Gears of War: E-Day is worth considering if you want a new Gears campaign to play solo, in console split-screen, or online with friends—but official feature details alone can’t establish whether its campaign is good enough to justify a separate purchase. It launches worldwide on October 6, 2026, and is included at launch with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, according to the Xbox store listing. If campaign quality, pacing, or length is your deciding factor, check independent reviews before buying.
What campaign and co-op does E-Day offer?
E-Day is a third-person cover shooter set 14 years before the original Gears of War. It follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde first emerges and the invasion begins. The Xbox store listing describes three campaign options:

- Solo: play the campaign alone.
- Console split-screen: play locally with one other person. The official materials specify console support, not PC split-screen.
- Online campaign co-op: play with up to four people total.
That four-player limit applies to the campaign, not every mode. Online play requires a Game Pass tier that includes online multiplayer, sold separately; check the current terms for your platform and region on the Xbox Wire launch announcement.

Is it a better fit for couch play or online groups?
Choose console split-screen for two people sharing a screen
If you want to play the campaign beside one other person on the same console, split-screen is the relevant feature. Do not assume it is available on PC: the official descriptions specify console-only split-screen.

Choose online co-op for a larger campaign group
The campaign supports up to four online players. This makes E-Day a plausible fit for a group that wants to play the story together, but the official feature listing does not establish matchmaking quality, connection stability, or how the campaign changes with more players.
Consider solo if you want the story without co-op
The campaign is playable alone. Whether its story, pacing, or length will satisfy you is a separate question from whether the game offers the mode you want; the official product information does not answer those quality questions.

Should you buy it or use Game Pass?
The Xbox store listing says E-Day is included at launch with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. If you already subscribe to one of those tiers, check your local store and current plan benefits before paying separately. Online campaign co-op has an additional requirement: you need a Game Pass tier that includes online multiplayer.
The standard worldwide launch is October 6, 2026. Premium Edition early access began October 1 at 8:00 a.m. PT / 15:00 UTC; that window is already underway as of October 4, 2026. Xbox lists Standard and Premium editions, with early access and digital bonus content among the Premium Edition additions. Prices, promotions, plan terms, and edition availability vary by market and can change, so confirm them in the live store before buying. Xbox Wire also lists the game for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam.

What about multiplayer beyond the campaign?
E-Day also includes Versus PvP and Horde Siege, a wave-based PvE mode. The developer’s multiplayer overview describes Horde Siege as a 12-player mode and reports three maps at launch. Those are separate multiplayer options, not an expansion of the campaign’s four-player online limit. They may add value if you also want multiplayer, but their presence does not prove the campaign itself is worthwhile.

Xbox describes a target of 4K and up to 60 FPS across campaign and multiplayer, with a compatible display required. Treat that as the publisher’s stated specification, not an independently measured result for every device or setup. The official materials cited here do not provide independent frame-rate testing or a campaign-length estimate.

A separate Xbox Series X Collector’s Edition is a physical-product option. The Coalition’s Collector’s Edition announcement lists a Premium Edition disc and collectible items, including a statue, replica COG tags, steelbook, and art print. It also says quantities are limited and availability varies by region. Check regional stock and contents; do not assume a standard physical-disc edition is available where you live.

- Check access first: you already have Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, which the Xbox listing says includes the game at launch.
- Wait for independent reviews: your decision depends on campaign quality, length, pacing, or real-world performance. The official materials establish features and publisher targets, not an independent verdict on those points.
- Consider the extras separately: Horde Siege, Versus, or the Collector’s Edition matter only if those modes or collectibles are part of what you want.
