Fizz is a stronger fit if you want a customizable prepaid plan, data rollover and an eligible trial; Public Mobile is worth comparing if you prefer fixed data tiers, TELUS-powered coverage or a Canada–U.S.–Mexico plan. Neither is a universal winner. Check availability and coverage where you live and travel, then compare the live checkout price and terms for the features you actually need.

Which network and coverage should you choose?
Compare service at your actual home, workplace and regular travel routes rather than choosing by brand name alone. Fizz separates its subscription area—where you must live to sign up—from the coverage included in your plan. Its provincial option does not include mobile data across all of Canada; a Canada-wide or Canada–U.S. option changes the included footprint. Check the Fizz coverage map and the selected plan’s terms.

Fizz says phones connect to its network first and may use partner coverage when Fizz is unavailable. Partner access is intended for occasional use, with most usage expected in the subscription area. The provider says it may restrict or suspend extended coverage after three consecutive billing periods in which usage is primarily outside that area. This makes Fizz’s coverage rules especially important if you spend long stretches outside your home region.

Public Mobile describes its 5G network as powered by TELUS and provides a coverage map. Its coverage page claims 99% of Canada is covered; that is Public Mobile’s own claim, with no year stated on the accessed page, not an independent comparison with Fizz. Maps cannot guarantee reception inside every building or along every route, and the available evidence does not establish that either brand is faster everywhere.

Which plan covers the U.S. or Mexico?
Fizz offers provincial, Canada-wide and Canada–U.S. plan coverage. Public Mobile listings include Canada-wide and Canada–U.S.–Mexico offers. These are different footprints, so compare the destinations and services named in the specific plan—not just the country labels. Check whether calls, texts and data are included where you will use them, and read the current terms before switching. Fizz coverage details · Public Mobile plan listings
How do data rollover, gifting and points compare?
Fizz: rollover and gifting
Fizz says eligible unused data from a current plan rolls over for use during the following two months. Add-ons, gifted data and some My Rewards data are excluded from that rollover treatment, and you need an active plan to use rollover data. Fizz also permits gifting eligible data from the current cycle under its stated conditions. See the rollover and gifting terms for the details.

Public Mobile: Public Points
Public Mobile lists Public Points earned as a subscriber, which can be used toward monthly payments or add-ons. A listed 2% points offer is not automatically the same as a cash discount: value depends on the current earning and redemption rules. Check the plan page and points terms before factoring rewards into the cost. Public Mobile plans
What do the plans cost?
There is no reliable single price comparison without choosing the same coverage area, data allowance and features. Fizz’s price is assembled from selected plan options, while Public Mobile lists fixed tiers and may run promotions. Public Mobile’s official listings accessed on October 7, 2026 included, for example, a $35-per-month, 50 GB Canada-wide 5G offer, alongside other Canada-wide and Canada–U.S.–Mexico offers. Other official page snapshots showed different combinations of price and allowance, so treat that figure as a dated offer example—not a guaranteed current or recurring price. Check Public Mobile’s plan listings and Fizz’s current plan options at checkout.

Can you keep your current phone?
Possibly. You do not automatically need to buy a handset to switch, but check that your existing phone is unlocked and compatible with the provider’s network. Fizz specifically requires a compatible phone that is VoLTE-certified for its service; it offers physical SIM and eSIM options. Public Mobile promotes eSIM signup. Should you try Fizz before switching?
Fizz advertises a 15-day trial using an eSIM and a small test allowance, subject to geographic and eligibility conditions. Its trial page says it is not available in Quebec. Where eligible, it can help you check service in the places you personally use while keeping your current line. It is a local, individual check—not a national network comparison. Read the trial terms to confirm availability and requirements.
Which one is right for you?
- Consider Fizz if its subscription area and coverage fit your routine, you want to tailor a prepaid plan, and rollover or eligible data gifting would be useful.
- Consider Public Mobile if a listed fixed data tier suits your usage, TELUS-powered coverage works well where you need it, or a current Canada–U.S.–Mexico offer fits your travel.
- Compare both at checkout if price is decisive: align the geography, data allowance and included features, then check the current terms and final price.
For either provider, first check your home, work and travel locations on its map; confirm eligibility and handset compatibility; then compare the live plan details. No independent head-to-head evidence here establishes a nationwide speed or reliability winner.
