That control comes with responsibility: you must provision and maintain the deployment and test its capacity for your actual stream and audience.

Restream fits a workflow built around sending a live feed to selected destinations through a hosted service. Its plan guidance gives different simultaneous active-destination counts by subscription, so check the current tier and the number of destinations you need active at the same time.
Can Restream stream to YouTube 24/7?
Restream’s Help Center says it does not limit stream duration, but it also warns that the server carrying a stream may undergo maintenance and restart when a stream has run continuously for more than 24 hours. It recommends restarting every 24 hours and says to contact sales about custom pricing if you need more than 24 hours. This is a continuity caveat, not a claim that every stream will restart at the 24-hour mark or a published uptime guarantee. See Restream’s duration guidance.

With Restream, plan for a human or automated restart process if continuous operation matters. With Streaming Engine, a long-running channel is possible, but you are responsible for the server environment, network, monitoring, and recovery design. Wowza’s scaling documentation says capacity depends on hardware, network configuration, stream type, bitrate, and connection types; it recommends load testing rather than relying on a universal server capacity. Does YouTube stop a live stream after 12 hours?
No: the cited Restream guidance says YouTube has no stream-duration limit. The separate issue is replay archiving. Restream says YouTube archives live streams only when they are under 12 hours, so a stream that remains live longer should not be treated as a single complete replay saved by YouTube. If you need an archive, plan a separate recording or divide the broadcast into shorter sessions. Details appear in Restream’s duration help article and its YouTube streaming guidance.

Do not confuse Wowza Streaming Engine with Wowza Video
Wowza Video is a distinct hosted product. Its documented 24×7 channel workflow requires the feature to be enabled for the account and is unavailable on trial accounts. That account condition belongs to Wowza Video’s workflow, not to Streaming Engine.
Wowza Video’s 24×7 setup supports RTMP, SRT, RTSP, WebRTC, file input, and named encoder or camera options, with scheduled or manual starts and stops. The documentation also says charges accrue once a live stream has started even if it is not actively receiving content, and idle streams are automatically stopped after 20 minutes. Check the product-specific 24×7 live-stream instructions before building around that workflow.

Wowza defines an instance as one copy of the server software on a physical or virtual computer. The 10-channel allowance is for concurrent transcoded channels, not all source streams: Wowza’s pricing FAQ says there is no limit on source streams. Infrastructure, bandwidth, CDN, support, and operations labor can add to the license cost. Confirm current prices and terms on Wowza’s pricing page.

Restream’s 2026 Help Center plan guidance lists the following active destination counts. The tier names and limits are vendor guidance and may change; verify the current plan before subscribing.

These figures describe destinations active simultaneously, not merely accounts connected to the service. Restream also says that features, including prerecorded-video streaming, vary by subscription. See its plans and pricing guidance.
Compare total cost, not just the license line
For Engine, estimate server or cloud compute, network egress, CDN delivery, transcoding demand, monitoring, support, and staff time. For Restream, compare the subscription tier with your simultaneous destination count and required features. In either case, estimate the real audience, bitrate, regions, and continuity requirements before committing. Wowza advises load testing because capacity depends on the specific deployment; it does not publish a universal viewer ceiling for an Engine server.
Practical decision checklist
- Use StreamNeo: the source is prerecorded video or a playlist, YouTube is the destination, and you want playback to continue with your computer off.
