Gears of War: E-Day PC System Requirements and Upgrade Guide

Gears of War: E-Day’s final PC targets span 1080p Medium to 4K Ultra. Compare the GPU, ray tracing, CPU, memory and SSD requirements before upgrading.

To play Gears of War: E-Day on PC, you need a graphics card with hardware ray tracing support, an SSD with 115 GB of space, and a system that meets the target you want. The final PC targets range from 1080p at 60 fps on Medium to 4K at 60+ fps on Ultra. Check your GPU, CPU, memory and storage against that goal before buying an upgrade; the minimum tier is not a recommendation for 4K.

Final PC requirements at a glance

The Coalition’s final PC requirements were published in September 2026. The table below transcribes the full specification reported by PC Gamer on October 1, 2026; Xbox Wire confirmed the final specifications were published, but presents the table as an image. Frame-rate figures are targets using an upscaling option—DLSS, FSR, TSR or XeSS—not a guarantee for every scene or PC configuration.

Target tier Preset and resolution target GPU examples CPU examples VRAM System RAM Storage
Minimum Medium, 1080p at 60 fps NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 or RTX 2060; AMD Radeon RX 6600 or RX 9060 AMD Ryzen 5 2600X; Intel Core i7-6850K or Core i5-10400 6 GB 12 GB 115 GB SSD
Recommended High, 1440p at 60+ fps NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 or RTX 3060 Ti; AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or RX 9060 XT AMD Ryzen 5 5600; Intel Core i5-11600K 8 GB 16 GB 115 GB SSD
Ultra Ultra, 4K at 60+ fps NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti; AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D; Intel Core i7-14700K 12 GB 16 GB 115 GB SSD

There is an important condition across all three tiers: the final specification requires a graphics card capable of hardware ray tracing. A card without dedicated hardware ray-tracing support is not supported, even if its performance in older games appears adequate.

How to decide what to upgrade

Start with the resolution and preset you actually plan to use, then compare each component to that tier. Requirements identify targets, not a requirement to replace every older part in a working PC.

  1. Choose a target. Use the minimum tier as the reference for Medium at 1080p, recommended for High at 1440p, or Ultra for 4K Ultra. The Ultra GPU class is substantially higher than the minimum class.
  2. Verify ray tracing support. Confirm your graphics card has dedicated hardware ray-tracing support before weighing its speed against the examples in the table.
  3. Compare the GPU and VRAM. If your card is below the relevant target, a GPU upgrade may be the part that matters. Check your power supply, case clearance, CPU compatibility and budget before choosing a replacement. Upscaling can help tune performance, but it does not remove the support requirement.
  4. Check the CPU and system RAM. The minimum lists 12 GB of RAM; recommended and Ultra list 16 GB. Match the CPU class to your target, but do not replace a CPU or memory kit solely because it is older if your PC meets the chosen tier and performs acceptably.
  5. Check SSD capacity. The listed requirement is 115 GB on an SSD. If you do not have enough available space, additional suitable SSD capacity may be needed. The specification does not require NVMe, SATA, internal or external storage; check what your PC supports before purchasing.

Upscaling, DirectX 12 and shader delivery

Xbox Wire says E-Day is built on Unreal Engine 5 and DirectX 12. The PC feature list includes NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR, Unreal Engine TSR and Intel XeSS, alongside NVIDIA Reflex and Advanced Shader Delivery on compatible systems. These are not interchangeable settings: which options are available and how they affect image quality or frame rate depends on the hardware and configuration. The performance targets in the requirements use an upscaling option.

Xbox says Advanced Shader Delivery precompiles shaders for compatible systems and can reduce loading times and first-run shader stutter. It does not publish a numeric reduction, so treat this as a potential benefit rather than a promised improvement.

What the published requirements do—and do not—tell you

Requirements are useful compatibility and performance targets, not a promise of stable frame rates in every level or workload. Tom’s Hardware tested 25 CPUs in its own review setup and reported high CPU utilization. Its tests found that Low Core Mode reduced performance across the tested CPU pool, with distinct behavior in a two-core configuration. Those findings are setup-specific and do not replace the official target tiers.

Do not use the earlier beta table as the launch specification. The official beta FAQ explicitly described its PC figures as beta recommendations and said final requirements would follow. Its HDD warning was also beta-specific; the final launch requirement is 115 GB on an SSD.

Platform and launch details

As of October 4, 2026, Xbox lists the game for Xbox Series X|S and Windows 10/11, with a global release date of October 6, 2026. It lists PC Game Pass at launch and Steam as a platform/storefront. Xbox Play Anywhere supports playing across Xbox Series X|S and PC with shared progression and achievements. The Xbox page’s 4K/60 fps statement refers to console performance, not the PC Ultra tier. Two-player split-screen is console-only; online co-op supports up to four players. See the Xbox game listing for platform details.
