Where to find Gears of War: E-Day accessibility settings
Open Settings > Accessibility from the main menu or while in-game. Some related options also appear in other settings tabs. How to make enemies and combat cues easier to see
Distinguish characters with High Contrast Characters
High Contrast Characters gives characters a single-color material to improve visibility. The setting provides separate colors for Player, Squad, Ally, and Enemy, so you can choose combinations that are easy to tell apart on your display. The guide lists this feature for Campaign and Horde Siege; it does not establish that it is available in Versus.
Show imminent threats with Threat Indicators
Threat Indicators place yellow cues at the edge of the screen to show the direction of an imminent high-damage threat. A triangle marks nearby grenades or explosives. You can also enable Threat Indicator Audio and adjust its volume if a sound cue is more useful than a visual one.

Try color filters and display adjustments
Color Blind Mode offers Off, Deuteranope, Protanope, and Tritanope options, plus a Color Blind Intensity adjustment. These are filters to try and assess for yourself, not a guarantee that a particular mode will suit every player.
Brightness and Contrast are listed in the first-launch setup. Contrast changes the difference between the brightest and darkest areas of the screen. Adjust these controls for your display and room; the guide does not prescribe a universal best value.

Use audio settings for navigation and clearer information
Objective and nearby-item cues
Audio Navigation Aid provides cues toward the next objective. Audio Ping cues the nearest Supply Cache or RIG. The guide lists both for Campaign and Horde Siege, with adjustable modes and volumes.
Balance dialogue, effects, and environmental sound
The first-launch audio setup separates primary audio, music, character dialogue, and sound effects levels. It also includes an Environmental Audio toggle and an environmental-effects volume control. The guide says disabling environmental audio reduces distracting non-gameplay sounds. If you are missing spoken callouts, try adjusting dialogue separately from music and effects rather than lowering every channel together.
Chat accessibility
Text-to-Speech reads chat messages aloud, while Speech-to-Text transcribes voice chat as text. Text Chat must be enabled for either option.

How to change controller settings in Gears of War: E-Day
Choose a control scheme you already understand
The listed schemes are Default, Modern, Modern Alt, Legacy, and Legacy Alt. Modern is described as more like other modern shooters; Legacy is closest to classic Gears. Modern Alt moves Slide to B, while Legacy Alt changes some A-button actions. Start with whichever layout feels familiar, then change only what causes difficulty.

Adjust aim assistance with its behavior in mind
The Control tab lists four Aim Assist choices:
- Off: turns aim assistance off.
- Default: uses the game’s per-weapon aim-assist features.
- Snap Aim: briefly snaps the reticle to a nearby valid enemy while aiming.
- Lock-on Aiming: locks the reticle to the closest valid enemy while aiming; flicking left or right switches to another valid target when one is available.
An official Open Beta FAQ said aim assist affected Campaign and Horde Siege in the beta while Versus was unaffected. That statement is specific to the beta and should not be treated as confirmation of current live-game behavior. See the official Open Beta FAQ for that beta-scoped detail.
Reduce repeated button holds with toggles
Toggle Aim keeps aiming active until you press the control again, rather than requiring you to hold it. Toggle Sprint works similarly, but does not apply to Legacy or Legacy Alt schemes.

Change reload and cover behavior
Auto Reload Mode can start reloading automatically when a weapon is empty, or start when you press Reload or Reload/Fire, depending on the selected option. Remember Last Aim State restores the previous aim or zoom state the next time you aim. Slide to Cover can automatically enter cover while you slide toward it, and Allow Automatic Lean Out Transition can automatically approach and transition to lean-outs from cover.
Remap buttons and tune sticks
Controller remapping lets you swap gameplay button functions. Other options include inverting either axis, swapping sticks, inverting left/right or forward/backward movement, and toggling primary-weapon behavior.
Look, target, and scope sensitivity have separate horizontal and vertical controls. Aim Acceleration is another setting to adjust if the way the camera speeds up while aiming does not feel comfortable. The left-stick inner dead zone controls how much stick movement is needed before the character or camera moves: a larger inner dead zone requires more movement. The guide’s description of the outer dead zone is ambiguous, so check its wording in the current menu rather than assuming how that control behaves.

Controller Vibration and Adaptive Triggers (on supported controllers) can also be toggled. Change sensitivity or dead-zone settings in small increments so it is easier to identify which adjustment helped.

- Identify the problem: decide whether characters blend together, threat direction is unclear, text is hard to read, objective cues are easy to miss, or a controller action is uncomfortable.
- For character visibility: try High Contrast Characters and adjust the Player, Squad, Ally, and Enemy colors. Confirm that the current mode is Campaign or Horde Siege before relying on this feature.
- For imminent danger: enable Threat Indicators and, if useful, their audio feedback.
- For text: adjust UI or subtitle size, then try Speaker Names, Ambient Dialogue Subtitles, and a more legible Subtitle Color.
- For navigation or sound masking: try Audio Navigation Aid or Audio Ping where available, then balance dialogue, music, effects, and environmental audio separately.
- For controller effort: begin with a familiar scheme, then change one item at a time—such as remapping, a toggle, sensitivity, acceleration, or dead zones. These are sensible starting points based on what the controls do, not a tested best-settings recipe.
