On a computer, open File > Page setup, select Pages, choose Landscape under Orientation, then click OK. The same Page setup dialog lets you change paper size or page colour. If those page controls are missing, check whether the document is set to Pageless.
Make the whole Google Doc landscape on a computer
- Open the document in Google Docs.
- Select File > Page setup.
- At the top of the dialog, select Pages.
- Under Orientation, choose Landscape.
- Click OK.
In the same dialog, choose a different option under Paper size or Page colour to adjust those settings. Google’s Page setup help says Set as default applies the selected settings to new documents.

Change just one section or selection to landscape
Google Docs supports documents that mix portrait and landscape layouts, which can help fit a wide table, chart, or graphic without turning every page sideways. The section and selection controls are documented for computer use.

- Insert a section break at the boundary where the different orientation should begin or end.
- Open File > Page setup or Format > Page orientation.
- Under Apply to, choose This section or This section forward.
- Choose the desired orientation and click OK.
Choose Whole document under Apply to if you want the orientation change to affect the entire document. Alternatively, select text or an image, right-click, and choose Change page to landscape or Change page to portrait. See Google’s computer instructions for page setup and orientation.

Change page size or color on a phone or tablet
Google’s mobile instructions provide basic orientation, paper-size, and page-color controls. The menu path differs slightly between Android and iPhone or iPad.
Android
- Open the document and tap Edit at the bottom right.
- Tap More at the top right, then Page setup.
- Tap Orientation, Paper size, or Page color, then choose the setting you want.
iPhone or iPad
- Open the document and tap More at the top right.
- Tap Page setup.
- Tap Orientation, Paper size, or Page color, then choose the setting you want.
Google’s Android help and iPhone and iPad help state that these page settings are unavailable in Pageless documents. For a print preview, use More > Print layout. On Android, tap Edit to edit while viewing print layout.

Pages or Pageless: which format should you use?
| Format | How it behaves | Useful when you need |

| Pageless | Scrolls continuously without page breaks. Images adapt to screen size; wide tables can be viewed with horizontal scrolling, and line wrapping responds to screen size and zoom. | Continuous reading or working with wide tables without fixed page boundaries. |
Google explains the differences in its Pages and Pageless help. In Pageless, some elements, including headers, footers, and watermarks, are not visible; they reappear if you switch back to Pages. Some features, including columns and page numbers, cannot be added in Pageless. On a computer, switch formats through File > Page setup or the Format menu.

If Orientation or other page controls are missing
Check the document format first. If it is Pageless, switch to Pages through File > Page setup or the Format menu on a computer, then reopen Page setup. Pageless documents do not use page breaks, and Google’s mobile help likewise says page settings are unavailable in that format. On desktop Pageless documents, Google notes that the background color can be changed; this is a background color, not a page colour setting for paginated pages.
