If YouTube Live keeps disconnecting while your Windows PC is online through an Indian mobile hotspot, first find out whether the failure is in the PC’s encoder or the upload path. Check Live Control Room’s timestamped stream-health messages, compare the encoder’s outgoing bitrate with stable upload speed at the broadcast location, then lower the stream’s demands and test again in an unlisted rehearsal. A fast download result does not show that a hotspot can sustain a live upload.
Find out what is disconnecting
Before changing Windows or buying equipment, note the time of each drop and inspect the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube’s Live Dashboard checks the stream being sent to YouTube and displays timestamped health messages; red messages indicate critical errors and yellow messages indicate moderate errors. Compare the timestamps with the encoder’s status and bitrate to see whether the encoder stopped sending, YouTube reported an ingestion problem, or the stream remained healthy while a viewer had playback trouble. See YouTube’s live-stream error messages guidance.

This distinction matters: a viewer’s playback issue is not necessarily a disconnect from the encoder, and a healthy-looking local preview does not prove that the mobile upload is reaching YouTube reliably.
Separate an encoder problem from a hotspot upload problem
Check the PC and encoder first
- Watch the encoder’s local preview and listen for audio faults.
- Check whether the encoder reports a dropped connection, stopped output, or encoding error at the same time as the YouTube alert.
- Review CPU load and update the encoder software. High load or poor local output points toward the PC, encoder, or source rather than proving a network fault.
- If the encoder saves a local recording, inspect the section around the disconnect. A clean local file alongside a failed YouTube stream is a useful clue, not a definitive diagnosis.
Test the outbound connection
If the local picture and sound are healthy while YouTube’s incoming stream fails, measure upload speed where the PC and phone will actually be during the broadcast. Repeat the test at the time of day you plan to stream: a single result, especially a download result, cannot establish sustained upload capacity. In this setup, the mobile operator provides the phone’s cellular internet connection, but the symptoms alone do not identify a carrier fault.

YouTube recommends Ethernet for streaming from a computer and advises leaving about 20% of outbound bandwidth unused beyond the total stream bitrate. That recommendation is useful if you have separate wired broadband to test; an Ethernet cable between the PC and a phone hotspot does not repair the phone’s cellular connection to the network. See YouTube’s connection guidance.
Choose a bitrate the hotspot can sustain
For H.264, YouTube’s current help guidance lists these recommended video bitrates. Its minimum recommendations are lower, but a minimum is not a promise of stability on a variable cellular link. The values below are platform recommendations, not measurements of what an Indian hotspot will deliver.

| Output format | YouTube-recommended video bitrate | YouTube-listed minimum video bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
Use the encoder’s total outbound bitrate when judging headroom—not just its video bitrate. Audio and any backup stream also use bandwidth. YouTube recommends keeping about 20% of outbound capacity free beyond the primary stream and backup stream, if one is running. For example, a 6 Mbps primary stream needs roughly 7.5 Mbps of stable outbound capacity to retain that 20% margin; a backup stream increases the total to account for. If upload fluctuates below the needed level, lower resolution, frame rate, and bitrate rather than relying on a brief speed-test peak. YouTube’s recommendations are in its live encoder settings guidance.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Use constant bitrate and a short keyframe interval
YouTube lists constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval as recommended settings; the keyframe interval should not exceed four seconds. Set these in the encoder’s output or streaming settings, then verify the actual outgoing bitrate and stream health during a test rather than assuming that a selected preset is being sustained. YouTube’s full recommendations are at YouTube Help: live encoder settings.

Apply changes in an unlisted rehearsal
- In the encoder, reduce the output to a lower resolution or frame rate if the hotspot cannot hold the current bitrate with headroom. For example, test 720p30 instead of 1080p60; select a bitrate suitable for the chosen format and stable upload.
- Set constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval, keeping it at or below four seconds.
- Start an unlisted YouTube stream well before the public event. Use representative motion and audio, because a static screen may not expose encoding or bandwidth problems.
- Check the local preview, the encoder’s outgoing status, and Live Control Room’s timestamped health messages throughout the test. If you use backup encoding, verify that failover actually works.
- If the stream drops again, record the time and message, then compare it with the encoder status and upload measurements. Change one relevant setting at a time so the next rehearsal can tell you what helped.
YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend starting early and checking the stream before an event; its encoder settings page covers bitrate and format recommendations.
Compare another internet path if you have one
If separate wired broadband is available, connect the PC to its router by Ethernet and repeat the same unlisted test with the same encoder settings. If that route is stable while the phone hotspot is not, the comparison implicates the hotspot or cellular path, but it does not identify the exact cause. If the phone hotspot is the only internet access available, an Ethernet cable to the phone is not a cure for cellular instability. YouTube’s recommendation to use Ethernet for computer streams applies when a suitable wired internet connection is available.

Common causes and practical fixes
| What you observe | What it may indicate | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Local preview is healthy, but Live Control Room reports an incoming-stream or connection error | Outbound upload instability is plausible; this does not prove the cellular network is the only cause. | Measure upload at the broadcast location and time, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and lower the output bitrate or format if needed. |
| Local preview is poor, encoder output stops, or CPU load is high | Encoder, source, or PC workload may be involved. | Check encoder status and CPU load, update the encoder, and inspect any local recording before changing network hardware. |
| Speed test shows strong download but the stream still drops | Download speed does not establish sustained outbound capacity. | Run repeated upload tests at the stream location and compare stable results with the total outgoing bitrate. |
| Ethernet test is stable but hotspot test is not | The route through the hotspot or cellular network may be contributing; the comparison does not pinpoint why. | Use the stable separate broadband connection if available, or lower stream demands and retest on the hotspot. |
| Only a viewer reports buffering while Live Control Room remains healthy | The encoder-to-YouTube feed may be intact; the viewer’s playback path could differ. | Check another viewer or playback device and avoid treating one viewer’s buffering as proof that the encoder disconnected. |
The available YouTube guidance does not establish a universal Windows adapter setting, a fault with any particular Indian carrier, or a guaranteed hotspot accessory fix. Avoid changing unrelated network settings or buying a signal booster on the assumption that it will solve a disconnect.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream rather than broadcast a live camera or desktop, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. It is for uploaded-video streams to YouTube, not camera broadcasts. Start a free StreamNeo day.
