No. The Galaxy S20 Ultra, S20 Ultra 5G, Galaxy S20 FE LTE, and Galaxy S20 FE 5G did not receive an official Android 14 or One UI 6 update. Their final official major platform upgrade is Android 13 with One UI 5.1.
Later security patches may exist for some model, carrier, and regional variants, but a security update does not change the phone to Android 14. If your S20 says it is up to date on Android 13, that is generally the expected result—not a delayed One UI 6 rollout.

Why Android 14 is not coming
Samsung’s S20 phones launched with Android 10. Samsung’s published support commitment provided three Android OS upgrades beginning with Android 11. The supported sequence was therefore:

That three-upgrade cycle ended with Android 13. Samsung’s official Android 14 and One UI 6 upgrade plan included newer models such as the Galaxy S21 FE and S21 Ultra, but not the S20 Ultra or either S20 FE family. Samsung’s later One UI 7 and One UI 8 compatibility information also lists newer supported devices while omitting the S20 generation.
Samsung’s original upgrade commitment is documented in its three-generation Android OS announcement. The Android 14 eligibility evidence appears in Samsung’s One UI 6 upgrade plan.
Do all S20 FE models have the same update?
No. “Galaxy S20 FE” covers multiple LTE and 5G firmware families. Examples include:

Carrier-branded, unlocked, and imported phones can receive maintenance releases at different times. Check the model number rather than relying only on the product name. Samsung’s firmware records for several S20 FE variants identify later official releases as Android 13, including releases with newer security patches.
Examples of Samsung’s model-specific firmware histories include the SM-G780G, SM-G780F, SM-G781U1, and SM-G781B.
How to check your installed Android and One UI versions
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone.
- Tap Software information.
- Read the entries for Android version, One UI version, Android security patch level, and Build number.
The three most important fields answer different questions:
- Android version: the underlying Google Android platform, such as Android 13.
- One UI version: Samsung’s interface and feature layer, such as One UI 5.1.
- Security patch level: the date of the latest installed security maintenance release.
One UI 5.1 is not Android 14. A newer security-patch date is not proof that the phone received One UI 6.

How to check for an official update
On the phone, open Settings → Software update or Settings → System updates, then choose Download and install, Check for system updates, or the similarly named option shown on your device. Labels vary by model, carrier, country, and software build.
Some carriers require Wi-Fi before an update check or download. If the phone reports that it is up to date, first confirm the model number and inspect the Android version and security-patch level. Do not factory-reset the phone simply because Android 14 is unavailable.
Check with Samsung Smart Switch
- Install Samsung Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac.
- Connect the phone with a USB cable.
- Allow Smart Switch to identify the device.
- Select Update if Samsung offers an official build.
- Keep the phone connected until installation finishes.
Smart Switch is another way to install an update that Samsung has made available for your exact device. It cannot create an unsupported Android 14 package or bypass the S20 series’ official upgrade limit. Samsung’s update instructions are available through its official support guide.
Why websites say Android 14 is available
Most conflicting claims come from one of these mix-ups:
- S20 FE versus S21 FE: the names are similar, but the S21 FE was eligible for Android 14 while the S20 FE was not.
- Custom ROM versus Samsung firmware: an unofficial Android 14 ROM may exist for a particular model without being One UI 6.
- Security patch versus OS upgrade: maintenance releases can arrive after Android 13.
- App or feature updates versus system updates: an updated Samsung app does not upgrade the phone’s Android framework.
- Delayed carrier updates: a late patch for one carrier model does not create eligibility for a major Android version Samsung excluded from the device family.
If a download page offers “Android 14 firmware,” verify whether it is official Samsung firmware, a custom ROM, a modified image, or merely one component of a larger package. Avoid unknown mirrors and files that do not match the phone’s exact model and regional configuration.
What about security updates?
Android platform upgrades and security maintenance follow separate tracks. An S20 Ultra or S20 FE can remain on Android 13 while receiving a later security patch. Conversely, a particular variant may stop receiving patches sooner than another variant.
There is no single reliable final security-patch date for every S20 Ultra and S20 FE worldwide. Check the phone’s patch level, model number, carrier, and region against Samsung’s model-specific firmware information. Android 13 alone does not prove that a phone is unsafe; the more relevant questions are whether it still receives patches and whether your banking, work, or other essential apps support its current software.

Can a custom ROM provide Android 14?
Potentially, but that would be unofficial software—not Samsung’s One UI 6 update. Availability depends on the exact model, chipset, bootloader status, regional configuration, and current developer support.

Custom-ROM installation can involve unlocking the bootloader, wiping the phone, and manually flashing software. Possible consequences include:
- Loss of data and difficult recovery
- Banking or payment apps failing security checks
- Problems with Google certification, DRM, or Samsung Knox features
- Broken or reduced camera functionality
- VoLTE, NFC, fingerprint, or carrier-call problems
- Warranty, resale-value, or update complications
Do not assume that a ROM advertised as “Android 14 for S20 FE” supports every S20 FE variant or every hardware feature. Use only model-specific developer documentation, create a complete backup, and ensure a recovery path before changing the phone’s software. A custom ROM is a project for an experienced user who accepts those trade-offs, not a hidden official update.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you keep the phone or replace it?
Keep it if Android 13, the current patch level, and the phone’s existing features meet your needs. You can continue installing compatible app updates without receiving a new Android platform version.
Consider replacing it if your model no longer receives security patches, an essential app requires a newer Android version, or you need current One UI features and longer official support. Another used S20 Ultra or S20 FE will not solve the Android 14 limitation.

However, compare camera hardware carefully: a newer FE phone is not automatically an upgrade in every camera specification over the S20 Ultra. Also check display characteristics, microSD support, charging, battery health, carrier compatibility, warranty, and the remaining official support period.
Samsung’s US MSRP document effective September 2025 listed the unlocked Galaxy S25 FE at $649.99 for 128GB and $709.99 for 256GB. Those are dated MSRP references, not guaranteed September 2026 selling prices.
