No—the 2024 Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition does not eliminate the inner-display crease. Its revised hinge and display construction make the fold line shallower and less distracting than on the Galaxy Z Fold6, but it can still be seen in some light and felt under a fingertip. The phone’s real redesign combines a thinner, wider body, larger screens and a 200MP main camera with two major compromises: no S Pen support and Korea-focused availability.
Does the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition really have no crease?
The accurate description is reduced crease, not crease-free display. The center fold remains a physical part of the flexible panel. Its visibility changes with lighting, viewing angle and screen content: it may be subtle in a straight-on view, then obvious under overhead light, against a pale background or when the screen is off.

- Visible crease: the central line can still be seen.
- Tactile crease: a ridge or dip remains detectable when you slide a finger across the fold.
- Functional impact: it normally does not stop scrolling, touch input, multitasking or video playback.
Samsung describes a central crease as a natural characteristic of its foldable displays rather than, by itself, a defect. See Samsung’s support explanation at Samsung Support. “Nearly crease-free” can therefore describe an impression in favorable conditions, but “no more crease” is too absolute.
What changed in the Special Edition’s design?
Announced for South Korea in October 2024 and launched on October 25, the Special Edition is a slimmer, higher-spec variant of the Fold6 rather than an entirely new foldable platform. Reports attribute the less prominent fold to revised hinge geometry, a more controlled folding path and changes to the flexible display stack. Samsung has not published every internal construction detail for this model, so those mechanisms should be treated as reported design improvements, not proof of a flat, crease-free panel.

The body is also wider and the screens are larger. The 6.5-inch cover display is closer to a conventional phone shape, while the inner screen grows to 8 inches. A 200MP main camera addresses one of the Fold line’s biggest criticisms, although a higher pixel count alone does not establish better overall image quality.

The thinner body comes with a major trade-off
The Special Edition does not support the S Pen. The likely reason is engineering space: a digitizer and related hardware beneath a flexible display add thickness and complexity. That is an inference rather than a published Samsung explanation, but the buyer consequence is certain—artists, note-takers and productivity users cannot use inner-screen S Pen input on this model.

Samsung’s Fold4 specifications show that S Pen support is a separate hardware capability, not a universal feature of the Fold family: Fold4 reference sheet and unlocked Fold4 specifications. A thinner chassis and less visible crease should not be interpreted as a guarantee of greater long-term durability.
Is the wider design better in everyday use?
For many people, yes. The wider cover screen should make typing, messaging and web browsing less cramped, while the 8-inch inner display gives reading, multitasking and video more room. Samsung later carried the 6.5-inch cover and 8-inch inner-screen proportions into the Fold7, indicating that this form factor became part of its broader Fold direction: Galaxy Z Fold7.
The trade-offs are practical:
- A wider handset can be harder to reach across one-handed.
- Fold6 cases, protectors and hinge accessories should not be assumed to fit.
- Apps may still scale or letterbox on the unusual inner aspect ratio.
- The phone is only about 3g lighter than the Fold6, so the improvement is mainly folded thickness and proportions, not a dramatic weight reduction.
Hardware highlights beyond the crease
- Displays: 8.0-inch inner and 6.5-inch cover panels.
- Processing: Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy.
- Memory: 16GB RAM with 512GB storage in the reported configuration.
- Camera: 200MP primary rear camera; controlled testing is still needed to judge image quality.
- Battery: about 4,400mAh typical capacity in reported specifications; rated capacity can differ by regional listing.
- Inner selfie camera: reported as a 4MP under-display unit.
The camera upgrade and crease reduction are separate design decisions competing for internal space. The larger camera housing does not prove anything about the hinge or display mechanism.

Buying an imported Special Edition
The verified KRW 2,789,600 figure is the October 2024 Korean launch price, not a current 2026 resale value. Outside South Korea, availability is the central constraint rather than a footnote. Before importing, check:
- The exact model number and LTE/5G bands for your carrier.
- VoLTE, carrier certification and regional firmware requirements.
- Samsung Wallet, language and keyboard behavior in your region.
- Warranty eligibility, repair locations and inner-screen service costs.
- Whether the seller is offering a new Samsung unit, refurbished device or region-modified phone.
- Case, screen-protector and replacement-part compatibility.
Compatibility depends on the model, bands and carrier; an imported Korean unit is not automatically unusable elsewhere, but it also does not automatically receive local Samsung support.

It makes sense if you value
- A crease that is less visually prominent than on the Fold6.
- A wider, more comfortable cover screen.
- A thinner folded profile.
- The 200MP main camera, 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage.
- A rare Samsung model and are comfortable with regional buying complications.
Choose another Fold if you need
- S Pen support.
- Simple local warranty and repair access.
- A predictable retail purchase and accessories.
- The lowest total ownership cost.
- A genuinely flat, crease-free inner display.
Existing Fold6 owners gain the most from the wider cover screen, thinner pocket profile and camera upgrade; the crease improvement alone is unlikely to justify an import premium. Fold5 and older owners will notice a broader redesign, but should still weigh support and accessory availability. Buyers who want current official support may prefer a newer mainstream Fold, while collectors may accept the Special Edition’s scarcity as part of its appeal.

How later Samsung Folds put the change in context
Samsung’s later Fold7 materials describe an upgraded internal hinge structure, a thicker Ultra Thin Glass layer and a smoother-looking crease. Those statements help explain Samsung’s engineering direction, but they are not specifications for the 2024 Special Edition. See Samsung’s Fold7 design overview and display-stack explanation. Samsung’s general foldable guide also explains the role of hinges and flexible panels: Samsung Newsroom.
The Bottom Line
Verdict: The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition makes Samsung’s crease less noticeable, not nonexistent. Its meaningful advances are the wider 6.5-inch cover screen, 8-inch inner display, thinner folded body and 200MP camera. In exchange, you lose S Pen support and face Korea-centered availability, import risk and a launch price premium.
