Choose Fitbit Air if you want a screen-free tracker with core health and activity monitoring in Google’s app and prefer a lower upfront purchase price. Choose WHOOP if you specifically want membership-based sleep, strain, and recovery coaching—or a higher-tier health feature you have confirmed is available to you. The biggest difference is the ongoing cost and coaching model, not a screen: neither device has one.
Fitbit Air vs. WHOOP at a glance
| What matters | Fitbit Air | WHOOP |

| How you pay | Google announced a U.S. price of $99.99 and a three-month Google Health Premium trial on May 7, 2026. Some enhanced coaching features require an ongoing Premium subscription. Check current regional pricing and terms. Google announcement | The band, app, and 24/7 monitoring are offered through membership tiers. Costs and included features depend on tier and region; check the current WHOOP membership page. |
| Main emphasis | Continuous heart-rate tracking, sleep, activity, and health metrics in the Google Health app. | Sleep, strain, recovery, stress, and coaching, with features varying by membership tier. |
| Battery claim | Google advertises up to one week; actual duration varies with settings, features, use, and other factors. | WHOOP advertises 14+ days for its 5.0 and MG tiers. |
| Charging | Google says five minutes of fast charging can provide a day of use; a USB-C charging cable is included. | WHOOP says its wireless waterproof battery pack can charge the wearable while it is being worn. |
| Phone and app | Requires the Google Health app and a compatible Android or iOS phone. | Uses WHOOP’s app and membership experience; check current phone compatibility before buying. |
These battery numbers are manufacturer claims, not results from a controlled head-to-head test. Google’s “up to one week” figure is based on testing with pre-production hardware and software and a median usage profile; the company says actual life may be lower. Google’s announcement and WHOOP’s product page describe their respective figures.

How the pricing models differ
Fitbit Air: hardware first, subscription optional
Google announced Fitbit Air at $99.99 in the U.S. on May 7, 2026, with a three-month Google Health Premium trial. That is an announcement price and launch offer, not a guarantee of today’s price or the offer in another country. After the trial, some enhanced coaching features require a paid Premium subscription; check what is currently included in the Google Health app if you plan to rely on those tools. WHOOP: membership bundles the experience
WHOOP presents its band, app, and continuous monitoring as a membership. The tiers bundle different features, so compare the current tier contents and renewal terms with the specific tools you want rather than assuming every member receives every health feature. The current offer is shown on WHOOP’s official page.
#1 Best Overall
- Google Fitbit Air is the unbelievably comfortable, exceptionally smart way to transform your health[1]; and Google Health brings together effortless tracking and adaptive coaching to help make the most of your everyday[2]
- Unlock more with Google Health Premium: With a premium membership, get personalized coaching that’s built with Gemini and adapts to your life[2]; get a 3-month trial at no cost to you[5] (Google Health Premium subscription sold separately)
- Comfortable fit - One Size Tracker (130-210 mm): The lightweight, micro-adjustable fit sits comfortably and quietly, so you can wear Google Fitbit Air through work, play, and sleep; advanced sensors and new algorithms power more accurate, precise health tracking, 24/7[1]
- Designed for every occasion: With no screen to distract you or disrupt your style, your tracker moves seamlessly from bracelet to workout band to sleep band, and you can change looks in seconds – just press the pebble in, click, and go
- Long battery life: Google Fitbit Air’s battery lasts up to a week, and fast charging gets you one day of battery life in just five minutes[6,7]
A third-party comparison published by Wareable on May 8, 2026 reported annual prices of $199 for WHOOP One and $359 for WHOOP Life. Those figures were not an official current quote, and the comparison was initially written before Fitbit Air launched. Treat them as dated reporting, not a reliable basis for your present-day budget. Wareable’s comparison
To compare fairly, add the current device cost and any subscription you actually need over the period you expect to use the tracker. If you would use Fitbit Air without Premium, its economics differ from a plan that depends on paid coaching. For WHOOP, include the membership renewal cost because it is part of the product model.

Tracking and coaching: general monitoring or recovery focus?
Fitbit Air tracks a broad set of everyday metrics
Google lists continuous heart rate, heart rhythm monitoring with AFib alerts, blood oxygen (SpO2), resting heart rate, heart-rate variability (HRV), sleep stages and duration, and automatic activity tracking. Google also describes a Health Coach experience, with some enhanced coaching features requiring Premium. Google’s announcement

This mix may suit someone who wants a screen-free tracker for daily activity, sleep, and general health trends in Google’s app. It is not the same emphasis as a system organized around daily strain and recovery coaching.

WHOOP organizes the experience around sleep, strain, and recovery
WHOOP’s membership experience centers on sleep, strain, recovery, stress, and related health insights. The current product page associates One with sleep, strain, and recovery insights and coaching; Peak adds WHOOP 5.0 and healthspan-related features; and Life adds WHOOP MG, ECG readings, and on-demand AFib detection, among other offerings. Confirm the current tier details before choosing, since the features are not universal across memberships. WHOOP’s product page
That recovery-oriented framing is most relevant if you want to use the app to interpret training load and recovery, rather than simply collect activity and sleep data. A broader or more detailed feature list does not by itself establish better accuracy or better health outcomes.

Health features are not a substitute for medical care
Both companies describe features that touch on health, but neither tracker should be treated as a diagnostic device. Google says Fitbit Air is not intended for medical purposes and notes that feature availability and eligibility vary; some users are excluded from heart-rhythm features. WHOOP describes ECG, AFib detection, and blood-pressure insights as higher-tier offerings and includes limitations and wellness-only caveats on its product page. Google’s announcement; WHOOP’s product page
If a metric or alert matters to you for a medical reason, verify the feature’s regional availability, eligibility, and intended use with the manufacturer and discuss health concerns with a qualified clinician. Google also cautions that heart-rate accuracy can be affected by physiology, device location, and movement. Google’s technical specifications

Battery, charging, and daily wear
Consider how often you want to charge
Google advertises up to a week for Fitbit Air and says a five-minute fast charge can supply a day of use. WHOOP advertises 14+ days for its 5.0 and MG tiers and says its wireless waterproof battery pack can charge the wearable while worn. These are each company’s claims for its own product, not directly comparable lab measurements; your settings and use can change Fitbit Air’s battery life. Google; WHOOP
Fit and placement can change the choice
Fitbit Air’s tracker pebble moves between Google’s Performance Loop, Active Loop, and Elevated Loop styles. Google lists wrist-size ranges and water resistance to 50 meters in its specifications. WHOOP describes modular wear options, including Body apparel, but styles and availability should be checked in its current catalog; the comparison source’s description of those options is not a guarantee of current stock. Google announcement; Google specifications; Wareable comparison
Check phone compatibility before you buy
Fitbit Air requires the Google Health app and, according to Google, a phone running Android 11 or later or iOS 16.4 or later. Its specifications also list an optical heart-rate monitor, accelerometer, gyroscope, red and infrared SpO2 sensors, and a device temperature sensor. Google’s technical specifications

Also consider which app you already use: Fitbit Air belongs to Google’s Health app experience, while WHOOP’s coaching and tier features are built around its membership and app.
Which one should you choose?
- Pick Fitbit Air if you want a screen-free daily tracker, use or want the Google Health app, value its listed heart, sleep, and activity metrics, and prefer buying the hardware without committing to a WHOOP-style membership. Decide whether the optional Premium features justify their recurring cost for you.
- Pick WHOOP if you want the product experience centered on sleep, strain, recovery, and coaching, and are comfortable paying for membership. Choose a tier only after confirming that it includes the metrics and health features you want.
- Pause before choosing either if your decision depends on a particular medical feature, app compatibility, regional offer, or alternate wearing style. Verify its availability and limitations directly with the manufacturer.
Neither is a universal upgrade over the other: Fitbit Air leans toward accessible everyday tracking in Google’s app, while WHOOP’s distinguishing case is its membership-based recovery and coaching system.
