After it is collected, Epic says you can bring it into later matches and use its power from the start. Sprites are not available in competitive modes, and Epic has not published exact spawn coordinates, a guaranteed number per match, or a complete current type map.
What Sprites do in Fortnite
Sprites are match collectibles that provide gameplay powers. Epic’s Runners announcement describes examples including shields, temporary invisibility and a burst of bonus damage. The exact effect depends on the Sprite and the current season’s implementation, so treat those examples as the kinds of benefits the system can provide rather than a complete list of every available variant.

The collection loop has two different parts:
- Find and extract: locate a Sprite on the island during a supported match and complete the game’s extraction interaction.
- Use and develop: bring a collected Sprite into a future match, then level it through play.
Epic’s June 5, 2026 announcement says Sprites are spread “all over the new Island.” It does not give coordinates for named locations, a type-by-type map, spawn percentages or a guaranteed spawn count. That means a reliable guide can explain the collection process, but cannot honestly promise a particular landing spot or route.

Before you queue: check that the match supports Sprites
Sprites are unavailable in competitive modes, according to Epic Games Player Support. Choose a supported non-competitive playlist before planning a Sprite hunt. If you search in a competitive match, you should not expect the mechanic to appear, regardless of where you land.

| Question | What the official information establishes | Practical decision |
|---|---|---|
| Is this a competitive mode? | Sprites are not available in competitive modes. | Use a supported non-competitive match for finding or using Sprites. |
| Where should I land? | Sprites are described as being all over the new Island; exact coordinates are not published. | Pick a route you can safely search rather than chasing an unverified map pin. |
| What Sprite will appear? | No complete current roster, variant rate or guaranteed type-by-location list is provided. | Expect the match to determine what you encounter; do not rely on legacy shrine charts. |
| What happens after collection? | Collected Sprites can be brought into future matches for their powers. | Once extracted and added to the collection, select or equip the collected option when preparing a later supported match. |
The mechanic was added in version 41.00, as identified on the official support page, but the current island and season matter more than that historical version number when you are following a location guide.
How to find a Sprite during a match
1. Start a supported match
Enter a non-competitive playlist in which the current Runners Sprite system is enabled. Because the official documentation does not publish a complete mode-by-mode list, the safest check is whether Sprites appear as an active feature in the match’s current season and playlist information. Competitive modes are the explicit exclusion.
2. Search the island without relying on old shrine guides
Move through the island and watch for a Sprite you can interact with. Epic’s current wording is broad: Sprites are across the new Island, not confined to one announced shrine or one named point of interest. Older Chapter 6 Season 1 articles may describe Sprite Shrines, but those guides concern a previous island and mechanic context. They are not evidence of current Chapter 7 spawn locations.
A practical search plan is to choose a landing area with enough cover and nearby movement options, then sweep buildings, open ground and paths methodically. This is positioning advice, not a claim that any one terrain type has a higher spawn rate. No official source establishes such a rate.
3. Confirm that the object is a Sprite
Use the in-game visual and interaction prompt rather than a third-party map label. The available official material does not define a universal color code, audio cue or button for every platform. If the prompt does not appear, check that you are in a supported mode and that you are close enough for the normal interaction to register.

4. Secure the area before interacting
Extraction takes place in the live match, so nearby opponents, the Storm and your remaining resources still matter. Clear or avoid immediate threats before beginning the interaction. Do not assume that spotting a Sprite automatically places it in your collection; Epic’s instructions specifically say to find one and extract it.
How to extract and collect a Sprite
Use the on-screen extraction interaction
When you are beside the Sprite, follow the interaction prompt shown by Fortnite for your platform. The official announcement calls this action “extract” and says that extraction adds the Sprite to your collection. Because control bindings vary between keyboard, controller and accessibility layouts, an article should not substitute a universal key or button that Epic has not specified.

- Approach the Sprite until the game displays its interaction prompt.
- Start the extraction action shown on screen.
- Remain in position and complete the interaction instead of moving away or being eliminated.
- Verify the game’s collection confirmation before treating the Sprite as secured.
The exact confirmation wording and animation can change with a season update. The important outcome is that the Sprite is extracted and recorded in your collection, rather than merely seen or carried temporarily during the encounter.
What “banking” means
Epic Player Support uses “bank your Sprite” when describing the risk of elimination. In practical terms, banking is the point at which the Sprite has been secured for you instead of remaining available in the battlefield. If you are eliminated before banking it, the Sprite is left on the battlefield and another player can pick it up again. Epic’s exact warning is: “If you get eliminated before you bank your Sprite, it will be left in the battlefield so someone else can pick it up again.” Epic Games Player Support explains the rule here.
If extraction fails
- Reposition until the interaction prompt returns; do not assume the Sprite was collected if there is no confirmation.
- Check the Storm and enemy positions before trying again.
- If you are eliminated before banking, accept that the Sprite can be recovered by another player rather than counting it as yours.
- In a later match, try again in a non-competitive playlist; the sources do not promise that a failed attempt reserves the same Sprite for you.
How to bring collected Sprites into later matches
Epic says collected Sprites can be brought into future matches so you can use their powers from the start. The announcement gives the outcome, but it does not publish one permanent menu path or a platform-independent button sequence. Seasonal interface changes and control settings can alter the labels you see.

- After a successful extraction, open the collection or Sprite selection interface provided by the current Fortnite build.
- Choose a Sprite you have already collected.
- Confirm the selection before entering the next supported match.
- At the beginning of that match, check the HUD or inventory information to confirm that the selected power is active or available.
If the option is missing, first verify that you are not entering a competitive mode. Then make sure you actually completed extraction in the earlier match; seeing a Sprite or beginning an interaction is not the same as adding it to the collection. Epic’s public announcement does not establish every persistence edge case, such as what happens when a player changes playlists immediately after a failed interaction, so do not infer a guarantee beyond a successfully collected Sprite being usable in future matches.
How Sprite leveling works
Player Support says Sprites level through three kinds of match activity: exploration, eliminations and surviving the Storm. The documentation does not state the number of points required per level, the level cap, a fixed amount awarded by each action or whether every Sprite levels at exactly the same rate.
| Activity | What is confirmed | What is not published |
|---|---|---|
| Exploring | Exploration contributes to Sprite leveling. | No distance, landmark count or point value is stated. |
| Eliminations | Getting eliminations contributes to Sprite leveling. | No per-elimination value, weapon requirement or cap is stated. |
| Surviving the Storm | Surviving the Storm contributes to Sprite leveling. | No specific circle, duration or survival threshold is stated. |
A low-risk leveling approach
For a player who wants progress rather than a single high-risk fight, combine ordinary map movement with survival. Explore as you rotate, take eliminations when they are favorable, and keep yourself alive through Storm phases. This follows the three activities Epic identifies without pretending that one route or one elimination total guarantees a level.
Do not confuse leveling with banking
Leveling is progression earned through activity. Banking is securing the Sprite so elimination does not leave it on the battlefield. You can pursue leveling only after you have a Sprite in the match, but surviving long enough to earn progress does not remove the need to complete the collection or banking step when you first obtain one.
What happens if you are eliminated?
The timing of elimination determines the result:
- Before banking: the Sprite remains on the battlefield and another player can pick it up.
- After successful collection: Epic says the collected Sprite can be brought into future matches. The public guidance does not enumerate every possible post-elimination inventory edge case, so rely on the collection confirmation rather than assuming an incomplete interaction persisted.
This creates a clear priority in a contested area: secure the Sprite first, then pursue optional fights or exploration. The rule does not guarantee that you can return to the same location after elimination, nor does it identify how far another player may travel before finding the dropped Sprite.

Season continuity: Chapter 7 Season 4 and Runners Sprites
Epic Player Support says a new Sprite generation continues into Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4. It also says Season 3: Runners Sprites are preserved in the Sprite Garden and collection. In other words, the arrival of a new generation does not mean the previous Runners collection is automatically erased.
| Season status | What Epic says | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Season 3: Runners Sprites | Preserved in the Sprite Garden and collection. | Previously collected Runners Sprites remain represented there. |
| Chapter 7 Season 4 | A new Sprite generation continues. | Current-season Sprites may be a new generation; do not assume their roster or powers match Season 3. |
| Exact roster and variants | Not enumerated in the cited continuity notice. | Use the current in-game collection for the authoritative list rather than an old guide. |
The continuity notice does not list every new Sprite, variant chance or power. It supports collection continuity, not a complete catalog.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Where do Sprites spawn?
The most accurate current answer is “across the new Island,” based on Epic’s Runners announcement. No official source cited for this guide provides exact coordinates, named guaranteed locations, a spawn-rate chart or a type-specific map. Therefore:
- Do not treat a single community marker as a guaranteed spawn.
- Do not recycle Chapter 6 Season 1 Sprite Shrine coordinates for the Chapter 7 island.
- Do not promise a fixed number of Sprites per match.
- Search supported matches systematically and use the live interaction prompt as your confirmation.
Because the game can change the island and its distribution between updates, a location list without a matching official season reference can become misleading quickly. Epic’s current announcement is the appropriate baseline for the Runners island: broad island-wide availability, with no published coordinate list.
Battle Royale Sprites versus Creative Earth Sprite Devices
Fortnite Creative has separate documentation for an Earth Sprite Device. In Creative islands, a creator places the device and players trade gear for loot. That is a creator-controlled device mechanic, not a Battle Royale location guide for the current Runners Sprites. Epic’s Creative documentation covers Earth Sprite Devices.

Common mistakes and fixes
Searching in a competitive playlist
Symptom: you cannot find or use the mechanic. Fix: switch to a supported non-competitive mode; Epic explicitly excludes competitive modes.
Following a Chapter 6 shrine map
Symptom: the marked shrine is absent or does not produce the expected Sprite. Fix: discard the legacy coordinates. Current official guidance only says Sprites are all over the new Island.
Leaving before the interaction is complete
Symptom: the Sprite is not in your collection. Fix: repeat the interaction and wait for collection confirmation while protecting yourself from opponents and the Storm.
Assuming a visual sighting equals ownership
Symptom: you were eliminated and expected to keep the Sprite. Fix: remember that elimination before banking leaves it on the battlefield for another player.
Expecting a published level formula
Symptom: a guide promises an exact number of eliminations or Storm circles for a level. Fix: treat that number as unverified unless Epic publishes it. The official support information confirms only the three activity categories.
Confusing season preservation with an unchanged roster
Symptom: you expect every Season 3 power or variant to work exactly the same in Chapter 7 Season 4. Fix: use the current Sprite Garden and collection interface; Epic confirms preservation and a new generation, not an identical roster or power list.
