Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To find vulnerabilities before attackers exploit them, first make an inventory of the systems and applications you manage, then scan those assets for known weaknesses, prioritize findings by exploit evidence and business impact, and fix or mitigate them. A scan is a starting point—not proof that your systems are free of vulnerabilities.
Start by identifying what you need to protect
You cannot choose useful scans until you know which assets are yours to assess. List the devices, servers, operating systems, business applications, internet-facing services, cloud resources, and websites your organization uses. Include systems managed by outside providers, and identify who is responsible for each one.

Keep the inventory current as equipment, software, and services are added, changed, or retired. An overlooked internet-facing service or an application nobody owns can remain exposed even when the rest of the environment is regularly checked.
Use scans to find known weaknesses, not to certify security
Vulnerability scanning checks systems or web applications for known weaknesses. What it can assess depends on the tool, configuration, access, and assets included. A scan that covers a public website, for example, does not automatically assess internal devices or every cloud service.
#1 Best Overall
- Compact and Efficient Design: The FortiGate 40F is designed for small to mid-sized businesses and enterprise branch offices, featuring a compact, fanless desktop form factor that ensures quiet operation and minimizes space usage.
- Robust Connectivity Options: Equipped with 5 GE RJ45 ports, including 1 WAN port and 4 internal ports, this model provides essential connectivity and flexibility for various network configurations in a small-scale environment.
- High-Performance Security: Offers up to 1 Gbps IPS throughput and 600 Mbps threat protection throughput, using Fortinet’s purpose-built security processor technology to deliver industry-leading performance and protection for SSL encrypted traffic.
- Advanced Threat Protection: Integrated with Fortinet’s AI-powered FortiGuard Labs, the FortiGate 40F offers comprehensive cybersecurity, identifying and mitigating both known and unknown threats to maintain robust security across your network.
- Simplified Management and Deployment: Features a user-friendly management console that provides comprehensive network automation and visibility, coupled with Zero Touch Integration with Fortinet’s Security Fabric for easy deployment.
Scanning and remediation are separate tasks: a result identifies something to investigate, not a completed fix. Validate that a finding applies to the asset and version reported, then decide what action is appropriate. NIST’s IR 8011-4 describes software vulnerability management as part of security-control assessment; it does not make a scan proof that all weaknesses or attack paths have been found.
Prioritize findings using exploit evidence and business impact
Do not treat every scan result as equally urgent. Check whether a vulnerability is known to be exploited, whether the affected system is exposed, and how important it is to your operations. These considerations inform urgency; they do not create a universal priority score.

- OPTIMIZED FOR MEDIUM-SIZED BUSINESSES: Tailored for businesses needing robust security without the infrastructure of larger enterprises.
- RELIABLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT: FortiCare Premium ensures high-quality support and service continuity.
- EFFECTIVE PROTECTION: Employs advanced filtering technologies to safeguard against sophisticated threats.
CISA describes its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) Catalog as an authoritative source for vulnerabilities exploited in the wild and recommends using it as an input to vulnerability-management prioritization. Check the live catalog because its contents can change. KEV inclusion is a strong signal to investigate promptly, while absence from the catalog does not establish that a finding is harmless.
Turn scan results into corrective action
- Confirm the affected asset. Check the device or application, installed version, and whether the reported weakness applies in your configuration.
- Consult the vendor’s advisory. Use the vendor’s guidance to determine whether a supported update or mitigation is available and appropriate for your environment.
- Apply the fix or mitigation. Plan changes to reduce disruption, and record any exception, including why the issue remains open and who owns the next decision.
- Verify the outcome. Rescan the affected asset or use another suitable check to confirm that the corrective action addressed the finding. Update your inventory and remediation record.
CISA’s KEV guidance points organizations toward vendor mitigations and applicable guidance; if no mitigation is available, it advises discontinuing use of the product. See the catalog guidance for the applicable direction.

- 【Up to 1100 Mbps VPN Speed 】 Hardware-accelerated WireGuard and OpenVPN-DCO deliver up to 1100 Mbps VPN throughput, over 3× faster than Brume 2 for smooth remote access and file transfers.
- 【Three 2.5G Ports & Multi-WAN】Tri-port 2.5GbE design with flexible WAN LAN configuration supports multi-gigabit wired setups, dual-ISP Multi-WAN and failover to keep home and SOHO networks online.
- 【Stealth VPN Obfuscation】VPN obfuscation disguises VPN traffic as regular HTTPS, helping you evade blocking, bypass restrictive networks and maintain stable, private connections.
- 【DPI protection】Deep Packet Inspection with visual dashboards blocks adult/gambling/malicious sites, while SQM and QoS prioritize gaming, calls, and video when bandwidth is tight
- 【OpenWrt & USB 3.0 Expansion】OpenWrt with 1GB DDR4 and 8GB eMMC lets you install plugins and build VPN, ad-blocking or NAS, while USB 3.0 Type‑C connects high-speed storage or 4G/5G dongles
Check CISA’s no-cost scanning services
CISA lists Cyber Hygiene Services for small and medium-sized businesses, including no-cost vulnerability scanning and web application scanning. Review the live Small and Medium-Sized Business Resources page to confirm current eligibility, availability, and service details. Treat these services as one possible part of your coverage, not as a substitute for identifying all the assets you manage or addressing findings.
Make scanning part of an ongoing security process
Schedule scans regularly and after significant changes, such as deploying a new internet-facing service or updating an important application. Assign an owner to review results, track fixes and exceptions, and connect vulnerability handling to patching and incident response. CISA’s small-business resources also include incident-response guidance and other security resources.
Scanning can help reveal known weaknesses, but it cannot guarantee that every weakness or attack path has been found. Its value comes from a repeatable cycle: maintain asset awareness, assess relevant systems, prioritize findings, take corrective action, and verify the result.
