Valheim is the closest broad match if you want co-op survival, exploration, crafting, base building, and boss progression. Choose Enshrouded instead if fantasy action-RPG combat, detailed building, or room for a larger group matters more. Both take different paths from RuneScape: Dragonwilds, so the best fit depends on which part of its mix you want to keep.
What makes RuneScape: Dragonwilds distinctive?
RuneScape: Dragonwilds combines survival-crafting with RuneScape’s setting and progression. Jagex describes it as an open-world co-op game set on Ashenfall, where players explore, complete quests, level skills, use spells, prepare potions, craft gear, and work toward the Dragon Queen. It is a survival game with RuneScape flavor, not the conventional RuneScape MMO. Jagex’s announcement lists solo play or teams of four; its full launch was 15 September 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Jagex’s launch announcement and the official Dragonwilds site describe the game and its launch.

Feature and group-size details come from the Dragonwilds Steam listing, Valheim Steam listing, and Enshrouded Steam listing. The best-fit column is a guide based on those published descriptions, not a head-to-head gameplay test.
Valheim: the closest broad survival-crafting match
Valheim is the strongest starting point if the essential draw is heading out with friends, gathering materials, building a base, exploring new biomes, and preparing for bosses. Its world is procedurally generated and inspired by Norse mythology, so it trades Ashenfall’s RuneScape lore and skill-led identity for a Viking setting and a survival loop centered on exploration and regional progression. The official listing supports groups of one to ten players, giving it a higher stated ceiling than Dragonwilds’ four-player teams.
#1 Best Overall
- A unique, cooperative party game

- Easy to learn and jump right into
- For 3-6 people - AGES 12+
GamesRadar+ called Valheim Dragonwilds’ clearest competitor in a 21 September 2026 post-launch impression. That makes it a useful comparison, not a universal verdict about which game is better. GamesRadar+’s comparison also includes that reviewer’s criticism of Dragonwilds’ sense of place and progression; those comments should be read as one critic’s view.
Enshrouded: fantasy combat and more expressive building
Pick Enshrouded if you want the fantasy setting to remain central but would rather emphasize action-RPG combat and construction. Its Steam description highlights dodge-and-parry combat, character builds, crafting, exploration, and voxel tools for detailed building in the fallen realm of Embervale. It supports up to 16 players, the largest stated group size among these three games.

- FUN & EXCITING GAMEPLAY - Build defenses during the day to prepare for zombie chicken attacks at night! Gameplay flows between day & night cycles that will keep players on the edge of their seat!
- GREAT FOR FAMILIES & FRIENDS OF ALL AGES - Zombie Chickens is the perfect card game for family game night, hanging out with friends, or playing solo in a round of zombie-fighting solitaire! 1-4 players, ages 9+, gameplay lasts around 35 minutes.
- 3 WAYS TO PLAY! You can play Zombie Chickens as a COMPETITIVE, COOPERATIVE, or SOLO game! In the Competitive game, players battle to defend their farms from zombie attacks until the last player standing wins! In the Cooperative game, players band together to defend a single farm in hopes of surviving until a rescue party arrives! In the Solitaire game, 1 player battles hordes of zombie chickens to survive as many nights as possible!
- SILLY YET STRATEGIC - Each zombie has 1 or more traits (flying, invisible, climbing, bulletproof, fireproof, timid, exploding) that you must overcome in order to defeat it. For example, a flamethrower is a great defense on your farm until a fireproof or invisible zombie comes along! So choose your defenses wisely and watch out for various events that can change the course of the game!
- CAN YOU SURVIVE THE BOK-BOK-ALYPSE? Or will the zombie chickens prevail?
At the 4 October 2026 research timestamp, Steam still labeled Enshrouded Early Access and listed 15 October 2026 as its planned departure date. That was a future date at the time; the listing does not establish here that the transition had already happened.
