If you want a MOBA to play while waiting for March of Giants, choose based on the part of its pitch that appeals to you: League of Legends for a familiar 5v5 format, or SMITE 2 and Predecessor for third-person action and console options. None of these games is established as matching March of Giants’ combination of commanding soldiers and reshaping the battlefield.
What March of Giants offers—and when you can play it
March of Giants is an announced 4v4 MOBA from Ubisoft. Its pitch combines a World War I-inspired battlefield with fantasy: players control a Giant with unique abilities, command soldiers to scout, gather resources, capture objectives, attack Giants, or pressure defenses, and deploy Battleworks such as trenches and bunkers to change lanes and create choke points. These connected systems are what distinguish its announced design from the alternatives below. Ubisoft’s announcement and the Steam listing describe the game.

Ubisoft’s October 1, 2026 press release schedules the Pioneer Playtest for October 7–18, 2026, with Early Access planned for summer 2027. The test is limited to North America and selected European countries; players request access through Steam and receive a notification if admitted. Ubisoft Montréal’s interview gives an October 19 end date, differing from the dated press release, so check the Steam page for current access details. As of the Steam listing, the game is marked “Coming soon,” not generally released. Its listed requirements include Windows 10/11, broadband internet, a persistent internet connection, and the Ubisoft Connect launcher; requirements may change during development.
Which game should you try?
| Game | Choose it for | How it differs from March of Giants |
|---|---|---|
| League of Legends | A free, familiar 5v5 MOBA structure. | Its official description centers on teams battling to destroy the enemy Nexus; the available information does not establish comparable soldier-command or battlefield-building systems. |
| SMITE 2 | Third-person action, controller support, and cross-play and cross-progression across PC and console. | A better fit for direct, close-in action than for the announced army-command systems in March of Giants. |
| Predecessor | A third-person MOBA available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, with cross-play. | A console-accessible action-MOBA option; the cited information does not establish Battleworks or army-command mechanics. |
Pick by the feature you want
For a classic 5v5 MOBA: League of Legends
If you mainly want the familiar team-versus-team MOBA loop while you wait, League of Legends is the most direct fit. Its official description frames the objective around destroying the opposing team’s Nexus. That is a conventional structural match, not a claim that it reproduces March of Giants’ 4v4 format or its soldier and construction systems.

- BUILD A PRESTIGIOUS DINOSAUR EXHIBIT: Compete to create the most impressive museum by collecting dinosaur cards and curating a high-scoring exhibit.
- CHOOSE BETWEEN ENGINE BUILDING OR SCORING: Use cards for powerful ongoing effects or sacrifice those abilities to score points by displaying them in your exhibit.
- MASTER PERFECT TIMING TO WIN: Balance when to keep cards for long-term advantages and when to play them for points—timing every decision is critical.
- RACE AGAINST RIVALS FOR LIMITED RESOURCES: Compete over dig sites, amber, sets, and news tokens as players jockey for efficiency and advantage.
- ENJOY DEEP STRATEGY WITH STREAMLINED PLAY: Accessible rules paired with meaningful decisions make First Giants ideal for strategy fans and competitive game nights.
For third-person combat and flexible play: SMITE 2
SMITE 2 is the relevant choice if you want a third-person action-MOBA view rather than a conventional top-down presentation. Its official site describes controller support, cross-play, and cross-progression across PC and console, making it the option to consider when input and platform flexibility matter.
For a third-person MOBA on console: Predecessor
Predecessor is another third-person MOBA option. Its official site lists PC, PlayStation, and Xbox availability and cross-play. The cited description supports it as an accessible platform alternative, not as a substitute for commanding a force or constructing battlefield defenses.

- Open the Steam page and check its current status and access instructions.
- If the Pioneer Playtest is open in your region, use the Steam page to request access. Ubisoft’s announcement limits the test to North America and selected European countries; requesting access does not guarantee admission.
- For a system check, use the Steam listing’s current requirements rather than relying on an older summary, since development requirements can change.
Ubisoft Montréal product marketing manager Laure Guilbert described the design ambition this way: “Our perspective is that, yes, MOBA is a difficult genre to break into. But there’s room for a different and innovative experience.” That explains why a familiar MOBA can fill the waiting time without necessarily offering the same play.
