Fortnite Battle Royale Sprites are small battlefield helpers that grant a special power when equipped. You find one during a match, decide whether its effect is worth the risk, and take it to an Extraction Site—or use an available extraction Gizmo—to bank it in your collection. Banking is important: an unextracted Sprite can be lost when you are eliminated, while a successful extraction lets you summon that Sprite in later matches with Sprite Dust.
The exact roster, Gizmos, and supported modes change with Fortnite updates. The abilities described below come from Epic Games’ v41.00, v41.20, and v41.30 materials, so treat them as season-specific rather than permanent game rules.

What a Fortnite Sprite is
Epic describes Sprites as “little helpers on the battlefield” that can be found and equipped during a match to receive a special Sprite Power ability. A Sprite is therefore more than a collectible: while equipped, it changes what your character can do or what information you receive.

Once you bank it, the Sprite becomes available for future matches and contributes to your progression.

There is no single “best” Sprite. The useful choice depends on whether your current plan is fighting, surviving, moving, gathering loot, scouting, or supporting a squad. A power that is excellent during a long-range fight may be less useful when you are rotating through open ground, and a loot-focused Sprite may not help when you already have a strong loadout.
Sprite powers in the v41 roster
The following effects are the abilities Epic documented for v41.00, with additional types described in v41.20 and v41.30. Names, triggers, and availability can change in a later season.
| Sprite | Documented effect | Best understood as |
|---|---|---|
| Earth | Gives a chance of finding extra rare chest items. | Loot improvement |
| Fire | Creates a burst after you deal sufficient damage. | Combat pressure |
| Water | Replenishes shields while you are in water, for you and nearby squad members. | Squad sustain |
| Duck | Replenishes shields while you are emoting or jamming. | Conditional defense |
| Ghost | Grants a short cloak after you reload. | Stealth and repositioning |
| Demon | Siphons health and shields when you score an elimination. | Elimination recovery |
| King | Increases pickaxe damage. | Harvesting and close-range utility |
| Dream | Provides a random item at each level and legendary loot at maximum level. | Progression and loot |
| Punk | Is described by Epic as “Possibly nothing… or infinitely something.” | Uncertain or variable effect |
| Zero Point | Spawns a Shield Bubble Jr. when you use a healing item on yourself. | Defensive cover |
| Air | Improves sprinting and jumping and prevents fall damage. | Mobility |
| Batman | Enables a midair Bat Cape glide and improves rare Sprite finds in chests. | Traversal and discovery |
| Seven | Reveals enemy footsteps. | Information |
| Lootin’ Llama | Can upgrade a weapon when you open an ammo box. | Weapon improvement |
| Peeky Peely | Marks nearby rare variants or enemies carrying them, while also revealing your location. | Tracking with a visibility trade-off |
Some powers have a clear condition: Ghost needs a reload, Water needs water, Duck needs an emote or jam, Demon needs an elimination, and Zero Point needs you to heal yourself. Read the on-screen description before committing to a fight so you know what event activates the effect. Peeky Peely is especially important to understand as a trade: it can reveal targets or rare variants, but it also reveals your own location.

Compare a Sprite by its actual effect, the condition required to trigger it, and the time you expect to spend carrying it before extraction. A practical decision process is:
- Identify your immediate problem. If you need movement, Air or Batman addresses traversal. If you need information, Seven or Peeky Peely may be more relevant. If your squad is trying to stay healthy near water, Water has a group benefit.
- Check whether you can reliably trigger the power. A shield effect tied to water is of limited value if your next rotation is entirely inland. A reload-triggered cloak is easier to plan around during a fight than a power whose condition you rarely meet.
- Account for your loadout and teammates. Demon is more valuable to a player actively seeking eliminations than to someone avoiding combat. Water can benefit nearby squad members, while a pickaxe-damage increase is more personal.
- Price in extraction risk. A powerful Sprite does nothing for your permanent collection until it is banked. If the route to an Extraction Site is dangerous and you cannot defend the approach, keeping a less exciting Sprite may be the safer decision.
These are tactical judgments, not fixed rankings. Epic has not published a universal tier list or a statistic showing how often each Sprite appears or how much each power improves a match.

The collection and extraction loop
Epic’s baseline procedure is to find a Sprite, carry it to an Extraction Site, defend the pickup while the timer runs, and interact with the arriving crate to bank the Sprites you are carrying or have equipped.
- Find a Sprite. Explore the island and open chests as you play. When you encounter a Sprite, inspect its name and power before equipping it.
- Equip it when the effect is useful. Equipping activates the Sprite Power for that match. The power does not mean the Sprite is already secured in your collection.
- Locate an Extraction Site. Travel to the marked site while remembering that elimination before banking drops the found Sprite for another player.
- Activate the site. Use the site’s panel or interaction prompt. This starts the extraction sequence.
- Defend during the timer. Stay alert for opponents while the extraction runs. The site is a predictable objective, so arriving with enough health, ammunition, and cover matters.
- Open the extraction crate. When the crate arrives and becomes available, interact with it. The carried and equipped Sprites are banked into your collection, and the successful extraction awards Sprite Dust.
Extraction is the point at which a temporary match find becomes a persistent collection entry. If you are eliminated before that interaction, the Sprite is not banked for you.
Using Gizmos to extract without visiting a site
Epic also documents Gizmos that can change the extraction route. Portable Extractor is described as a way to extract an equipped Sprite from anywhere on the island. Later v41 updates describe the Sprite Locator and Lucky Locator as additional Sprite-related tools.
Gizmo behavior and availability are seasonal. Before relying on one, open the current in-game Gizmo Wheel and read its live description. Do not assume that a tool documented in one update is still present, has the same range, or works in the same modes later.
- Gizmos cannot be traded or dropped when you are eliminated.
- Epic’s v41.20 notes place Gizmos in unranked Battle Royale and Zero Build.
- Gizmos expire at the end of the season. The in-game timer shows the exact current expiration date.
If a Gizmo is available in your season, it can reduce the exposure involved in traveling to and defending a conventional Extraction Site. It does not remove elimination risk entirely: you still need to survive long enough to use the tool and complete its interaction.

How Sprite Dust, levels, and Mastery work
Sprite progression is tied to three activities Epic lists in the v41.00 notes:
- Exploration: finding Sprites and opening chests.
- Eliminations: securing player eliminations.
- Extraction: successfully banking Sprites.
Successful extraction awards Sprite Dust. Dust has two documented uses: summoning a Sprite you have already extracted before a match, and upgrading that Sprite’s powers and loot. This is how a banked Sprite returns to your future games instead of needing to be found from scratch every time.
Extracting a max-level Sprite grants Mastery and progression rewards. Epic recommends working toward maximum level across multiple matches, but the official material does not establish a universal number of matches or a fixed Dust cost. Those values can depend on the live season and should be read from the current in-game progression screen.
How to summon an extracted Sprite again
After you have completed an extraction, the Sprite appears in your collection rather than remaining a one-match pickup. Spend the required Sprite Dust through the collection or pre-match summon interface to bring an already extracted Sprite into a later match. The exact menu label and Dust requirement may change with an update, so follow the current prompt shown in your lobby.
If a Sprite is not listed as summonable, first verify that the earlier extraction actually completed: interacting with the crate after it arrived is the step that banks the Sprite. A Sprite that was merely carried, equipped, or taken to a site but not successfully deposited is still only a match pickup.

Mode and season limitations
Epic’s Battle Royale support page states that Sprites are not available in competitive modes. The documented Gizmo availability is narrower still: v41.20 notes specify unranked Battle Royale and Zero Build. If you switch playlists and cannot find a Sprite, collection summon, Extraction Site, or Gizmo, check whether the mode supports the feature before treating it as a bug.
Sprites, powers, Gizmos, and expiration dates are update-dependent. The v41.00 launch roster is not a promise that every listed type remains active, and v41.20 and v41.30 add or describe later variations. Use the current support information and the in-game UI for the live season’s names, locations, timers, and restrictions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Battle Royale Sprites versus Creative’s Earth Sprite device
“Earth Sprite” has a second meaning in Fortnite Creative. The Creative Earth Sprite device is placed and configured by an island creator. It can exchange weapons or other gear for loot, with settings such as team or class access and trade limits.
That device is not the Battle Royale Earth Sprite. It does not use the Battle Royale collection, Sprite Dust, Extraction Sites, or the Earth Sprite’s chest-loot power. When a Creative island mentions an Earth Sprite, read the island’s device settings and instructions rather than applying Battle Royale extraction rules.
Practical tactics for safer extractions
Plan the route before equipping
Look for the Extraction Site and consider the path, nearby cover, and whether your squad can defend the objective. Equipping first and improvising later increases the time you spend carrying a Sprite without a secure deposit.

Use the power while preserving the objective
A Sprite’s effect can help you reach or defend the site, but do not forget the collection objective. For example, Ghost’s reload cloak may help you reposition during a fight, while Water can sustain a squad near water. The power is useful only if at least one player survives to complete the extraction.
Decide when to abandon the attempt
Extraction is optional until you commit to the site. If opponents control the area, your squad is critically low on resources, or the current Sprite no longer fits your plan, disengaging can be better than forcing a fight. You lose the unbanked Sprite if eliminated, but a failed push can also cost the entire match.
Check timers before depending on a Gizmo
Because Gizmos expire at season end, inspect the timer in the current game rather than relying on an old guide or a previous season’s date. A tool that worked in an earlier v41 update may be unavailable or changed after a patch.
Troubleshooting common Sprite problems
“I found a Sprite, but it is not in my collection.”
Finding or equipping is not enough. You must activate an Extraction Site or use a documented extraction Gizmo, wait for the extraction to complete, and interact with the crate or tool’s completion prompt. Elimination before banking leaves the Sprite on the battlefield.
“The Extraction Site is active, but nothing is banked.”
Remain until the timer finishes and the crate becomes interactable. The deposit occurs when you use the completed crate, not merely when you start the site.
“I cannot find Sprites or Gizmos.”
Check the playlist first. Competitive modes do not support Sprites, and the documented v41 Gizmo rules limit them to unranked Battle Royale and Zero Build. Then check the current season’s map, collection screen, and Gizmo Wheel, since locations and rosters can change.
“My Gizmo disappeared.”
Gizmos expire at the end of the season and cannot be dropped or traded after elimination. Open the in-game timer to confirm whether the season expiration has passed.

“The power does not seem to activate.”
Read the trigger carefully. Fire requires sufficient damage, Ghost requires a reload, Demon requires an elimination, Duck requires emoting or jamming, Water requires being in water, and Zero Point requires using a healing item on yourself. Other powers are passive, level-dependent, or tied to a specific event such as opening an ammo box.
Quick Recap
What to remember
- Every equipped Sprite supplies its own power; choose according to the effect and its activation condition.
- A found Sprite is temporary until you complete an extraction.
- Elimination before banking can leave the Sprite for another player.
- Sprite Dust lets you summon extracted Sprites and upgrade their powers or loot.
- Exploration, eliminations, and extraction drive leveling; max-level extraction awards Mastery and progression rewards.
- Competitive modes do not support Sprites, and Gizmos are season-limited tools whose exact availability must be checked in game.
- Creative’s Earth Sprite device is a separate creator-configured gear-for-loot system.
