Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If audio matches the picture at the start of a continuous church YouTube stream but becomes increasingly early or late, first measure the mismatch at two or more elapsed times. A steady offset is different from cumulative drift: shifting audio once may address the former, but it will not fix a mismatch that keeps growing. The right correction depends on your FFmpeg command, capture devices, timestamp behavior, and logs; no single flag can be recommended for every setup.
First determine whether the problem is offset or drift
Choose a recognizable event, such as a spoken word, clap, or other sharp sound, and compare it with the corresponding image in the YouTube stream. Record whether the sound leads or trails and roughly by how much. Repeat the observation after a known amount of time. The FFmpeg Cookbook describes this distinction between a constant offset and an error that grows over time: FFmpeg: Fix Audio Drift That Gets Worse Over Time.

- About the same mismatch each time: investigate initial alignment or fixed timestamps. A one-time shift may be relevant, but measure before changing anything.
- The mismatch grows over time: investigate clock or rate mismatch, irregular capture timing, timestamp continuity, and dropped or duplicated data. A fixed shift alone cannot correct a growing error.
Note whether the direction stays consistent and whether the mismatch changes after a reconnect or source change. Do not assume the audio trails the video: it may lead instead.

Map the audio, video, and clock path
Before editing the command or buying equipment, establish where each signal comes from and how FFmpeg receives it. Separate audio and video devices can have separate clocks, but that is a diagnostic possibility—not a diagnosis of your installation.

- Everything in the box: Includes Pro Tools Intro+, Ableton Live Lite, Cubase LE, and Hitmaker Expansion: a suite of essential effects, powerful software instruments, and easy-to-use mastering tools
- Are audio and video captured by the same device or by separate devices?
- Does audio come from a mixer or interface, a camera, a USB input, or a network source?
- Which FFmpeg inputs and stream maps are used? Are streams copied, re-encoded, or handled differently?
- What sample rate and frame rate are configured? Is software resampling, buffering, or timestamp rewriting involved?
- Do the logs show missing or irregular timestamps, discontinuities, reconnects, or dropped data?
For a useful troubleshooting record, keep the full command with stream keys removed, FFmpeg version and build output, startup stream metadata, representative logs, and sync observations taken at multiple elapsed times. Do not share a live stream key in logs, screenshots, or support requests.
Check FFmpeg timestamp options against the evidence
FFmpeg’s synchronization modes and output timestamp behavior depend on the command and installed version. Its documentation describes -adrift_threshold as a minimum difference between timestamps and audio data that triggers adding or dropping samples, and notes that -async must be positive for this threshold behavior. Option scope and placement matter; check the documentation for your installed build before changing a live command. See the FFmpeg command-line documentation.

- All you need to record, mix and master your music: Includes industry-leading recording software and a full collection of record-making plugins
- Everything in the box: Includes Pro Tools Intro+, Ableton Live Lite, Cubase LE, and Hitmaker Expansion: a suite of essential effects, powerful software instruments, and easy-to-use mastering tools
-dts_delta_threshold is for detected timestamp discontinuities: FFmpeg adjusts timestamps when a jump exceeds the threshold. The documented correction applies to formats that allow discontinuities, including MPEG-TS and HLS. FFmpeg disables it with -copyts, except when timestamp wrapping is detected. It is not a universal correction for clock drift. Use it only if the input format and logs support that diagnosis.
FFmpeg’s online documentation is regenerated nightly and describes the newest revision. If your installation uses an older build, consult documentation corresponding to that version; the FFmpeg documentation index explains the version distinction.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Verify YouTube’s ingest baseline and monitor the real stream
YouTube’s current live encoder settings guidance gives an ingest baseline, not a diagnosis for accumulating sync error.
| Setting | YouTube guidance |
|---|---|
| Protocol | RTMP or RTMPS |
| Video codec | H.264, H.265, or AV1 |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 |
| Rate control | CBR |
| Frame rate | Up to 60 fps |
| Keyframe interval | Two seconds recommended; no more than four seconds |
| Stereo audio sample rate | 44.1 kHz |
Check that your actual output matches the settings you intend to use. Meeting these recommendations does not by itself explain why audio and video drift apart.

Before a service, YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream, then monitoring stream health and messages. Its live-streaming tips also advise ongoing audio/video quality monitoring and checking that the local archive file grows. Test representative speech and music or instrumental sections; watch the YouTube preview/player as well as FFmpeg’s local output.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesMake one controlled change, then remeasure
- Save the current command and logs, and record the initial and later sync observations.
- Choose one change that follows from the evidence—for example, a demonstrated timestamp discontinuity or an identified capture-rate issue. Do not change several unrelated options at once.
- Test in a representative stream and repeat the same sync observations after comparable elapsed time.
- Keep the revised command and logs so you can tell whether the change improved, worsened, or did not affect the drift.
The exact correction remains unknown until the particular command, signal chain, and measurements are examined. Replacing an interface, capture device, or other hardware before isolating the cause is guesswork.
