Fix XSplit Broadcaster Media Files Showing Offline After Moving to Another PC

Relink each offline XSplit media source on the destination PC, then use separate playback troubleshooting if a correctly linked source appears black.

If XSplit Broadcaster media sources show offline after you move to another PC, make the original files available on the new computer, then relink each affected source through its properties. XSplit’s documented instructions describe changing the file for an individual source, not a bulk relink. If a correctly relinked source instead appears black, troubleshoot playback separately.

Relink offline media sources on the new PC

XSplit media sources point to files selected on a computer. Moving a presentation does not, by itself, make those image, video, or audio files available on the destination PC. XSplit’s Image, Video, and Audio Source instructions explain how to change the file linked to a source.

  1. Make the media files available on the destination PC. Copy or otherwise transfer the original images, videos, and audio files. Keeping recognizable filenames and a stable folder structure can make them easier to identify. A portable external SSD is one optional way to carry a group of files; it does not relink sources automatically.
  2. Open the XSplit presentation and find the sources marked offline.
  3. Open the affected source’s properties. Right-click the source and choose the option that opens its properties.
  4. Select the replacement file. In the properties window, use the Media Source control to browse to the corresponding file on the new PC.
  5. Check the source in the scene. Confirm that it displays as expected, then repeat these steps for each offline source.

XSplit’s instructions document changing the media file for a source; they do not describe a bulk relink tool. Plan to update affected sources individually.

Presentation transfer and media transfer are separate

XSplit’s Presentation Switcher documentation describes importing and exporting presentations, but labels the feature as available only in the Public Beta release. It does not establish that external media files are packaged inside an exported presentation. Unless the version you use explicitly documents that behavior, transfer the presentation and its media files as separate items.

Sandisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD, Up to 1050MB/s, USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2, IP65 Water and Dust Resistance, Updated Firmware, External Solid State Drive, SDSSDE61-2T00-G25
  • Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
  • Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
  • Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
  • Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
  • Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C

XSplit lists common image, video, and audio formats, including PNG, JPG, GIF, WEBP, TIFF, MP4, FLV, WEBM, and MP3, in its source instructions. That list is not a guarantee that every format will play identically on every computer.

If the relinked source displays black

An offline source and a black source are different problems. First confirm that the intended file is selected and available on the new PC. If the source is linked but renders black, XSplit’s separate black-source troubleshooting article recommends trying the following video-processing settings:

Sandisk 1TB Portable SSD, Up to 800MB/s Read Speeds, Black (Old Model)
  • Solid state performance with up to 800MB/s read speeds in a portable drive. (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device, interface, usage conditions and other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
  • Back up your content and memories on a storage solution that fits seamlessly into your mobile lifestyle.
  • Take it with you on your adventures—up to two-meter drop protection means this durable drive can take a beating. (Based on internal testing.)
  • Secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind thanks to the tough rubber hook.
  • From Sandisk, a brand professional photographers trust to take on assignments.
  • Change Advanced video processing mode to Prefer GPU.
  • If the option is available, disable Use Media Foundation Engine for video playback.

These steps address playback or display behavior; they do not repair a missing file link. Also confirm that the selected file plays on the destination PC. XSplit’s December 2024 release notes identify Broadcaster version 4.5.2412.0304 and mention fixes for certain media playback issues, including a GPU-mode failure with specific files. That is historical release information, not evidence of a migration fix in your current version: XSplit Broadcaster December 2024 release notes.

What moving to another PC does not guarantee

XSplit’s infrastructure FAQ says scenes, sources, and settings stay on a user’s device during its infrastructure transition. That statement concerns persistence on the device; it does not establish that media files or settings transfer automatically to a different computer. The FAQ, updated September 5, 2025, also gives legacy-version guidance for licenses created before September 3, 2025. Check the current infrastructure FAQ and your account details before acting on version advice.

  • Capacity Display Variance: 500GB external ssd often appears as around 465GB on Windows. MacOS can show full 500 GB capacity. This is binary calculation difference and doesn’t affect SSD hard drive actual physical storage
  • 1050 MB/s Speed: Instantly access to your files with blazing-fast 10Gbps external SSD read up to 1050MB/s and write up to 1000MB/s. LED Light indicates USB SSD instant activity
  • Data Security: Solid state drives S.M.A.R.T. health diagnostics and adaptive TRIM optimizing data block management ensures consistent write speeds and extends the longevity of the portable SSD
  • USB-C & USB-A Cable: Both cables featuring rapid USB 3.2 Gen2, this USB SSD effortlessly bridges devices, enabling seamless cross-platform file transfers and backup between computers, smartphones, tablets and iPhone
  • Always Fast: No slowdowns for large file transfers. With SLC caching (25% of current available capacity allocated as high-speed cache), this external SSD delivers steady 10Gbps for transfers within the cache capacity

XSplit’s cited documentation does not specify whether source paths are stored as absolute paths, relative paths, or another format. It also does not confirm that exported presentations package external media or provide a documented mass-relink workflow, so do not rely on those behaviors unless your installed version explicitly explains them.
