Did Fortnite remove building from every mode?
No. Epic introduced Zero Build as a distinct no-building Battle Royale experience, not as a rule that applies to all of Fortnite. In its December 2024 Fortnite OG announcement, Epic said OG’s building mechanics would be uniform with Battle Royale at that time and also listed Zero Build as an option. That announcement describes the lineup then; it does not guarantee the current rules or playlist roster.

Epic’s May 14, 2026 update referred to a “major overhaul for Zero Build,” confirming that it continued to use the mode name. The update announcement does not spell out the overhaul’s changes, so it cannot establish the current details of Zero Build or the complete playlist lineup.
How do building-enabled Battle Royale and Zero Build differ?

How to choose a mode
- Choose a building-enabled Battle Royale experience if you want to place structures during a match. Check the playlist description for the specific experience’s current rules.
- Choose Zero Build if you want a match where building is prohibited.
- Use the in-game Discover or playlist selector to confirm which experiences are available now, since playlists can change.
What Epic said about Zero Build
When Epic announced Zero Build on March 29, 2022, it called it “a pure test of weapon, item, and traversal ability.” The launch announcement listed Solo, Duos, Trios, and Squads, but that was the launch-era playlist list—not a current count or promise of availability.
