Atari 50 is a strong pick if you want an interactive history spanning several Atari platforms, while Namco Museum Archives is better treated as an NES-era companion than as an arcade-native collection.

Bandai Namco’s launch announcement says the classic games, apart from PAC-MAN VS., support online rankings. PAC-MAN VS. has a specific hardware arrangement: four-player play requires two Switch consoles, with up to three ghost players on one console and the PAC-MAN player on the other. Check the publisher’s details if that mode is a deciding factor.

Nintendo’s US bundle page describes a bundle with 30 additional titles plus Ghosts ’n Goblins, and says pack games can also be purchased individually. Multiplayer is local and varies by game. The US listing also cautions buyers not to purchase content they already own, so check your library and the regional Nintendo listing before choosing a bundle or individual games.

Atari 50: a broader playable history
Atari describes Atari 50 as an interactive journey through 50 years of games, with more than 100 playable classics and six new titles by Digital Eclipse. Its scope goes well beyond arcade games: the product page includes arcade, Atari 2600/5200/7800, 8-bit computers, Lynx, and Jaguar. Interactive timelines combine playable games with trivia and interviews. That breadth makes it a history-led companion, not an arcade-only compilation. Atari also lists an Expanded Edition physical edition on its official site.
Namco Museum Archives: NES-era collections, not arcade-native ports
Bandai Namco presents Archives Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 as NES-era collections that combine historic arcade-derived games with sequels and other titles. Vol. 1 includes Galaxian, Xevious, Mappy, PAC-MAN, and Dig-Dug; Vol. 2 includes Pac-Land, Dig Dug II, Galaga, Rolling Thunder, and Gaplus. The publisher lists widescreen, saves, replay, and rewind. Choose these for the NES-era versions and their surrounding catalog, rather than expecting the same arcade-native collection as Namco Museum. Details are on Bandai Namco’s Archives page.

How to compare collections before buying
- Check the games and their versions. Decide whether you want arcade versions, NES-era adaptations, or a cross-platform history such as Atari 50.
- Compare the features you will use. Rewind, save/load, speed adjustment, display filters, challenge modes, and leaderboards differ by collection; confirm the exact feature on the relevant publisher or Nintendo page.
- Check multiplayer and screen layout. Multiplayer is not uniform: Capcom’s multiplayer varies by title and is local, while PAC-MAN VS. requires two Switch consoles for its four-player arrangement. Namco Museum also offers both horizontal and vertical layouts.
- Verify your regional store listing and edition. Packs, bundles, included games, compatibility notes, prices, and availability may vary or change. Review ownership before buying overlapping Capcom content.
These recommendations compare official product descriptions and listed features, not hands-on emulation tests. They do not establish which collection has the best emulation, lowest input lag, or most accurate arcade performance.
