Those are vendor-described capabilities—not independently verified results—and FollowSpy says it does not guarantee the accuracy of data it retrieves or displays. Use the techniques below as ways to organize observations, not as proof of someone’s behavior.
What FollowSpy can—and cannot—establish
FollowSpy describes itself as a service for viewing activity around public Instagram profiles, including who a profile recently followed, new followers, and apparent unfollowers. Its homepage also advertises public-story viewing. The service does not establish private-account activity, and its terms disclaim any guarantee that displayed data is accurate. FollowSpy also says it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram or Meta. See FollowSpy’s feature descriptions and its Terms of Service.

That distinction matters: a third-party listing can be incomplete, delayed, or otherwise wrong. A change between two observations may suggest a change, but it cannot by itself confirm why it happened or prove a person took a particular action. FollowSpy does not establish that its results are complete, real-time, or consistently available.
Set expectations before you check a profile
Start with a public username and confirm that the profile is actually public. FollowSpy’s advertised workflow concerns publicly available information; it is not a method for opening a private account, recovering deleted activity, or bypassing a block. If a lookup fails, that may reflect account visibility, a temporary service issue, a changed username, or incomplete data. Do not repeatedly query an account in a way that becomes intrusive.
#1 Best Overall
Record your time zone and the exact time of each observation. Instagram activity can change between checks, and a displayed list may not represent the instant an action occurred. Keep the purpose narrow—for example, checking a brand’s publicly visible audience or documenting your own public profile—not building a personal surveillance file on another individual.
Eight careful ways to use FollowSpy
1. Review the recent-follow list
For a public profile, look at the recently followed accounts FollowSpy presents. This can help you scan a list without manually comparing every visible account. Note the profile name, the accounts shown, and the time of the check. Treat the order and recency as the service’s presentation, not a verified, real-time timeline. A listed account does not explain the relationship, the purpose of the follow, or whether the follow is still active.
If a result seems surprising, make a second observation later instead of treating one screen as conclusive. Avoid contacting the profile owner or the listed accounts based only on a tracker result.
2. Note newly listed followers
FollowSpy advertises the ability to show new followers. If you are monitoring a public profile for a legitimate reason, record what appears and when you checked it. A newly displayed account is an observation from the service, not independent confirmation of the timing or cause of a follow. The account could have followed earlier, the service could have refreshed late, or the list could be incomplete.
For a business or creator, this check can help organize publicly visible audience changes. It cannot identify a follower’s motive, verify that the account is authentic, or establish that a person viewed a post or story.
3. Compare observations over time
A simple comparison can be more useful than relying on one screen. At separate times, note the public profile, the date and time, and the accounts shown in the relevant list. Compare the notes to identify what appears to have changed. FollowSpy does not describe this comparison as a separately confirmed feature.
Use consistent intervals if you need a readable series, such as checking once a day rather than refreshing continuously. Preserve the original note when you update it, and distinguish “not displayed” from “confirmed absent.” A temporary loading problem or a different sort order can otherwise look like a meaningful change.

4. Look for apparent unfollows by comparing lists
FollowSpy advertises unfollower tracking. You can also compare dated observations of a profile’s visible follower list and flag accounts that no longer appear. Call these apparent changes: a missing account could reflect incomplete or changed data rather than a confirmed unfollow. A person may have changed a username, deactivated an account, blocked the profile, or become temporarily unavailable in the display.
Rank #2
Do not use a result to confront, harass, or monitor someone intrusively. An unfollow is a private social choice even when the profile itself is public. If you are managing a brand account, use the information only for high-level audience understanding and moderation decisions that you can justify independently.
5. Review the public follower and following lists
FollowSpy’s mobile privacy policy says the iOS app uses SocialAPI to retrieve publicly available profile, follower, and following information for lookups. FollowSpy describes this data path. Reviewing these lists can help you understand what is publicly presented, but it does not grant access to private profiles or private activity. Details are in the FollowSpy mobile Privacy Policy.
Check whether the list is complete enough for your purpose before drawing conclusions. A partial list, a stale cache, or pagination limit can change what you see. Do not copy, export, or redistribute usernames beyond what is lawful and necessary for your stated purpose.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute6. Observe public profile growth trends where available
If the service presents follower or following information at different times, compare the displayed values as snapshots. A dated series may help you see a broad direction, such as whether a public creator appears to be gaining or losing followers over several checks. It does not establish exactly when each change occurred or explain why. A spike could reflect a post, a mention, a campaign, spam cleanup, or a display error.
Treat this as an editorial workflow suggestion; FollowSpy’s product descriptions do not describe a dedicated trend-analysis feature. Use the same profile, interval, and notation each time, and label estimates as estimates. Native Instagram account-owner analytics may provide context that a third-party public lookup cannot, but no direct feature-for-feature comparison is established here.
7. Use public-story viewing within its stated limits
FollowSpy’s homepage advertises public-story viewing. Limit any use to stories the service makes available from public profiles, and do not interpret access as permission to bypass privacy settings, view private-account content, or evade a user’s controls. FollowSpy does not guarantee story availability, timing, or display.
Stories are temporary, so note the date and time if you need an audit trail. Do not save or share story content unless you have a lawful, legitimate reason and the necessary permission. Viewing a public story does not prove that the account owner saw your content, visited your profile, or consented to further monitoring.
8. Keep dated notes and treat results as provisional
For any legitimate review, keep a minimal log: the public profile, the date and time with time zone, what FollowSpy displayed, and what changed from your prior observation. Mark each entry as provisional. This note-taking method is a workflow suggestion, not a feature FollowSpy separately confirms, and should never become a personal surveillance file used for harassment or stalking.
Rank #3
Set a deletion date for notes you no longer need. Store only the minimum information, avoid passwords and private messages, and restrict access if the notes relate to a client or workplace. If you cannot explain a lawful purpose for retaining an entry, do not retain it.
Privacy, credentials, and responsible use
FollowSpy has separate privacy policies for its website and its iOS app, so disclosures depend on which surface you use. The website policy describes collection of browser and device information, usage data, optional account details, and support information; it says the site does not collect Instagram credentials or access tokens. Read the website Privacy Policy for its stated practices, including cookies used for session management, analytics, and performance.
For the iOS app, FollowSpy’s mobile policy, last updated August 20, 2026, says searched public usernames are sent to SocialAPI for lookups and that the app does not collect Instagram login credentials. The same policy says search and usage data may be retained for up to 24 months. It describes service providers including RevenueCat and AppsFlyer and says advertising-attribution information may be shared with Meta, Google, and TikTok when tracking permission is granted. FollowSpy’s policy makes these statements about its practices.
The mobile policy also explains that subscriptions are purchased through Apple and that deleting an account does not itself cancel an App Store subscription. Check Apple’s subscription controls separately if you stop using the app. The App Store listing is another place to review current listing details, permissions, and disclosures.
Never give an Instagram password to a follower-tracking site. In a July 27, 2022 Newsroom post, Meta advised that people should enter Facebook or Instagram passwords only on official Facebook or Instagram websites and apps, or through an authorized “Login with Facebook” option. FollowSpy’s stated approach for its iOS lookups is to use public usernames rather than Instagram credentials; verify what a service asks you for before using it. See Meta’s guidance on clone sites.
FollowSpy’s Terms of Service, last updated July 25, 2025, require lawful, personal, non-commercial use. They prohibit harassment, stalking, violating privacy rights, unauthorized automation, circumventing technical limits, and collecting or analyzing data in violation of platform terms. The terms also reserve the right to restrict access and state, “We do not guarantee accuracy of any data retrieved or displayed.” They add that FollowSpy is not affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram, Meta Platforms Inc., or any third-party platform. FollowSpy’s terms state these contractual rules; they do not establish Instagram’s current technical limits or terms.
How to compare FollowSpy with other options
Compare tools on practical points rather than marketing labels. First, ask whether the tool covers public profiles only or gives an account owner analytics for an account they control. Second, check whether it requests Instagram credentials, tokens, or only a public username. Third, identify the stated data provider: FollowSpy’s mobile policy names SocialAPI for public-profile, follower, and following lookups.

Also compare retention and sharing disclosures, whether results are described as snapshots or real-time, and whether accuracy has been independently substantiated. There is no independent accuracy testing, verified completeness rate, or authoritative Instagram statement confirming current third-party tracking limits. There is also no established current FollowSpy pricing, commissions, referral programs, or an affiliate offer, so do not assume that a free lookup, subscription price, or referral payment exists without checking the current service terms.

Bottom line
FollowSpy can be used as a cautious way to organize observations about public Instagram profiles: recent follows, newly listed followers, apparent unfollows, public lists, broad changes, and public stories. Its own terms make accuracy no guarantee, and its privacy policies describe different practices for the website and iOS app. Use a public username instead of credentials, keep dated notes minimal, respect platform and privacy rules, and never present a tracker result as proof of another person’s private behavior.
