You can’t retrieve or reveal a forgotten password through Samsung’s official process for the Portable SSD T7. Samsung says it has no password recovery option. Its stated remedy is a factory reset, which erases the drive’s stored data. If the files matter, don’t authorize a reset until you’ve asked Samsung support about your exact model and region.
First, check that the password is actually wrong
If you may have mistyped it, check the keyboard layout and capitalization, then try the password the drive’s owner originally set. Samsung’s reviewed instructions do not describe a way to reveal a password through repeated attempts or to bypass the password while preserving access to locked files.

Identify your Portable SSD model
Check the label on the device or your purchase records before following reset instructions. Samsung’s product-document index lists manuals for the T9, T7 Shield, T7 Touch and T7. The cited T7 and T7 Shield manuals both say there is no password recovery option and warn that a factory reset loses user data. Instructions for one model or country should not be assumed to apply to every Portable SSD.

These are not ways to recover the old password or unlock files without it. The regional guidance differs, and the sources do not establish one universal reset procedure for every model and country. Confirm the correct process with local Samsung support.

Before you accept a factory reset
- If you need the files, stop before initiating a reset. Samsung warns that user data on the device will be lost.
- Consider whether you have another copy of the files, such as a backup on another drive or computer.
- Contact Samsung support for your country and exact model, and ask what options apply before authorizing a reset.
- Do not rely on third-party tools advertised as password bypasses or file-recovery solutions: the cited Samsung instructions do not establish that such tools can bypass the drive’s security or recover its locked files.
Why Samsung does not provide password recovery
The T7 manual says, “In an effort to keep the device as secure as possible, there is no password recovery option.” It explains that a forgotten-password user must have the drive restored to factory settings through customer service centers, and warns that the reset loses all user data. The T7 Shield manual gives the same no-recovery warning. In practical terms, Samsung’s documented route restores factory settings by erasing the drive; it does not retrieve the forgotten password or preserve access to the stored files.
