Story Engine’s draft-review workspace moved from a locally opened web page to an MCP UI resource that a compatible host can present in a built-in Tab. The practical change is about keeping the project conversation and draft review visible together—not moving Story Engine to a hosted web service. According to the project article, the MCP route continues to use the local data store and the browser version’s business service.
Why move draft review out of the browser?
The original workflow split two related tasks across separate places: project discussion happened in the conversation, while a local website let the user browse drafts, read an article, and edit it before publication. That made it necessary to switch context when moving between “discussing a change” and “reviewing the draft.”

Putting the entire review page directly into the conversation was not a clean fix. A long article could take up most of the chat, making it awkward to move between the discussion and the draft. The new arrangement gives the review workspace its own host-provided Tab alongside the conversation.

What the built-in Tab is—and is not
The Tab is the host’s presentation of an MCP UI resource: an interface the host can render alongside a conversation. It is not, by itself, evidence that Story Engine became a hosted web application. The project article describes packaging the existing page, its styles and scripts, and brand assets as an MCP UI resource.

- CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
In the general MCP Apps pattern, a tool can point to a UI resource in its metadata. The host fetches and renders that resource in a sandboxed iframe, with communication between the interface and host handled through JSON-RPC over postMessage. The MCP announcement describes this as an official extension, while noting that client support is evolving. Those details explain the general mechanism; they do not establish how every host will present Story Engine. See the MCP Apps announcement.
How the opening and fallback work
According to the project article, the compact entry point asks the host once to present the expanded interface. In the described client, that request creates a built-in Tab. The host controls whether and how the requested presentation appears, so the request is not a guarantee that every client will open a Tab.

- If the host switches to the expanded view, the draft library appears in its Tab.
- If it does not switch views, an “Open Tab” button remains available as a manual fallback.
- Closing the Tab does not cause the interface to request it again automatically, avoiding an unwanted reopening loop.
The reported layout shows the project conversation at left and a named Story Engine draft library Tab at right. The accompanying screenshot documents that layout, but it does not show the opening transition, so it cannot establish that the Tab opened automatically.
What stays local and what is shared
The project article says the MCP route does not start a localhost HTTP listener and continues to use Story Engine’s local data store. It also says the hosted interface uses the same business service as the browser version. In practical terms, changing how the interface is presented does not, according to the article, replace the local storage path or duplicate the application’s business operations for the Tab.

- Clear visuals. Fluid motion: A 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms MPRT deliver smooth, tear‑free motion across work, gaming, and streaming for clearer, more fluid viewing.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star* certification reduces harmful blue light while preserving stunning color quality without compromise. *TÜV Rheinland 3-star eye comfort certification.
- Wide viewing angle: Get consistent views across a wide 178° /178° viewing angle.
- In-Plane Switching (IPS): See excellent color accuracy and consistency across wide viewing angles with In-plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
This distinction matters: “built-in Tab” describes where a compatible host presents the interface, not where the application’s data is hosted. OpenAI’s developer guidance likewise describes optional MCP UI resources rendered alongside conversation through an iframe and recommends keeping tools useful when a client does not render the component. That is general compatibility guidance, not independent validation of Story Engine’s implementation. See OpenAI’s MCP server UI guidance.
Why UI and tool versions can get out of sync
The project article reports a version mismatch in which a newer UI could reach an older running process whose tool registrations had not been updated. Its stated approach is for a new process to retain the bundled UI snapshot associated with its tool registrations. Adding tools remains a separate boundary: the client must reload the updated server before those new registrations are available.

- CURVED FOR ENHANCED ENGAGEMENT: An immersive viewing experience with a curved monitor that wraps more closely around your field of vision; It creates a wider view, enhancing depth perception and minimizing peripheral distraction
- SMOOTH PERFORMANCE FOR SEAMLESS CONTENT: Stay in the action when playing games, watching videos, or working on creative projects; The 100Hz refresh rate reduces lag and motion blur so you don't miss a thing in fast-paced moments¹
- MORE GAMING POWER: Gain the edge with optimizable game settings; Color and image contrast can be adjusted to see scenes more vividly and spot enemies hiding in the dark; Game Mode adjusts any game to fill the screen so you can view every detail²
- KEEP IT EASY ON THE EYES: Care for your eyes and stay comfortable, even during long sessions; Advanced eye comfort technology certified by TÜV reduces eye strain by minimizing blue light and reducing irritating screen flicker²
- INCREASED VERSATILITY: Connect to more; Plug devices straight into your monitor for increased flexibility, making your computing environment even more convenient
That means updating the visible resource and updating the server’s registered tools are related, but not interchangeable, changes. A client still connected to an older process may continue to expose the older set of tools until it reloads the updated server.

The project article reports source inspection and simulated-host checks covering the compact entry point, the expanded-presentation request, fallback behavior, and shared operations. The screenshot complements those checks by showing the host layout. The article does not establish that every review action was exercised inside the Tab.

It also does not establish that the complete opening, review, and return journey works across supported clients or after a clean installation. The article identifies those as areas for further verification, including how older running plugin processes behave. Since MCP client support is evolving, the availability and presentation of a built-in Tab should be treated as host-dependent rather than universal.
