1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYour iPad can use Wi-Fi while Airplane Mode stays on: turn Airplane Mode on, then turn Wi-Fi back on, provided the airline permits it. If the iPad joins an airport, hotel, or aircraft network but still cannot get online, it may need you to complete that network’s welcome or sign-in page. A Wi-Fi icon confirms a network connection, not necessarily internet access.
First, turn Wi-Fi back on without turning off Airplane Mode
Airplane Mode initially disables Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular connections. You can re-enable Wi-Fi while leaving Airplane Mode on; follow the airline’s rules about wireless use. Apple explains the behavior in its iPad travel settings guide.

- Turn on Airplane Mode from Control Center or in Settings.
- Turn Wi-Fi on from Control Center or go to Settings > Wi-Fi and switch it on.
- If Wi-Fi remains unavailable or its control is greyed out, restart the iPad and check again.
Join the right network in Settings
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi, confirm Wi-Fi is on, and tap the exact network name provided by the airline or venue. A blue checkmark beside the network and the Wi-Fi icon indicate the iPad has joined that Wi-Fi network. They do not confirm that internet access has been authorized. See Apple’s steps for connecting to Wi-Fi.
If the network is hidden, tap Other and enter its network name, security type, and password. If the network name is missing or you cannot join, check with the network provider that you have the correct network and access details.

Complete the network’s welcome or login page
Public Wi-Fi at airports, hotels, cafés, and on some aircraft may require a captive-portal sign-in. After you select the network, wait for its welcome page. Follow the prompts to enter the requested details or accept the terms. Access fees may apply, and the network provider controls availability and charges.
If no page appears, go to Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the More Info button beside the network, and choose Join Network if that option is available. Apple’s captive Wi-Fi guidance also explains these options when a welcome screen was dismissed:

For a network you have used before, check its More Info settings. Auto-Join controls whether the iPad connects to that network automatically. Auto-Login is separate: turning it off can make the welcome screen appear again when reconnecting to a captive network.

- The network is absent: Confirm you are looking for the correct network name and ask the venue or airline whether its Wi-Fi is available.
- The iPad will not join: Check that you selected the correct network and entered any required password. Try another Wi-Fi network if one is available.
- The iPad is joined, but pages will not load: Look for a captive-portal sign-in or a “No Internet Connection” message. The network may not have granted internet access, or it may be having a service problem.
- The welcome page is waiting for action: Complete its login or terms step; joining Wi-Fi alone may not be enough.
To separate an iPad problem from a network problem, test another device on the same Wi-Fi and test the iPad on a different Wi-Fi network. If other devices also fail on the venue network, contact the provider or network administrator. If the iPad cannot connect to any Wi-Fi network, Apple recommends contacting Apple after basic troubleshooting.

Check the iPad and the network
Make sure Wi-Fi is on. Airplane Mode can remain on if you have turned Wi-Fi back on separately. If the iPad reports no internet, check whether the network itself is operating; on a network you administer, verify that the router is on and in range, update its firmware, try another supported frequency band if available, and restart the router and modem. For a school or workplace network, consult IT before changing its configuration.

Check VPN or security software as a diagnostic step
Apple advises temporarily uninstalling VPN or security software, restarting the iPad, and testing the connection. If the connection then works, contact the software provider or VPN administrator about a supported configuration. Do not leave protections removed unless you understand the implications and have another safe configuration.
Reset network settings only if other steps fail
Reset Network Settings removes saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords, along with mobile, VPN, and APN settings. On a managed school or business iPad, ask IT before proceeding. Otherwise, the path is Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Apple lists this as a later troubleshooting step in its Wi-Fi connection guide.
When venue Wi-Fi is unavailable, consider cellular data
Cellular data is an option only for a Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad model with an active service and coverage. Apple also describes Connectivity Assist, which can use cellular data with Wi-Fi in some weak, busy, or no-internet situations. Availability depends on the model, service, settings, and location. Cellular is an alternative connection path, not a way to complete a captive-portal login or repair the venue’s Wi-Fi. See Apple’s guide to connecting iPad to the internet.
