The Galaxy S24 5G is smaller and lighter. At launch in the U.S. in January 2024, Samsung’s starting prices were $1,299.99 for the Ultra and $799.99 for the S24—a $500 gap between base configurations, not a current-price quote or a like-for-like storage comparison.
What is the difference between the Galaxy S24 Ultra and S24?
The main trade-offs are size, camera hardware, stylus functionality, battery capacity, and launch cost. Samsung’s specifications show a 6.8-inch QHD+ display on the Ultra and a 6.2-inch FHD+ display on the S24. The Ultra adds a 200 MP main camera and a 50 MP 5× optical telephoto camera; both phones have a 10 MP 3× optical telephoto and a 12 MP ultrawide. These specifications describe hardware, not guaranteed photo results in every scene.

Which model fits your priorities?
Choose the Galaxy S24 Ultra for the larger screen and S Pen
The Ultra’s 6.8-inch display offers more viewing area, while its S Pen supports workflows such as writing in Samsung Notes and composing messages or emails. Its 5× optical telephoto camera is an additional hardware option if you want that focal length. The larger dimensions and higher weight are the trade-off, especially if you prefer one-handed handling or a phone that takes up less pocket space.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
Choose the Galaxy S24 5G for a smaller phone
The standard S24 has a 6.2-inch display and is roughly 15 mm shorter and 8.4 mm narrower than the Ultra based on Samsung’s listed dimensions. It retains a 3× optical telephoto and ultrawide camera, but does not list the Ultra’s 5× telephoto or S Pen functionality.
Do not treat capacity or megapixels as test results
The Ultra’s listed typical battery capacity is 1,000 mAh higher. Capacity alone does not establish how long either phone lasts in a particular person’s use. Likewise, higher megapixel counts and additional camera hardware do not prove better photographs in every scene; no comparable independent battery-life or camera-quality test is established here.

How much more did the S24 Ultra cost at launch?
Samsung U.S. announced the following starting prices on January 17, 2024:

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →| Model | U.S. launch starting price | Listed storage options |

| Galaxy S24 5G | $799.99 | 128 GB, 256 GB |
The difference between those base prices was $500. Because the entry configurations had different storage, that is not a storage-matched comparison. These are January 2024 U.S. launch figures, not current prices; the amount you pay now depends on market, storage, seller, condition, carrier, and any offer or trade-in. Check your market’s exact model before buying
Samsung notes that specifications can differ by release region, and carrier variants may also differ. For example, Samsung’s Korean support page lists Exynos 2400 for the Korean S24 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy for the Korean Ultra. That example should not be generalized to every country or SKU. Check the specifications for the exact model sold in your market, particularly chipset, network variant, weight, storage, and color availability. Samsung Korea model support.
