Then try Photographic Styles, post-capture video effects, and the redesigned Dynamic Island. Apple announced iPhone 18 Pro on September 9, 2026, with availability beginning September 18; the capabilities below are product features, not independent test findings.
1. Compare the main camera’s four aperture settings
The 48MP Fusion Main camera has four selectable aperture settings: ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8, and ƒ/4.0. Apple says the camera can adjust aperture automatically in response to lighting and depth of field, while Pro controls let you choose it manually. Apple’s launch announcement and its iPhone 18 Pro specifications list the camera capability.

Try one scene at multiple settings so you can compare the results yourself. Photograph a portrait, a group, and a dimly lit subject; notice how the depth of field and visible detail change. These are useful comparisons to make, not a guarantee that one aperture will look best in every situation.
2. Learn the Pro controls one setting at a time
Apple says the camera’s Pro controls include aperture, shutter speed, and white balance, plus a histogram for reviewing exposure. A simple way to understand them is to keep the scene and framing fixed while changing one control at a time.

- Adjust shutter speed and watch how motion and exposure change.
- Adjust white balance to see how the image’s color shifts.
- Use the histogram as an exposure reference while comparing the results.
This is an opportunity to explore the controls; it does not require a particular setting or promise a particular photographic result.
3. Shape portraits with Photographic Styles
The updated Photographic Styles controls let you adjust texture and grain and tune color and skin qualities together, according to Apple’s launch announcement. Make a portrait, then compare versions with different combinations of those controls. Saving or reviewing alternatives side by side makes it easier to decide what suits that image, rather than assuming one look is always better.

4. Try video effects after recording
Apple says you can apply Cinematic effects after capture to video shot at up to 60 fps. That gives you a reason to record a short clip and explore its available adjustments afterward. Time-lapse recording also supports 4K and Dolby Vision HDR, according to Apple’s announcement.

Tom’s Guide reports that Final Cut Camera 2.4 added support for iPhone 18 Pro’s variable-aperture lens and includes controls such as shutter angle, ISO, and white balance. See Tom’s Guide’s report on the update for details. These options are for people who want more hands-on control than the built-in video tools provide.

5. Put multiple Live Activities on the Dynamic Island
The redesigned Dynamic Island can display up to three Live Activities at once, Apple says. Try it with supported activities you already use and see which are useful to keep visible together. The limit applies to what the feature can display; it does not mean every app or activity supports the Dynamic Island.
Also try: Siri’s beta features, if available to you
Apple describes its Siri AI features as a beta rollout with more personal, conversational interactions that use personal context. Availability and behavior are not established as universal across languages and regions, so check what is offered on your device rather than assuming every announced capability is enabled for you. Apple’s announcement and specifications page describe the rollout.
