If YouTube says your live encoder is sending the wrong audio sample rate, first check whether the outgoing audio is stereo or 5.1 surround. YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz for stereo and 48 kHz for 5.1 surround. If you use primary and backup feeds, make sure both send the same rate. The channel’s Tamil content and 24/7 schedule do not, by themselves, identify the cause.
Identify the exact warning before changing settings
YouTube reports audio sample-rate configuration problems and primary/backup sample-rate mismatches as separate issues. Read the full message in YouTube’s stream health or configuration status so you know which check to make. The LiveStreams API reference and configuration issue documentation describe these warnings.

- A sample-rate warning means you should compare the rate being sent with the recommendation for your channel layout.
- A primary/backup mismatch means you should compare the two feeds and align their audio sample rates.
Match the sample rate to your channel layout
| Outgoing channel layout | YouTube recommended sample rate | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Stereo | 44.1 kHz | Confirm the encoder’s outgoing audio is stereo and set to the recommended rate. |
| 5.1 surround | 48 kHz | Confirm the encoder is actually sending 5.1 and set to the recommended rate. |
YouTube’s encoder settings guidance gives these channel-specific recommendations. Neither rate is universally correct: use the recommendation for the format you are sending, and verify the encoder output rather than relying only on the source file’s properties.
Check the encoder and audio devices
- Open the encoder’s audio settings. Find its sampling-rate control and verify the configured output rate. In OBS Studio, go to Settings → Audio; OBS identifies sampling rate as an audio setting in its overview guide.
- Verify the selected devices. In OBS, confirm that the intended audio input devices are selected under Settings → Audio. A different selected device or audio path can mean the encoder is not using the configuration you expected.
- Confirm the channel layout and emitted rate. Check that the encoder output is stereo or 5.1 as intended, and that its actual outgoing sample rate matches YouTube’s recommendation for that layout.
- If you send redundant feeds, compare both. Set the primary and backup feeds to the same sample rate. YouTube documents a warning for feeds whose rates differ.
- Test before relying on the configuration. Make a short test stream or recording, then check YouTube’s stream-health messages. OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends testing a setup.
If the warning remains
Do not assume the encoder is defective or buy replacement equipment based on this warning alone. The documented checks are configuration checks; the available details about your channel do not establish a hardware fault or a particular root cause.

Gather this information before asking your encoder vendor or audio-device support for help:
- Encoder name and version, plus your operating system.
- Whether the outgoing stream is stereo or 5.1 and the sample rate the encoder reports sending.
- The audio source device or software and the selected device in the encoder.
- The exact YouTube stream-health message.
- Whether a backup feed is active, and the sample rate configured for each feed.
The fact that the channel carries Tamil content does not change the cited sample-rate recommendations. The 24/7 schedule also does not establish a cause; it simply makes a short test before returning to normal operation especially prudent.
