How to Use Streamlabs Collab Cam in Streamlabs Desktop

Use Streamlabs Collab Cam to invite a remote guest or connect a phone as another camera angle, then preview the feed before showing it on stream.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

To use Collab Cam, add it as a source in Streamlabs Desktop, start it to create an invite link, and have a guest—or a camera device you control—open that link. Check the incoming feed, then select Show on Stream when you are ready for viewers to see it.

What you need before you start

  • Streamlabs Desktop on Windows 10 or later, or macOS 12 or later, as listed on Streamlabs’ current Collab Cam page.
  • A guest device with a camera, internet connection and browser access. A special app is not required according to Streamlabs’ Collab Cam support guide.
  • For a phone used as a second angle, a stable place to position it. A tripod is convenient but optional; Streamlabs also suggests propping a phone against books in its mobile-device guide.

Streamlabs recommends Ethernet and cites 3.6 Mbps or better upload for 720p at 30 fps for most platforms in its system requirements article. That is general live-streaming guidance, not a Collab Cam-specific speed threshold or performance guarantee.

Add a guest or second camera

  1. Open Streamlabs Desktop and find the Sources panel.
  2. Select the add-source control, choose Collab Cam, and add the source.
  3. Open the Collab Cam source and click Start Collab Cam.
  4. Copy the generated invite link and send it privately to your guest. The same link flow works if you are connecting your own phone or tablet as another camera.
  5. On the joining device, open the link in a browser, allow camera and microphone access if prompted, and join.
  6. Check the incoming feed in Streamlabs Desktop. When its framing and content are ready for viewers, select Show on Stream.

Keep the preview private until you are ready to show the feed; joining the session and showing it on stream are separate steps.

Choose the right setup for your use

Setup Who operates the camera What to check
Remote guest Your guest Confirm the guest can be heard by the audience, not just by you, before featuring the feed.
Phone or tablet as another angle You, or someone helping you Choose the camera on the device, set a stable position, then check framing in Desktop.

If one extra angle is all you need, either setup follows the same invite-link process. Consider who will manage camera placement and whether the audience needs to hear a remote participant when deciding which to use.

Guest limits and platform rules

Streamlabs’ current Collab Cam product page lists one free guest and up to 11 additional guests or camera angles with Streamlabs Ultra. Its Desktop support guide gives an older, conflicting Ultra limit of four guests. Use the current product page as the published figure, and check the plan screen before buying if the precise paid capacity affects your decision.

Guests remain subject to the rules of the platform where you stream. Agree on what is suitable to show or say before going live, and check that any music, video or other material in the guest’s feed is permitted for your stream.

Protect the invite link and check audio

  • Send the invite only to people you trust. If the link may have been exposed, generate a new one to invalidate the old link.
  • If configuring Collab Cam while live, do not reveal the invite link in a screen share.
  • Listen to a test recording or ask a viewer to confirm guest audio reaches the audience. Streamlabs notes that a host may hear a guest when the audience cannot; one suggested possible fix is adding an extra microphone source. This is a troubleshooting suggestion, not a complete diagnosis.

Troubleshooting common setup problems

The guest cannot join

Check that you started Collab Cam and sent the generated link, then have the guest open it in a browser and grant camera or microphone permissions if requested. Confirm the joining device has a camera and internet access. Streamlabs does not publish an exhaustive browser-compatibility list or a Collab Cam-specific connection threshold, so results may vary by device and connection.

The feed is visible to you but not viewers

In the Collab Cam source, review the incoming preview and select Show on Stream. Seeing the guest in the setup preview does not by itself put that feed on the live output.

You hear the guest but viewers do not

Check the stream output with a test recording or viewer confirmation. Streamlabs suggests trying an extra microphone source for this narrow audio-routing issue; also verify the intended audio source is included in your Desktop scene and output.

The invite may have leaked

Generate a new invite link and share the replacement privately. Do not expose it during a live screen share.
