Both Firefox and Chrome can capture a full webpage on a Mac without an extension. Firefox is the more direct choice for a quick capture: open Take Screenshot and choose Save full page. Chrome’s documented route uses DevTools Device Mode: choose More options, then Capture a full size screenshot. Neither browser is established as universally faster or more accurate; the practical difference is the workflow and controls you need.
Which browser should you choose?
Choose Firefox if you want a page-level screenshot action or need its documented DevTools screenshot command. Choose Chrome if you already use DevTools Device Mode and want its full-size capture option alongside device and viewport controls. Both are built-in options, so you can start without installing an extension.

The vendor documentation describes available workflows, not a head-to-head test. It does not establish a universal winner for speed, image fidelity, or compatibility with dynamic sites. Page behavior and browser version can affect the result.
| Need | Better starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Quick full-page capture | Firefox | The page-level action offers Save full page directly. |
| DevTools screenshot controls | Firefox | Its documented DevTools workflow includes a screenshot toolbar button and a Web Console command with options such as selector and device pixel ratio. |
| Capture in a device-emulation workflow | Chrome | Device Mode includes a Capture a full size screenshot action. |
| Copy or download from the page screenshot workflow | Firefox | Mozilla says the page-level screenshot can be copied or downloaded. |
Capture a full webpage in Firefox
Use the page-level screenshot action
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Open Take Screenshot from the page. If you do not see the action, consult Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot instructions for the current access method.
- Choose Save full page.
- Save the image or copy it, depending on how you want to use the capture.
Mozilla notes that Firefox Screenshots respects the browser’s Do Not Track setting when determining whether to collect website data.

Use Firefox DevTools for a full-page screenshot
Firefox’s DevTools screenshot toolbar button is not enabled by default. To add it:
- Open DevTools and go to Settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Use the new screenshot button in the DevTools toolbar. Firefox saves the image in the browser’s Downloads directory.
For command-line-style control inside the browser, open the Web Console and use Firefox’s documented screenshot command with the --fullpage option. Mozilla’s DevTools screenshot documentation also describes options for a filename, delay, device pixel ratio, and CSS selector. Check that documentation for the exact command syntax supported by your Firefox version.

Capture a full webpage in Chrome
- Open the page in Chrome and open DevTools. On Mac, use Command + Option + I for the last-used DevTools panel. Google also documents More Tools > Developer Tools in Chrome’s menu.
- Switch to Device Mode in DevTools.
- Open More options and choose Capture a full size screenshot.
Google distinguishes this from Capture screenshot, which captures only the visible viewport. Device Mode also provides device and viewport controls; the documentation describes a device-frame option when using a device-specific mode. See Google’s Device Mode guide for the capture workflow and its DevTools instructions for Mac shortcuts and menu access.
Command + Shift + P opens Chrome’s Command Menu on Mac. It offers screenshot-related commands, including area capture, but Google’s documentation does not establish it as the full-page capture route; use Device Mode for the full-size workflow.

What to expect from the captured page
A full-page capture is intended to include content beyond the visible viewport, but neither vendor’s cited instructions promise identical results for every page. Dynamic content, embedded frames, and unusually long documents may behave differently; the documentation does not establish universal compatibility for those cases.
- If content loads only as you scroll, check whether it appears in the captured image; the documented steps do not guarantee that every lazy-loaded section will be present.
- If the output is only the visible screen in Chrome, choose Capture a full size screenshot, not Capture screenshot.
- If Firefox DevTools has no screenshot toolbar button, enable it under Settings > Available Toolbox Buttons.
- If a Chrome menu label differs from the instructions, check the current Google documentation for your installed browser version; the available documentation does not establish that labels never change.
Or skip the browser setup
For repeatable captures in code or an automated workflow, ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return an image or PDF. Its cleanup steps accept consent banners and remove 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. An MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and other MCP clients.
