Neither uses Dicevaders’ dice-and-grid combat, but both make managing random inputs and developing a run-long strategy central to play.
What makes a game feel like Dicevaders?
Dicevaders is a turn-based roguelike deckbuilder set in the StarVaders universe. Its official Steam description combines a tactical grid with drafted units and artifacts, dice rolls that can be manipulated or rerolled using Chrono, and commander-specific synergies. The appeal is not randomness alone: it is making choices that steer uncertain results toward a stronger plan.

That gives three useful points of comparison: what the game randomizes, what control you have over those outcomes, and how your strategy compounds during a run. The two recommendations below match the build-making side especially well, though neither reproduces Dicevaders’ tactical grid.

Balatro: choose it for hand-based combo building
Balatro is the closer fit if what you enjoy most is assembling combinations that grow more powerful as a run develops. You play poker hands and combine them with Joker cards to create synergies and shape a build. The random inputs are cards and poker hands—not dice—and its store description focuses on card combinations rather than unit placement on a battlefield. See Balatro on Steam.
#1 Best Overall
- Exciting and thrilling dice game (tactical game of chance) for the whole family
- Easy to learn, quick to play – ideal for any occasion
- Constant tension and surprising twists
- The revision of the classic in a handy format
- The "Biggys" and "Bandit" modules bring more variety to the game
- Random input: poker hands and cards.
- Where your choices matter: choosing and combining cards to build around useful interactions.
- Best match for: players who want to craft escalating combos more than they want grid tactics.
Steam lists a Dicevaders–Balatro bundle, a store-level sign that the games are adjacent options; it does not mean they play alike in every respect. If you want a boxed Switch copy, Balatro: Special Edition is another format to look for. Nintendo lists Balatro for Switch; GameSpot reported on the physical Special Edition in December 2024, and Slickdeals reported an Amazon listing on April 19, 2026. Those dated reports do not establish current Amazon stock, seller, or price, so check the live listing before buying.
Luck be a Landlord: choose it for symbol-engine builds
Luck be a Landlord builds runs around a slot machine: changing symbols and items create different strategies and interactions. That makes it a good choice if the pleasure of Dicevaders for you is shaping a build from unpredictable inputs. Its structure is substantially different, though: it is about a slot-machine economy and symbol combinations, not commanding units on a tactical grid. See Luck be a Landlord on Steam.
