Choose the Roku Streaming Stick 4K if Dolby Vision matters for your TV and the services you watch. Roku lists Dolby Vision alongside HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG; Amazon lists HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG for the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, but not Dolby Vision. Choose the Select if you prefer Fire TV and Alexa and do not need Dolby Vision. Both support 4K, but the picture you get depends on compatible content and a compatible television.

The HDR row is the clearest specification-based difference. The other numbers and features describe what each manufacturer publishes; they do not, by themselves, establish which stick is faster or better in everyday use.

Does Dolby Vision make Roku the better choice?
It can, if your television supports Dolby Vision and the shows or films you watch are available in that format. Roku explicitly lists Dolby Vision for the Streaming Stick 4K. Amazon’s published formats for the Fire TV Stick 4K Select are HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, with no Dolby Vision listed. Both sticks list HDR10+ and HLG.
HDR support only helps when the streaming device, TV and particular content support the relevant format. If your TV does not support Dolby Vision, or the content you watch is not offered in it, that feature alone may not change your decision. Likewise, buying a 4K stick does not turn non-4K content or a non-4K TV into 4K.

Which platform and apps suit you better?
Pick Fire TV if you want Amazon’s environment
Amazon describes the Select as offering access to major content providers and Alexa features. Its Fire TV overview also describes Ambient Experience with up to 2,000 photos. Amazon says, “Starting with Fire TV Stick 4K Select, all future Fire TV Sticks will run on Vega.” Those platform details may appeal if you already use Alexa or prefer Fire TV; they do not establish that the Select has a better app selection for every viewer.
Pick Roku if you prefer its channel interface
Roku advertises named streaming apps and free channels through The Roku Channel. Its current product-page claim is “500+ free TV channels with live news and weather, sports coverage, and more.” That is Roku’s stated count, not an independent catalog audit. Before buying either device, check whether the apps you need are available for that model in your country; service catalogs and availability vary by region and can change.

Wi-Fi and everyday performance
Both manufacturers list dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Roku additionally markets a long-range receiver built into the supplied USB power cable. That design is a stated feature, not proof that Roku will deliver better range or streaming performance in your home. The published specifications do not provide a controlled, like-for-like performance comparison, so they cannot settle which stick is faster or handles a weak Wi-Fi signal better.
For either device, streaming quality also depends on your connection, router placement, home network and the service’s requirements. If your TV is far from the router or separated by walls, check your Wi-Fi coverage at the TV before treating a streaming stick as the fix.

Remote controls and setup
Roku specifies a voice remote with buttons for TV power, volume and mute. Amazon’s Select specifications identify a remote microphone button for Alexa control. These published details are not a complete like-for-like remote comparison, so consider which controls you value and confirm the remote included with the exact listing you are buying.
Both connect to a TV over HDMI. Roku says 4K and HDR require a compatible display. For Roku setup, use the supplied USB power cable because the Wi-Fi receiver is built into it. Roku notes that some TV USB ports may not provide enough power and recommends connecting the device to a wall outlet instead. Roku lists an HDMI 2.0b connector for the stick.

What about price?
Price should be a final tie-breaker, not a reason to assume one is a better value at all times. The available launch-price context for the Fire TV Stick 4K Select is dated, while the Roku product page’s displayed price is promotional. Neither figure establishes today’s ordinary selling price. Check current prices, stock and included accessories in your region before ordering.

- Choose Fire TV Stick 4K Select if you prefer Fire TV and Alexa, HDR10+ and HLG meet your needs, and Dolby Vision is not a requirement.
- Check both before choosing if a particular streaming app is essential: verify its availability for the device in your country, then compare the current local price.
