Bus Simulator 27 Stuttering or Crashing: Troubleshooting Steps

Distinguish a performance drop from a repeatable crash, check platform-specific updates, and use PC settings and software checks that match the suspected cause.

Start by identifying whether Bus Simulator 27 is running unevenly or actually crashing, then match the next step to your platform, game version and likely cause. On PC, CPU, GPU and available memory can each limit performance; crashes may also depend on a specific trigger that a game update has addressed. No single setting or driver change is a universal fix.

First, separate stuttering from crashing

A frame-rate drop or uneven motion is a performance problem; a crash is the game closing, freezing, or failing at a repeatable point. The distinction matters because lowering graphics settings may help a GPU-limited frame rate, but it is not an established fix for a crash triggered by a particular action.

  • Record the platform—PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S—and the game version.
  • Note when the problem began and what happens immediately before it: a busy area, a graphics-heavy scene, a particular collision, or a specific menu or mission.
  • For a crash, write down the exact error message and whether the same steps reproduce it.
  • For PC stuttering, record the CPU, GPU, installed and available RAM, resolution, graphics settings, and game version.

The published hardware requirements and component-specific settings below apply to PC. Console players should use updates and support information for their own platform; PC driver instructions and Steam file verification do not apply to consoles.

Check the game update and the trigger before changing settings

Install the latest game update offered for the affected platform, then compare the failure with the official Bus Simulator changelog. The changelog lists version 1.17, dated October 1, 2026; its PC entry says Hotfix #10 and Update 1.17 fixed a crash when colliding with a pedestrian. That is relevant if a pedestrian collision reliably precedes the crash, but it does not establish the cause of other crashes or prove that every such failure is fixed.

Earlier changelog entries also describe other crash and stability fixes, some specific to a platform. Check the entry for your platform and version rather than applying a historical fix to a different symptom. If the problem started after an update, include that timing in a support report.

For PC stuttering, compare the system with the published requirements

The official FAQ publishes these PC specifications. They are reference points, not a promise of a particular frame rate or proof that a system meeting them will never stutter.

Specification Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 11 64-bit Windows 11 64-bit
Processor Intel Core i3-12100 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600X or better FAQ: Intel Core i7-14100KF or AMD Ryzen 5 9600X or better
Memory 16 GB RAM or more 32 GB RAM or more
Graphics Nvidia GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580 or better Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT or better
DirectX Version 12 Version 12
Available storage 20 GB 20 GB

There is a mismatch in the recommended Intel processor: the official FAQ lists Core i7-14100KF, while the Steam store listing says Core i3-14100KF. Do not treat the two as interchangeable or assume which is correct. Check the current listing for your storefront or ask official support if that distinction affects a purchase or upgrade decision.

Compare CPU, GPU and memory separately. A system that meets the listed minimums can still be limited by one component, its settings, or the scene being rendered. The Bus Simulator team wrote on September 25, 2026, that “Your weakest component determines your overall system category and is also the first place to look when performance is lower than expected.”

Change the setting that matches the likely bottleneck

Use the symptom and the developer’s performance and settings guidance to choose a diagnostic change. Change one relevant setting at a time, then revisit the same area or scenario to see whether performance changes.

If busy areas cause frame drops, test CPU load

Reduce AI Vehicle Density and Pedestrian Density first. These settings affect the simulation workload, so they are the most relevant initial tests when performance drops as traffic and pedestrians increase. A lower density may alter the scene; it is a diagnostic trade-off, not a guaranteed cure.

If graphics-heavy scenes stutter, test GPU load

If your GPU is the limiting component, try a supported DLSS mode. Begin with Quality, then try Balanced or Performance if you need more relief. You can also test a lower resolution or reduce Global Illumination, shadows, reflections, or effects. Lowering visual quality or resolution trades image detail for workload reduction; use the same scene to judge each change.

DLSS and Frame Generation do not solve a CPU bottleneck. If the slowdown tracks busy simulation scenes rather than graphics-heavy views, changing those features may not address the limiting component.

If available RAM is low, reduce competing memory use

Close unnecessary background applications and check whether available memory improves. The official FAQ recommends 32 GB RAM for its recommended PC configuration, while the developer says an upgrade may be needed when memory limits the target system category. Consider hardware only after identifying memory as the constraint; verify the computer supports the memory type and capacity before buying anything. A RAM upgrade is not a general fix for crashes.

For PC, check updates, drivers and Steam installation files

The official Steam technical-issues thread recommends operating-system updates, checking or updating drivers and relevant device-configuration software, and verifying game files when an incorrect download or installation is plausible. These are checks, not proof that outdated software or damaged files caused the problem.

  1. Apply available Windows updates, then restart the PC.
  2. Check graphics and input-device drivers, along with related configuration software where applicable; update or correct a device configuration if there is a specific reason to suspect it.
  3. If the game is installed through Steam and a download or installation problem is plausible, open Steam Library → Bus Simulator 27 → Properties → Local Files → Verify integrity of game files. Wait for verification to finish before launching the game again.

Use the verification step for the Steam installation; it is not a console troubleshooting option.

When the problem persists, report a reproducible case

If the game still stutters or crashes after the relevant checks, send the official support or bug-report channel enough detail to distinguish your case from other failures. Include:

  • Platform and game version.
  • For PC: CPU, GPU, installed and available RAM, resolution, and graphics settings.
  • Whether the symptom is stuttering, a freeze, or a full crash, plus the exact error text if shown.
  • The steps and in-game action that reproduce it, and whether it happens consistently.
  • When the issue began and whether it followed a particular update.

The official Bus Simulator support page is the route to report a remaining issue. The published guidance does not establish one verified fix for every individual case, so a clear trigger and platform-specific version are more useful than applying unrelated tweaks.
