Test the apps on another Wi-Fi network, check whether another device can use the original network, and review each app’s allowed network setting before changing broader connection settings.
First, identify where the failure occurs
A Wi-Fi icon means the Galaxy joined an access point; it does not confirm that every app can reach its service. Note which apps fail, what error appears, and whether those same apps work on mobile data. Then make two comparisons:

- Try the affected apps on another Wi-Fi network.
- Try another device on the Wi-Fi network where the Galaxy has trouble.
If several devices have trouble on the same Wi-Fi, investigate the router or internet service first. If the problem follows the Galaxy across networks, focus on its app settings, VPN or DNS configuration, and software. These comparisons help narrow the cause; they do not prove it on their own. Samsung also recommends distinguishing between failure to join Wi-Fi and being connected without network access in its Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance, updated September 17, 2026.

Check whether the affected apps are allowed to use Wi-Fi
Galaxy phones have an Allowed networks for apps setting. An app may be configured to use mobile data even when the phone is connected to Wi-Fi, which makes this a useful check when only selected apps fail or work on mobile data.

- Open Settings → Connections → Data usage → Allowed networks for apps.
- Select each affected app.
- Choose an option that permits Wi-Fi, or both Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Open the app again and test it on Wi-Fi.
Menu names and availability can vary by Galaxy model and software version. Samsung describes this setting in its connection options guide.
Test VPNs and network-filtering apps
If a VPN, ad filter, firewall, parental-control app, or work profile is active, briefly disconnect it and retry one affected app. Treat this as a controlled comparison, not an assumption that the service is at fault. If the app works after the change, review the VPN or filtering tool’s app-routing and filtering rules. For a managed work profile, ask the administrator before changing its configuration. Samsung identifies VPN as a Galaxy connection option and directs VPN-specific issues to the relevant provider in its connection options guidance.

Review Private DNS without turning off protection by default
Check Settings → Connections → More connection settings → Private DNS; the path or wording may differ. If a custom provider hostname is set, write it down before making any change. You can compare with the network or device default, or ask the DNS provider whether its configuration is working.

If you temporarily change Private DNS as a test, restore the original setting if the result does not help. Google recommends keeping Private DNS turned on; its Android advanced network settings help explains the setting.

Try basic phone and Wi-Fi checks
- Restart the Galaxy and the router or modem. Retest the affected app after both are back online.
- Forget and rejoin the Wi-Fi network. Reconnect using the correct password.
- Install available device software updates. Then check whether the affected apps still fail.
If the issue began after installing an app, use Safe mode to check whether a downloaded app may be interfering. Test Wi-Fi while in Safe mode. If it works there, review recently installed apps and remove only apps you do not need or have identified as a likely cause. Safe mode is a clue, not proof of which app is responsible. Samsung includes these checks in its Galaxy Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide.
Reset network settings only after simpler checks
On many Galaxy devices, the reset options are under Settings → General management → Reset. Depending on the model and software, the option may be called Reset network settings or Reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings. Read the on-screen description before confirming. Saved Wi-Fi details and Bluetooth connections may be cleared, so you may need to enter Wi-Fi passwords again and pair Bluetooth devices again. Samsung outlines reset steps in its Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance.

Choose the right support path
- Several devices fail on the same Wi-Fi: Contact your internet provider or router manufacturer. If the router is not detected or cannot be updated, Samsung also advises checking with the router manufacturer.
- One app fails across Wi-Fi networks: Check that app’s update and compatibility information, then contact its developer. If the issue is that the app cannot be updated or installed, Samsung has separate guidance for Galaxy app update and installation problems.
- Several apps fail only on this Galaxy after the checks above: Use Samsung Members diagnostics or contact Samsung support.
The comparison tests determine which path is most relevant; there is no single escalation threshold that applies to every Galaxy model, app, and network.
