Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThere is no universal winner between Verizon Fios and Spectrum: first check which service is sold at your exact address, then compare upload speeds and the full monthly cost. Fios has the clearer advantage for upload-heavy work on the cited plans, while Spectrum’s displayed first-year prices span several download tiers. Both advertise no data caps and no annual commitment.
Start with availability at your address
Fios is available in parts of the Mid-Atlantic and New England, including New York City, Philadelphia, and Boston. Spectrum directs customers to enter an address to see available plans. Coverage can vary by street or building, so check each provider’s availability tool for the specific home before comparing prices or speeds.

Verizon describes Fios as a 100% fiber-optic network. Verizon characterizes standard Spectrum service as hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC), while Spectrum also markets fiber service in some settings. The product and network available at a particular address matter; do not assume every Spectrum customer receives the same technology or upload capability.

Download speed affects activities such as streaming and downloading files. Upload speed matters when sending large files, backing up photos to the cloud, livestreaming, or joining video calls. The listed speeds are provider claims, not results from an independent, controlled head-to-head test.

| Service or tier | Download | Upload | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fios 300 | Up to 300 Mbps | Up to 300 Mbps | Verizon’s advertised symmetric tier. |
| Fios 500 | Up to 500 Mbps | Up to 500 Mbps | Verizon’s advertised symmetric tier. |
| Fios 1 Gig | 750–940 Mbps average wired | 750–880 Mbps average wired | Verizon’s stated average wired speed ranges; not guaranteed Wi-Fi speeds. |
| Standard Spectrum service | Gigabit downloads are listed in Verizon’s comparison | Typically up to 35 Mbps, according to Verizon | This upload figure is Verizon’s characterization of Spectrum standard service, not an independent measurement. Market and product availability may differ. |
For households that routinely send large files or rely on cloud backups, Fios’s cited symmetric lower tiers and near-symmetric average wired 1 Gig range are a meaningful paper advantage. If the household mainly streams and downloads, upload may be less decisive—but simultaneous calls, gaming, and backups can make it noticeable.
Verizon cautions that device limits, simultaneous users, and network conditions affect results. Wi-Fi also depends on the router’s location, home layout, interference, and client devices. A wired test can help distinguish an internet-service issue from a Wi-Fi limitation.

What do the plans cost?
Spectrum’s plan page displayed the following internet-only first-year prices in October 2026. These are page-displayed offers, not guaranteed rates for every address. The 2 Gig tier is listed only in select areas.
| Spectrum tier | Displayed first-year price | Displayed prior or regular price |
|---|---|---|
| Internet 100 | $30/month | Not stated on the cited page. |
| Internet 500 | $40/month | $50/month. |
| Internet 1 Gig | $60/month | $70/month. |
| Internet 2 Gig | $80/month | $90/month; select areas only. |
Before choosing based on the first-year figure, check the rate after the introductory year, whether discounts depend on a bundle, and the final checkout total. Spectrum also displays bundles with two-year price guarantees, but those include mobile service and should not be compared directly with internet-only prices.

Verizon’s page lists Fios 300, 500, 1 Gig, and 2 Gig options, with price-lock terms that vary by plan. Its guarantee applies to the then-current base monthly rate and excludes setup and additional equipment charges, discounts and promotions, plan perks, and third-party services. Verizon says a $99 setup charge may apply. Because promotional prices and eligibility can change, verify the current address-specific offer and terms rather than treating a promotion as a standing rate.
Include Wi-Fi and setup charges in the comparison
Verizon says a router is included at no additional cost on the cited Fios offerings. Spectrum lists Advanced WiFi at $10 per month for Internet 100 and Internet 500, included with Internet 1 Gig, and Invincible WiFi included with Internet 2 Gig. Confirm what the local offer includes and whether the household needs enhanced whole-home coverage.

Both providers advertise no data caps and no annual commitment. Those statements do not settle every charge or order term: review the complete checkout total, including any setup charge, equipment add-ons, discounts, and applicable conditions.
Which speed is enough for your household?
Spectrum’s plan FAQ offers rough household guidance, based on household size and device counts. It is a provider rule of thumb rather than a universal requirement: the number of people using the connection at the same time and what they are doing matter more than a device count alone.
| Spectrum’s general guidance | Household description |
|---|---|
| 100–300 Mbps | Single or small household with 1–7 devices. |
| 300–500 Mbps | Small-to-medium household with 8–14 devices. |
| 500 Mbps–1 Gig | Large household with 14 or more devices. |
Use those ranges as a starting point, then consider whether multiple people stream, game, attend video calls, or download large files at once. A household with heavy upload activity should compare upload rates, not just select the plan with the largest download number.
How to make a fair address-level comparison
- Check both providers at the service address. Record the plans and technology actually offered for the home, including whether Spectrum’s offer is standard service or a fiber product.
- Compare the same kind of speed figure. Separate advertised maximums from Verizon’s average wired Fios 1 Gig ranges, and note the upload rate as well as download.
- Calculate the ongoing monthly cost. Include the post-promotion rate, Wi-Fi charges, setup fees, discounts, and bundle requirements. Keep mobile-inclusive bundle prices separate from internet-only rates.
- Match the plan to actual use. Account for simultaneous users and upload-heavy tasks, not just the number of devices in the home.
- Test a wired connection if performance disappoints. Connect a capable device to the router with Ethernet, pause other heavy network activity, and run a speed test. Compare the result with the provider’s stated wired performance where available; Wi-Fi results can be lower for reasons inside the home.
Which should you choose?
- Favor Fios if it is available and upload capacity is important for your work or household, or if its current all-in price and included router compare well at your address.
- Favor Spectrum if it is available with a plan and total cost that better fit your budget and download needs, after checking the introductory-period end date and Wi-Fi charges.
- Keep comparing if one provider’s offer depends on a bundle you do not want, the technology or upload rate is unclear, or the checkout total changes the apparent price advantage.
Verizon’s claims about Spectrum’s typical upload limits are provider-authored comparisons, not independently verified measurements. Treat them as a reason to confirm the exact product and upload rate offered locally, rather than as proof that every Spectrum connection performs identically.
