fzf-make gives you one interactive way to find and launch tasks defined by supported project tools. Run it from a project directory, type to fuzzy-filter the available commands, check the preview, then select a command to execute. It works with make, npm, pnpm, yarn, just, and Task; it helps you choose commands but does not replace those task runners.
How fzf-make works
Instead of remembering a target or script name, start fzf-make in your project directory. It presents detected tasks in a fuzzy finder: type part of a name to narrow the list, inspect the selected task in the preview window, and choose it to run. The project README also documents a history pane and a repeat mode for the last executed command. The fzf-make README describes the command sources and interaction.

Additional arguments can be passed through a popup interface. This is useful when a task accepts arguments but you do not want to type the full invocation from scratch.
Which task runners and project files does it support?
| Task source | How fzf-make finds tasks | Important compatibility detail |
|---|---|---|
| make | Recognizes GNUmakefile, makefile, or Makefile. |
Make include support is documented. |
| npm | Uses package-manager project files and can collect workspace scripts. | npm workspace support uses npm query and requires npm 8.16.0 or later. |
| pnpm | Uses package-manager project files and can collect workspace scripts. | Workspace script collection is documented; check the README for current behavior. |
| yarn | Uses package-manager project files and can collect workspace scripts. | Workspace script collection is documented; check the README for current behavior. |
| just | Recognizes justfile or .justfile in the current directory or an ancestor. |
Install the relevant runner to execute selected recipes. |
| Task | Lists Task tasks, including included task files. | Included tasks are read through task --list-all --json; Task v3.44.0 or later is required. |
Detection and workspace behavior differ by runner. A supported task definition must be present where fzf-make looks for it, and the underlying package manager or runner must be installed and compatible for execution. The README is the appropriate place to check current requirements and detection details.

Install fzf-make
The project README documents several installation routes: Homebrew, the Arch AUR, Nix/NixOS, Cargo, and mise. It also lists prebuilt binaries for Linux amd64 and arm64, and macOS arm64. Cargo is the build-from-source route; the documented example uses Rust toolchain 1.90.0. Availability can change between releases, so use the current instructions in the project README rather than assuming every package or binary is current.
Choose based on your system and preferred package workflow: use a package channel already maintained on your machine if it offers the release you need; choose a listed binary when your platform matches; or use Cargo if you have the required Rust toolchain and want to install from the crate.

Run a project task
- Check the project definition. Confirm that it has a supported makefile, package-manager project files, justfile, or Task configuration. For npm workspaces, confirm npm is at least 8.16.0; for Task includes, confirm Task is at least v3.44.0.
- Install the runner. fzf-make selects and invokes tasks; it is not a replacement for make, npm, pnpm, yarn, just, or Task.
- Open a terminal in the project directory. Run
fzf-make. - Filter the list. Type a fragment of the target, script, recipe, or task name to narrow the choices.
- Inspect and execute. Read the preview, select the intended command, and use the popup interface if you need to supply additional arguments.
When fzf-make is a good fit
- You switch among projects with different task names and want to search the available commands rather than recall each one.
- You want a preview before running a selected task.
- You want to revisit previously executed commands or repeat the last command.
- Your project uses one of the documented task sources and has the required runner installed.
If a task list does not appear, first check that you launched the tool in the right directory, that the expected definition file is present, and that its filename and location match the runner’s detection rules. For workspace or included-task behavior, check the relevant version requirement and the current README. The crate listing identifies fzf-make 0.75.0 as published on 2026-09-22; the README source page displayed 0.73.0 when retrieved, so feature and installation details should be verified against the current project documentation.
