The October 5, 2026 Gears of War: E-Day update targets stability and performance, online services, campaign progression and objectives, Horde Siege, Versus, and the user interface. Its notes focus on specific fixes ahead of global release; the broader weapon, mode, and quality-of-life tuning announced on September 30 is a separate update.
What changed in the October 5 update?
The publisher described the patch as “various stability, performance, hardware compatibility, and reporting improvements across the game.” The official October 5 patch notes list fixes across these areas:

- Stability and compatibility: General stability, performance, hardware compatibility, and reporting improvements.
- Online and multiplayer services: Fixes for Versus Social matches stuck on the “Waiting for players” screen, Xbox authentication when the system clock is substantially wrong, online-session stability when accessing session information, and a split-screen sign-out issue in “Bilefrog-Kalona” after suspending and resuming the game.
- Campaign: Progression and reward corrections, turret behavior during transitions, and fixes for specific mission objectives in Acts 2 and 4.
- Horde Siege and Versus: Fixes for Blitz Secure objectives, a missing extraction helicopter in Plaza Ruins Blitz, and a bomb-defusing state in Demolition.

Campaign progression and objective fixes
Joining a campaign and earning progress
Players joining an existing campaign should no longer receive War Journal progress or Forge rewards earned before they joined. The patch also addresses expected Forge Discovery War Journal progress for players who join a campaign already in progress.
Act 2: Allfather’s Plaza and Black Raven Down
In Act 2 Chapter 2, an objective at Allfather’s Plaza could fail to update. The notes also address a Heavy Gear appearing without a Vulcan in the Black Raven Down side objective.

- MULTIPLAYER EVOLVED — Battle in Horde Siege for large‑scale PvE action or prove your skill in refined Versus PvP with greater precision and competitive depth.
- CLASSIC COMBAT, MODERNIZED — Experience signature cover‑based gameplay enhanced with updated movement, traversal, and controls that feel like Gears while playing like something new.
- CO‑OP YOUR WAY — Play online with up to four players across Campaign, Horde Siege, and Versus, or team up locally with 2‑player split‑screen co‑op on console.
Act 4: side objectives and Power Station defense
In Act 4 Chapter 1, side objectives could fail to start if players entered while the introductory dialogue was underway. In Act 4 Chapter 2, the patch addresses one cause of the Power Station defense objective failing to complete after visible enemies had been defeated.
Turret transitions
A player could remain attached to a turret when a cinematic or gameplay moment began. The update fixes that transition issue.

Online, Horde Siege, Versus, and UI fixes
Online services and the Bilefrog-Kalona error
The online fixes cover several different situations: Versus Social matches that remained on “Waiting for players,” Xbox authentication when the console’s system clock was substantially incorrect, and instability when opening online-session information. The split-screen “Bilefrog-Kalona” issue involved a player being signed out after the game was suspended and resumed.
Horde Siege
Some Blitz Secure objectives could not be completed, and the extraction helicopter could fail to appear during a Plaza Ruins Blitz mission. Both issues are included in the October 5 fixes.
Rank #3
- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
Versus Demolition
In Demolition, the bomb could become stuck in a defusing state if the player was eliminated while beginning the defuse interaction. The patch addresses that problem.
Interface

October 5 patch versus the September 30 update
These are two distinct official posts with different purposes. The October 5 notes address specific game issues; the September 30 Season 1: Emergence announcement describes changes made since the August multiplayer beta, along with season information and a separate launch-known-issues list.
Recommended Free Tools
| Official post | What it covers |
|---|---|
| October 5, 2026 patch notes | Stability and performance, online and multiplayer services, campaign progression and objectives, Horde Siege, Versus, and UI fixes. |
| September 30, 2026 Season 1 announcement | Broader post-beta weapon, movement, cover, Horde Siege, and Versus tuning; optimization, bug fixes, and quality-of-life settings; season schedule and launch-known issues. |
The September 30 post’s weapon examples include reduced Lancer Mk1 and Vulcan damage, increased Hammerburst damage, and more consistent Gnasher hipfire. Those are not October 5 patch changes. Likewise, an issue appearing in the September 30 known-issues list should not be treated as fixed by the October 5 patch unless it also appears in the October 5 notes.
Best Value
- 25 Years after Gears of War 3, spurred by a series of strange disappearances, JD Fenix must embrace his father’s legacy and battle a terrifying new enemy
- Never Fight Alone: Enjoy two-player co-op with friends locally via split-screen, over Xbox Live or LAN. Player 2 can select either Kait or Del
- Redefined Cover Gameplay: New close-cover combat moves and combat-knife executions turn each piece of cover into an offensive opportunity
- Brutal New Weapons: An incredible arsenal of new weapons includes the Buzzkill and Dropshot, which can shoot around and over cover, raining destruction from all angles
Known issues and Season 1 schedule in the September 30 post
The September 30 announcement—not the October 5 patch notes—says that playing the entire game without reloading checkpoints or restarting may cause memory issues. It recommends reloading a checkpoint if an encounter or objective blocks progress. Its other launch-known-issues entries concern the Benchmark-mode performance overlay, the game process potentially continuing after closing the game, campaign-lobby progress behavior, and offline PC play not being available until October 6.
The same September 30 post said Season 1: Emergence would run for eight weeks, through December 1, 2026, and that Versus Ranked was scheduled to launch October 13. Those are season schedule details as announced on September 30, not changes made by the October 5 patch.
Where to check for later patch notes
For a later update, check the publisher’s official Gears of War news page and compare the publication date and patch title. That helps distinguish a new fix list from season announcements, beta-feedback summaries, or known-issues notices.
