Choose Floorp if you want Firefox-based browsing with built-in workspaces, split view, web panels and extensive interface customization. Choose LibreWolf if privacy-oriented defaults matter more to you and you are prepared to install updates yourself and make site exceptions when needed. Neither browser is a universal winner, and neither makes you anonymous or hides your public IP address.

These are different priorities, not a measured ranking. No representative speed benchmark, broad compatibility study or extension-by-extension comparison establishes a performance or compatibility winner.
What does Floorp offer?
Floorp is an open-source browser built on Firefox. Its official feature page highlights tools that change how you use the browser day to day:
- Workspaces group tabs by task or context.
- Split view lets you display up to four pages together.
- Web panels keep selected sites alongside the active page.
- Customization includes interface adjustments, mouse gestures and web apps.
Floorp lists Windows, macOS and Linux on its official site. The site’s comparison snapshot is dated July 29, 2026 and identifies Floorp 12.16.4 for that comparison; that snapshot should not be treated as a current release number. See Floorp’s feature and platform information.

#1 Best Overall
Floorp privacy and network activity
Floorp’s privacy policy, last updated September 7, 2026, says Mozilla telemetry and health-report uploads are disabled by default in the desktop configuration. That does not mean the browser makes no network connections: enabled services can contact Floorp, Mozilla or distribution providers for updates, configuration, security or compatibility information, and extensions. Those providers may receive connection details such as your IP address, request time, browser or operating-system information, and the requested resource. Floorp Privacy Policy.
History, bookmarks, passwords, autofill, cookies, settings, workspaces and feature data are stored in the desktop browser profile. Mozilla Sync is optional. When enabled, record contents are encrypted end-to-end on your device; account and service metadata are separate from that encrypted content. Review the policy and Sync settings if you want to understand what is stored locally and what you choose to sync.
What does LibreWolf offer?
LibreWolf is an independent custom build of Firefox. The project describes it as focused on privacy, security and freedom, and says it aims to limit tracking and fingerprinting, remove telemetry and data collection, and include uBlock Origin. These are project descriptions, not an independent audit or a guarantee that every form of tracking is blocked. LibreWolf project overview.
Understand the privacy trade-offs
LibreWolf’s FAQ describes strict Enhanced Tracking Protection, including dFPI, and recommends whitelisting a site if it does not work as expected. Its FAQ also says Safe Browsing is disabled by default; users who want that additional protection can enable it. Whether a particular setting causes trouble depends on the site and your use, and no broad breakage rate is established. LibreWolf FAQ.

Choose Floorp for built-in workflow tools
Floorp is the clearer fit if you expect to use workspaces, compare pages in split view, keep sites in web panels or tailor the interface. Those features are specifically documented by the project; this is not evidence that LibreWolf lacks every comparable Firefox capability.
Choose LibreWolf for privacy-oriented defaults
LibreWolf is a natural fit if you want its project-described privacy settings, included content blocker and telemetry-removal approach, and you are willing to manage updates and allow exceptions for sites that need them. “Privacy-oriented” does not mean untrackable, invulnerable or anonymous.
Check your update habits and essential sites
Updates matter whichever browser you choose. LibreWolf says it generally follows Firefox stable within three days, sometimes on the same day, but does not update itself; you must rely on your package manager or install updates. Floorp 12 follows Firefox Rapid Release, but no comparable measured lag is established here. In either case, use a trusted installation route for your operating system and apply browser updates promptly.

The available platform information does not establish a complete, comparable operating-system and architecture matrix for both browsers, so verify current support and trusted packages for your specific device.
What to know before moving to Floorp 12
Floorp’s October 27, 2025 upgrade FAQ says Floorp 11 and 12 use different codebases and are not fully compatible. The project made the upgrade mandatory because Floorp 11’s Firefox ESR 128 base had reached end of life and was no longer receiving Mozilla security fixes. It warned that some users might need to reconfigure settings and add-ons, and that tabs or settings might not carry over. Back up important profile data before a major browser migration, then check the project’s upgrade guidance. Read the Floorp 12 Upgrade FAQ.
Quick Recap
How to make the final choice
- Pick Floorp if its built-in workspace and page-layout features solve a real part of your browsing routine.
- Pick LibreWolf if its privacy-oriented defaults are your priority and you will keep it updated manually or through your package manager.
- For either browser, test your important sites and extensions rather than assuming there is a universal compatibility or speed winner.
- If anonymity or hiding your public IP is the goal, neither browser is the answer.
