Why content can be missing from a full-page screenshot
Some pages load or render content in response to scrolling. A screenshot can capture the full document extent without first reproducing the visitor behavior that causes that content to appear. Puppeteer documents fullPage as a screenshot option, while scrolling and page evaluation are separate APIs. See the screenshot options reference.

First determine which of three cases applies: the content has not been inserted into the DOM, it exists but is hidden, or it is present and visible but outside the screenshot’s capture extent. Use page evaluation to inspect the document and check the target selector or text before changing the capture settings.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsScroll, wait for the right signal, verify, then capture
- Navigate to the page. The example below waits for
domcontentloadedbefore starting. This is a navigation milestone, not proof that later dynamic content is ready. - Trigger the relevant scroll behavior. Scroll the main document if the page listens to window scrolling. If the content is inside a nested scroll container, scroll that container instead.
- Wait for a meaningful readiness condition. Prefer a selector or application-specific condition that indicates the desired content has arrived.
- Verify the target. Confirm that the expected selector exists and, when relevant, is visible before taking the screenshot.
- Capture the page. Use
fullPage: truewhen the output should span the full document.
Adaptable JavaScript example
This pattern is illustrative, not a tested reproduction for a particular site. Replace the URL, selector, scroll strategy, and readiness condition with ones that match your page. The fixed pause in the loop is only pacing; a page-specific signal is more robust.

const url = 'https://example.com';
await page.goto(url, { waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded' });
// For window-based scroll loading. If the page uses a nested
// scroll container, scroll that container instead.
await page.evaluate(async () => {
const step = Math.max(300, Math.floor(window.innerHeight * 0.8));
for (let y = 0; y < document.body.scrollHeight; y += step) {
window.scrollTo(0, y);
await new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, 150));
}
});
// Replace with a selector or condition that means your content is ready.
await page.waitForSelector('[data-content-ready="true"]', { timeout: 10000 });
// Check the target before capture; adapt the visibility check to the page.
const target = await page.$('[data-content-ready="true"]');
if (!target) throw new Error('Expected content was not found');
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
page.evaluate() waits for a promise returned by the page-context function, so it can await the scrolling routine. The exact scroll height and behavior vary by site; a loop based on the initial document height may need adjustment if scrolling itself expands the page.
Use a readiness signal that matches the page
If the application exposes a reliable selector, state, or completion event, wait for that rather than assuming a generic pause is sufficient. A selector wait is only useful if that selector genuinely indicates the required content is ready. Adjust the timeout to the page and environment; the example’s 10-second value is not a universal recommendation.

Choose the capture or wait method for the job
| Need | Approach | Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Capture the full document after dynamic content is ready | Trigger the needed scrolling, verify readiness, then call page.screenshot({ fullPage: true }). |
Full-page capture alone is not documented to trigger loading. |
| Capture one known element | Use ElementHandle.screenshot(). |
Puppeteer scrolls that element into view if needed, then captures it; this does not promise that other page sections have loaded. |
| Wait for network-backed content when there is no better signal | Use page.waitForNetworkIdle() or an appropriate navigation wait condition. |
Network quiet does not prove that the application rendered a particular block. |
| Wait for a known application completion state | Wait for the relevant selector or state, verify it, then capture. | The condition is specific to the site and must be chosen by the implementer. |
When to use network idle—and when not to
waitForNetworkIdle() resolves after network activity has been idle for the configured interval. Puppeteer documents a 500 ms default idleTime for its network-idle options; the networkidle0 and networkidle2 lifecycle definitions also require at least 500 ms. These are API timing definitions, not guarantees that a particular page has finished rendering. See the network-idle options reference and lifecycle event reference.
Use network idle when network-backed work is the likely blocker and the page can reach a quiet interval. Prefer an application-specific selector or state when available: a page may be network-idle before the content you need appears, or ongoing requests may prevent network idle from resolving.

Capture one element instead of the whole page
If the requirement is a single element, obtain its handle and call elementHandle.screenshot(). Puppeteer documents that this method scrolls the element into view if needed and then uses Page.screenshot() to capture it. That behavior helps with the element’s position, but it does not establish that lazy-loaded content elsewhere on the page is ready. See the ElementHandle screenshot reference.
Troubleshoot persistent missing content
- The selector is absent: the content may not have loaded or been inserted. Trigger the page’s scroll behavior and wait on a selector or state tied to the content.
- The selector exists but the screenshot looks empty: inspect whether the element is hidden, covered, or not yet rendered. Confirm visibility and page state before capture.
- Scrolling the window changes nothing: look for a nested scroll container and scroll that element. Use Puppeteer’s locator scrolling or page-context evaluation as appropriate; see the locator scroll reference.
- Network idle never resolves: the page may keep requests open or continue making requests. Prefer a specific readiness condition when one exists.
- The loop reaches the bottom but new content is still missing: scrolling may expand the document as items load, or the site may use a different trigger or application state. Recheck the target after each relevant scroll and adapt the scroll strategy.
- The content is in a frame: inspect the relevant frame and its document rather than assuming the main page context contains the target. Puppeteer exposes frame APIs; see the Frame reference.
These checks narrow the cause; no single technique guarantees success on every site. The correct scroll target and readiness condition depend on the page’s implementation.

For a screenshot without configuring Puppeteer, ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request with a URL and returns an image or PDF. Its clean-shot flow accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers.
