There is no single Fire Stick IR code for every TV. To make a Fire TV Stick remote control your television’s power or volume, use the Fire TV’s Find IR Profile option; if it cannot find a match, search using your TV’s make and model. If you mean controlling Fire TV menus, that is a separate remote-pairing issue.
What “Fire Stick IR code” means
The phrase usually refers to the infrared profile the Alexa Voice Remote uses to control certain functions on a connected TV, such as power and volume. It is not a universal numeric code that works with every television. Amazon staff describe the profile as the setting that lets the remote operate those TV functions (Amazon staff explanation).

That equipment control is distinct from pairing the remote with the Fire TV Stick. Pairing lets you navigate Fire TV; the IR profile is for controlling supported equipment. If your remote cannot navigate menus at all, start with Amazon’s remote-pairing steps, not an IR-code search.

How to find the right IR profile
- Open the TV equipment settings. On Fire TV, go to Settings > Equipment Control > Manage Equipment > TV > Infrared Options > Change IR Profile.
- Choose Find IR Profile. Follow the on-screen prompts to test the available profile. Menu wording can vary by Fire TV model or software version; use the closest matching Equipment Control options if the labels differ.
- Search by make and model if needed. If the built-in search does not find a profile that works, look up your television by its manufacturer and model rather than trying an unrelated brand’s code. This is the fallback suggested by Amazon staff in its IR-profile guidance.
- Test the functions you need. Check power and volume separately. A profile that controls one function may not behave as expected for another; use the Fire TV prompts to try another profile if the controls do not work.
IR profile or HDMI-CEC: which should you use?
IR profiles and HDMI-CEC are different ways to control connected equipment. An IR profile sends infrared commands from the remote; HDMI-CEC sends control commands between compatible devices over the HDMI connection. Amazon documents the Fire TV CEC setting under Settings > Display and Sounds > HDMI CEC Device Control (Amazon’s Fire TV guide).

| Method | What it controls | What it requires | Setup |
|---|---|---|---|
| IR profile | Supported TV functions, including power and volume | A suitable profile for the TV or controlled equipment | Find or change the profile in Equipment Control |
| HDMI-CEC | Control communication between compatible devices over HDMI | CEC support on the connected equipment; CEC may need to be enabled on that device too | Open Settings > Display and Sounds > HDMI CEC Device Control |
Use the IR-profile search first when you are setting up the remote’s TV power or volume buttons. Try CEC if the connected devices support it and you want HDMI-based control.

Confirm whether the problem is pairing or equipment control
If the remote does not navigate Fire TV, follow the pairing guidance for your remote. Amazon recommends checking batteries and distance, holding Home to pair, and restarting or resetting the remote when necessary. If Fire TV navigation works but TV power or volume does not, revisit the TV’s equipment-control profile instead.

Check compatibility before replacing a remote
A replacement remote is not a universal IR-code fix. Compatibility depends on the exact Fire TV device model and remote generation. Check Amazon’s Fire TV remote compatibility list before buying one.
