Shift and Seek (SNS or SnS) is a community-made Among Us ruleset: impostors must shapeshift into the crewmate they plan to kill, while crewmates try to finish their tasks. In the commonly described version, players do not report bodies or call meetings, but exact rules depend on the host.
How does Shift and Seek work?
The central rule is that an impostor should shapeshift into the specific crewmate they intend to eliminate. Crew members try to survive and complete their tasks; impostors try to eliminate the crew. The More Gamemodes project documents these objectives in its Shift and Seek rules.

In the project’s documented implementation, crewmates are engineers and impostors are shapeshifters. That gives crew access to venting and impostors the ability to disguise themselves, though the host’s settings and lobby conventions can change how those abilities work.
What rules are common—and what can vary?
Reports, emergency meetings, and sabotage are disabled in the More Gamemodes implementation. That is a documented version of the ruleset, not a universal rulebook for every lobby. Players also use SNS or SnS for related house-rule variations, and some call it “Shift and Sneak.”

- Crewmate Edition Includes: See description below for complete details
- Life as a Crewmate: Complete all your tasks on the ship to win but watch out for Impostors. Report dead bodies and call emergency meetings to vote the Impostors out. Hope you chose correctly
- Play as an Impostor: Cause chaos, sneak around, and frame innocent bystanders. Winning involves killing off every Crewmate - think you’re a master of sabotage
- Customization: Choose how you want to play. Add more impostors, tasks, decrease visibility and more. All in style as you get to choose your favorite color, outfit, and hat
- Cross-platform: Play with your friends between PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC, Android, and iOS
| Rule | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Wrong-target kill | Some lobbies impose a “miskill” penalty if an impostor kills someone other than the person they shifted into. Community descriptions mention waiting by the body for about 10 seconds, but the duration and use of the penalty vary. |
| Venting | Whether impostors may vent is a host option in the documented mod and may differ by lobby. |
| Sabotage | The documented mod rules disable sabotage. Some community lobbies allow limited sabotage, such as communications, so ask the host. |
| Task protection | Some hosts prohibit killing during certain tasks; this is a house rule, not a universal rule. |
| Reports and meetings | The documented mod disables reports and emergency meetings. Confirm before play, since lobby rules may differ. |
What should you ask before joining?
Because Shift and Seek is a community ruleset, clarify the house rules before the round starts. This prevents an ordinary action—such as reporting a body—from disrupting a lobby that expects different play.
- Does a wrong-target kill have a penalty? If so, what is it and how long does it last?
- May impostors vent?
- Is any sabotage allowed?
- Are impostors allowed to kill during tasks, or are some tasks protected?
- Are body reports and emergency meetings disabled?
Is Shift and Seek an official Among Us mode?
Shift and Seek is described in the sources as a community-created ruleset, rather than a single official mode with one fixed set of rules. The More Gamemodes project supplies one modded implementation; player accounts show that hosts may adapt the rules.

Playing the modded version
The More Gamemodes repository describes a mod that adds game modes and roles and says only the host needs the mod. Its README lists Among Us version 17.0.0, which is a repository-specific compatibility note—not confirmation that the mod works with every current game build or platform. Check the project documentation for compatibility before installing or joining a modded lobby.
