver intended for a different device.
How to adjust touchpad gestures after it works
