It is a modern adjacent option, not a remake or a direct successor. The Croc remaster itself may also be the best fit if you want the original adventure with updated presentation and controls.
What makes a game feel like Croc?
Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is presented as a 3D platforming adventure built around rescuing kidnapped Gobbos. The remaster keeps that premise while adding enhanced HD graphics, updated control mechanics and camera, plus retro video modes that recreate the 1990s presentation. Read the official Steam listing for its description and features, and check the Nintendo US listing for that region’s Switch page.

Those details suggest a useful way to compare alternatives: decide whether you most want a colorful 3D adventure, room to explore, collectible objectives, or a nostalgic presentation. No other game should be assumed to reproduce Croc’s specific levels, characters, or rescue premise just because it is a 3D platformer.
A Hat in Time: best for exploration and collectibles
A Hat in Time is the best-supported modern alternative here if your favorite part of Croc is exploring colorful 3D spaces and working toward collectibles. Its official Steam listing calls it a 3D platformer, describes freely exploring large worlds, and makes Time Pieces the collectible objective. It also highlights settings such as a cooking-themed mafia, a bird-run film studio, and a spooky forest. The listing gives October 5, 2017 as its release date. See the official Steam page for A Hat in Time.
#1 Best Overall
The overlap is in the broad play appeal—3D platforming, distinct settings, and things to find—not in a claimed connection to Croc. Choose it if open-ended exploration and collecting sound more important than replaying Croc’s rescue story or its particular retro style.

If what you want is Croc rather than a game with a similar feel, the remaster is the direct choice: official listings describe the same Gobbo-rescue adventure with enhanced HD graphics, updated controls and camera, and retro video modes. Argonaut Games also says the remaster includes a digital museum of development materials and documentary interviews with contributors. Argonaut’s Croc page describes that material.

Store availability depends on platform and territory. The pages linked above establish a Steam listing and a Nintendo US Switch listing; check the storefront for your region and preferred platform before buying. The official pages call the original multi-million-selling, but do not provide a precise, dated sales figure to quote.
