What each tool can capture
Firefox Screenshots
Firefox’s built-in Screenshots feature captures a selected region, an automatically highlighted part of a page, the full page, or the currently visible area. It can save the result as an image in Firefox’s default download folder or copy it to the clipboard. It is part of Firefox, so there is no separate extension purchase for this feature. Mozilla’s Screenshots help article documents these capture options and actions.

FireShot
FireShot’s product information describes full-page, visible-area, and selection capture, plus capture of open tabs and lists of URLs in batch mode. It also describes cropping, resizing, highlighting, blurring, erasing, text annotations, clipboard copy, and export options including PDF, PNG, GIF, JPEG, and BMP. Email, OneNote, upload, and API options are also listed by the vendor. These are vendor-described capabilities, not results of an independent product test. FireShot’s product page and feature comparison describe the available workflows.
Which one fits your workflow?
| Need | Firefox Screenshots | FireShot |
|---|---|---|
| Occasional full-page or visible-area capture | Built in; both are documented capture modes. | Supported according to FireShot’s product page. |
| Capture a region or page part | Custom region and automatically highlighted page part are documented. | Selection capture is documented. |
| Quickly save or share an image | Save an image or copy to clipboard. | Image-format exports and clipboard, email, and other export options are described by the vendor. |
| Annotate or redact | The cited Screenshots help article does not describe a built-in annotation or editing workflow. | Editing and annotation are described; some advanced editor capabilities are tied to Pro and platform/version distinctions. |
| Make a PDF | The Screenshots feature documentation describes image saving and copying, not PDF export. Firefox’s print-to-PDF is a separate browser workflow. | PDF output and advanced PDF options are described by FireShot; check the current tier comparison for availability. |
| Capture multiple tabs or URLs | Not described in the cited Screenshots documentation. | Open-tab and batch capture are described; availability can depend on edition and version. |
| Separate purchase | No separate purchase for Firefox’s built-in feature. | Lite/basic and paid Pro options are listed; check current terms and platform availability. |
Practical choice: use Firefox when capture and a clean image are all you need. FireShot is a better fit to investigate when the task continues into editing, PDF delivery, or repeated multi-page capture. This recommendation compares documented feature sets; neither tool was independently tested here for speed, image quality, or reliability.

How to take a full-page screenshot in Firefox
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Select Save full page to capture the page, or choose the visible area, a custom region, or an automatically highlighted page part.
- Choose to download the image or copy it to the clipboard. A downloaded image goes to Firefox’s default download folder.
If you use Screenshots often, Mozilla also documents adding a Screenshot button to the toolbar. Its keyboard controls allow selection movement and resizing; Mozilla notes that moving the crosshair does not work on Wayland. See Mozilla’s current instructions for the exact interface.
When FireShot Pro may be worth paying for
FireShot separates its Lite/basic offering from Pro. The vendor’s comparison and purchase pages describe Pro capabilities including advanced PDF export, editing and smart annotations on Windows, capture history, batch and automated capture, and offline operation. Feature availability varies by platform and edition, so confirm the live comparison for the specific device and workflow before purchasing.
At access on October 3, 2026, FireShot’s official purchase page displayed $39.95 per year for Pro and $99.95 for a lifetime license; the vendor said the lifetime license permits use on two devices. Prices and entitlements can change. Check the purchase page and the Lite/Pro comparison before buying.

Privacy: what the published statements establish
Firefox
Mozilla says Firefox Screenshots collects interaction events, such as use of Copy or Save full page, but states: “We never collect data such as the URL or details of the image captured.” Mozilla also points to Firefox’s technical and interaction data controls. Interaction telemetry is not the same claim as uploading the screenshot image. Mozilla’s help article provides its explanation and settings references.
FireShot
FireShot says Pro captures are processed locally and that it works offline. Its Lite update page says screenshots are stored locally and sent to an image host only when a user intentionally requests an upload. These are vendor statements; they are not an independent audit of extension code, network traffic, or privacy practices. FireShot’s Pro information and its product page describe these claims.

If your actual need is to capture pages from code or an AI workflow, try ScreenshotNeo first: it is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request returns a screenshot or PDF. The following cURL example saves a WebP screenshot; see the ScreenshotNeo documentation for API options.

FAQ
Can Firefox Screenshots save a screenshot directly to the clipboard?
Yes. Mozilla documents both copying the capture to the clipboard and downloading it as an image.
Does Firefox Screenshots include PDF export?
The cited Screenshots documentation describes image saving and clipboard copying, not PDF export. Printing a page to PDF is a separate Firefox workflow.
Does FireShot Pro work offline?
FireShot says Pro works offline and processes captures locally. That is the vendor’s statement, not an independent privacy or network audit.
