Galaxy AI is Samsung’s collection of AI features; Gemini is Google’s assistant. On a supported Galaxy phone, you can use Samsung tools for tasks such as translating calls, refining notes, or editing photos, and use Gemini to answer questions or carry out supported actions across apps. They are different services that can coexist—not two names for the same assistant.
Galaxy AI and Gemini are different layers of the Galaxy experience
Galaxy AI is Samsung’s label for AI-powered features available on supported Galaxy devices. Gemini is Google’s AI assistant, which Samsung documents as usable on Galaxy phones for questions and, where supported, actions involving apps. Some capabilities associated with the broader Galaxy experience come from Google: Circle to Search, for example, is a Google feature integrated into select Galaxy devices.

The practical distinction is whether you want a task-specific tool within a Samsung feature or an assistant to help answer a question and coordinate supported apps. Which features you see depends on your phone, software, region, language, apps, and account or connectivity requirements.
What Galaxy AI can do
Samsung describes Galaxy AI tools for communication, productivity, and creative tasks. Examples include:

- Audio Eraser: reduces or removes unwanted background audio from videos, according to Samsung’s feature overview.
Feature names and availability vary by device and software. Samsung UK’s Galaxy AI overview, updated May 9, 2026, lists features including Circle to Search, Note Assist, and Live Translate for supported Galaxy devices, while noting that supported models and rollout depend on updates. Samsung India’s regional overview, updated September 23, 2026, includes Gemini Live among the experiences shown. That broader branding does not mean every listed experience is developed solely by Samsung; check the feature’s provider and conditions.
What Gemini can do on a Galaxy phone
Samsung’s US setup guide describes Gemini as a digital assistant that can be launched on a Galaxy phone and, for supported workflows, act across apps. Its examples include finding a restaurant and preparing a message, asking about a video and saving information to Samsung Notes, and searching for an event and adding it to Samsung Calendar. The documented workflows name Google Maps, Samsung Messages, YouTube, Samsung Notes, and Samsung Calendar; availability and behavior can vary by app, model, and software.

Samsung also describes Gemini Live as a way to have a real-time conversation. Regional support guidance covers capabilities such as camera or screen sharing, attaching images or files, and interactive help, but these should not be assumed available on every phone, account, or software release. Samsung’s compatibility guide states that Gemini is supported on Galaxy phones running Android 10 or higher. It says Gemini Live and seamless actions across apps require Android 15 and One UI 7.0 or higher. These are the requirements in that support guidance, not a guarantee that every Gemini feature or app integration behaves the same across devices. Where Galaxy AI and Gemini overlap
Circle to Search is a Google feature on select Galaxy devices
Circle to Search lets you search for content on your screen without leaving the current context. Samsung identifies it as Circle to Search with Google and says it is available on select phones and tablets running Android 14 with One UI 6.1 or later. It requires an internet connection and may not work in apps that restrict screen capture. It is a Google capability integrated into supported Galaxy devices, not evidence that Galaxy AI and Gemini are the same product.
You can choose an assistant separately from Samsung’s in-app tools
Samsung support explains how to select Google as the default digital assistant and configure the Side button. Launching Gemini is distinct from using Samsung feature tools within apps such as Gallery, Notes, or Phone. The assistant setting determines how you call up an assistant; it does not turn every Samsung app feature into a Gemini feature.

For a specific phone, check the manufacturer’s support page for that model and region rather than assuming a feature is present because another Galaxy device has it. Samsung’s UK and India pages are regional references, and its US guides describe US support conditions; rollout and feature availability can differ.
Accounts, connectivity, and terms can differ by feature
Some Galaxy AI features require a Samsung account; some require an internet connection. Gemini and certain assistant actions may involve Google account, app, device, or network conditions. Read the requirements for the particular feature you plan to use instead of treating either label as a single set of uniform conditions.

Samsung’s US support page for the Galaxy A17 5G, A27 5G, A37 5G, and A57 5G says basic Samsung-provided Galaxy AI features are free under the terms cited there. It also says enhanced Samsung AI and third-party AI features may have different terms and may be subject to fees. This is qualified guidance for those models, not a blanket promise that every Galaxy AI or Gemini feature is free indefinitely.
